I think I see An Extremely Goofy Movie as more of a standalone sequel as apposed to one that is meant to take place where the original film left off.

I think the plot would have been more interesting if Goofy and Max kept their strong relationship at the beginning, and it even helps Max dominate in the X Games. Bradley sees this, and in a false attempt to make friends with his father, convinces him to join his team to throw Max off his game. Maybe even have Goofy find out he's actually secretly good at sports in the process.
Not only would it give Max an interesting dilemma of not being outshined by his father, but it would be an interesting test of their bond.

When I was a kid, I loved this movie. Looking back at it a decade later......I still think its a good movie. To me, the good triumphs over the bad.
What I don't like: How its pretty much the same movie as the first, plus everything the first film worked for at the end seemed to disappear, scenes tend to drag on and on like the cafe scene, and some montages. I also personally think that Max is too damn mean in this movie, while he does realize his mistake its too late, the scene where he pretty much disowns Goofy as his father is actually unconformable to watch. Pauly Shore is incredibly annoying and his character literally does NOTHING, and its pretty much every cliche sports movie ever made.
What I do like: The animation, its very energetic and surprisingly good for a direct to video sequel, plus it knew when to give the film time to breathe, along with that the scene where Goofy is in Max's abandoned room is spot on. The music is fantastic and fits the tone perfectly, The disco scene while a Big Lipped Alligator Moment is still fun to watch. The villain is lot of fun and I enjoy seeing him on screen, I really love Goofy and The Love interest's chemistry and her character. And as cliche as the sports scenes are, they're actually very creative and entertaining. But I think my favorite part is the fact that it focus on Goofy, the first one pretty much focused on Max, this one is pretty much Goofy.
So overall, its got problems, but i still think its a good movie.

How was the disco scene a Big Lipped Alligator Moment? It didn't come out of nowhere. It also began the romance between Goofy and Marple.

I agree with you 100%. These movies have made Goofy one of my favorite Disney characters and had strengthen my love for disco music. By the way that scene with Goofy alone in Max's room after he's left for college; yeah I believe that to be one of the saddest Disney movie moments cause it's just so heart wrenching, depressed yet relatable. Oh and they just made the college high school; there were no mature adults on that campus.

I kind of agree with this review I missed seeing Roxanne and I also hated the fact that they returned to square one between Goofy and Max. On the upside I love how Goofy finally got a love interest. Thank you for this review.

Sylvia was a good original character who I wished appeared more in the movie and wished there was a 3rd film focused on Goofy and his new lady and maybe having a kid!

Eh, I liked this movie but I do prefer the original for certain reasons. Like you mentioned that movie was about the relationship between Max and Goofy and that's one of it's strongest points of the first movie. So for it to go back to square one it's very disappointing honestly. Also yeah, what did happen to Roxane? I know the first movie wasn't focusing specifically on that but the chemistry between her and Max I feel was also a strong point of the first movie.
And for me one of the more relatable and believable relationships even now in a Disney Movie. (Not to dis other Disney movies but personally Roxane and Max had a more believable relationship to me as it reminds me of now since i'm in highschool.) Though yeah on it's own this movie is good but i'll definitely prefer the 1st movie any day over the sequel. But I will give it this, at least it's better than most Toon Disney made sequels from Disney. And it has lots of effort in there I would say.

This is just an opinion but to answer what I think happened to Roxanne, that relationship was in High School right. Her and Max simply went to different Colleges

I hate to say it, but you are totally right about this film, bit on the other hand, I preferred the first film more anyhow!

I used to think the Max character was cool and I understood him more as a child but looking at it now he comes off as kind of a prick, shitting all over his dad and then when he needs him most he's ready to make nice.

What I didn't like is how people keep saying only Max is in the wrong in this movie. As much is Max was being a jerk in here goofy was not that much good either we're supposed to sympathize with him just trying to get close with his son but hes not realizing that he didn't come school to be with max he came to get his diploma

Sylvia did not become Goofy’s official love interest, nor was she brought into the main Mickey Mouse universe. Then again, Goofy not having an official girlfriend has always been part of what made him stand out from Mickey and Donald.

it's not a bad movie, it just doesn't seem as good as the the one it had to follow up. if you watch this one without any knowledge of the first (well you would be a little confused of course ) you would probably like it more, but hey that's my opinion

I know this video was 10 years ago at the time of my comment but you already lost me in the first 2 mins. Strong disagreement I have is your thought of this movie as a rehash for the first. Yes, the characters have the similar struggles from the first movie, dad being too doting and desiring to be closer to his son, and a son who is being distant and to himself. This is not true, it's a much bigger plot than that and with a much bigger premise. Max is moving onto college and Goofy, like most parents, despite being proud, is very emotional about it. In his emotional state after Max leaves, Goofy's head is in the clouds and he causes an accident to get him fired and needs to go back to college for a new job. Here Goofy is somewhat of an antagonist as he still treats his adult son like a child and keeps getting in his son's way as to why he is in college. Yes, like most parents, he still wants to be part of his son's life, but this movie was more about him learning to let his son grow up and for Goofy himself to finally have his own life with finishing college and meeting a romantic interest of his own, to serve as his purpose of a new life while his son is moving on.
If you took the time to notice, both movies had a premise where you thought this person is the main character but ends up being the opposite. A Goofy Movie was about Goofy wanting to take Max on a trip, you think Goofy is the main character, but instead, it is Max. In Extremely Goofy Movie, Max is going to college, but the movie is about Goofy instead. It's very interesting!

I remember that's another problem people had with the sequel is that Roxanne is nowhere to be seen and because her and Max were just too perfect to be separated.

To be honest, I disliked the first Goofy Movie quite a bit so I will save myself the pain of viewing a much worse sequel.
