even though one of eric's marshalls was acting up, he handled the situation professionally and delivered a great performance. i know a bunch of guitar players that would have fallen apart had they been placed in that situation. excellent video and an awesome song!
3:35 amp buzzes, he lookes more frustrated than pissed. He switches a foot pedal and launches into a fantastic improvised solo like the professional virtuoso that he is. Truly the greatest!
I think most of Eric's soul is not in the improvisations, but in the music itself.. Nobody else can make such beautiful compositions like manhattan, srv, venus isle, etc... I think his soul is exactly in the COMPOSITION, not in the improvisation. This song for example, its SO COOL!!! Its so groovy, so fun to hear.. thats what I like about him.
si el es un sabio en cuanto a teoria aplicada a la practica concierne, en cada concierto le ahace un buen arreglo a todas sus canciones y son tan creativos en composicion por encima de cualquiera eso es un buen jazzista arriba johnson wooo
That is partially because the setup he used for this show consisted of 50 watt Marshall heads and Fender Deluxe Reverbs... Before and after ALC he's been using 100 watt Marshalls and much higher powered Twin Reverbs. The reason he used the lower-power amps because he was dealing with his tinnitus (I believe)...
Pretty certain that breakup is deliberate - he has it in the intro to Venus Isle, and he'd never leave anything unintentional, especially of that nature in a record.
if u take a look between 3'05 and 3'10 u'll c that the problem starts there, when he changes the pedal - theres some strange noise there. when he comes back to that same pedal that was making that strange noise, the real BIG problem shows up. 2 c what im talking about, u can check the first time(3'05 and 3'10): EJ stops looking at the guitar and looks at the pedals like "Whaz that?!!"
From what I can tell, the breakup noise is actually not his amp, nor is it intentional. I'm fairly certain it's the cord connecting the guitar to the wireless transmitter. Notice how slappy and thin his clean tone is - much weaker than it usually is - and how it seems to break up most when he moves around.
Yeah, and EVH was Peavey before that. He (EVH) should stick with what brought him to the party in the first place, a Marshall 100W and stomp box. Listen to VH1, 2, Women & Children First and Fair Warning. Sounds killer compared to the processed tone he seems to prefer now.
He plays at much lower volumes now. Only idiots blow their ears out with volume. Tinnitus is irreversible. Ask Paul Gilbert, who has lost most of his hearing. It's so bad that he can't even wear a hearing aid.
Where is the line between soul and technique? Out of all the "guitar gods" EJ is probably the only one that can pull off playing a blues song without making me cringe. His tone alone has more soul than a lot of other players. Just because he's not playing Mississippi blues doesn't mean he has no soul.

Man---every 50 years a player like Eric comes along. Whata gifted virtuoso player he is.
Bill Maddox you will be missed

Eric tiene muchísimo feeling, y lo demuestra en su vibrato, en sus combibaciones de escalas de blues, jazz y rock o en su sonido lleno y sutil
havent listened to this guy in months i missed it
I loved his tone at the 1988 Austin performance
damn that clean is so interesting!
so bright, yet so deep
crisp, yet so round
JEALOUS
@0:57 I love how he EXPLODES into the song !
damn so so good. head just starts bopping automatically. so much musicality in EJ's playing

awesome performancel shame that his amp is broke/breaking.
yeah that was a reply to another commenet i'm not sure why its just hanging around ramdomly at the top here. Urg!
This tune is so bitchin'......I even enjoy the brief equipment failure at 3:37
doesnt Eric use Dumble amps?
What is the name of this music?
First off, thats one of the Marshall's thats acting up - not the Fender... and second, the EVH brand is made by Fender

im sorry i dont speak spanish but i do learn french in school but r u saying that he's better than vai and satriani
Not that Eric needs to do two hand tapping, but i always wonder what kind of stuff he would do if he really got into that aspect of playing...
i see

EVH cant touch EJ's tone.......
