Initially, director Taylor Hackford was going to choose a white actor yet visits to military bases changed his mind. He realized there were more Black and Brown drill sergeants than he realized. Smart move considering the GREAT Louis Gossett Jr. stole the show in his scenes in An Officer and a Gentleman. ❤
If his role in Dreamgirls was worthy of an award, his next role shouldn’t have mattered. It wasn’t heavily controversial but in their opinion just a “bad movie.” He delivered Jimmy Early so give him his moment for it, it wasn’t about Norbit. He, along with Spike Lee and Robert Townsend helped to pave the way for a new waive of black movies made by black directors in the 90's to get financing and actually put out content that showed that the black stories and the dollar also had power. He employed many black directors, writers, producers and actors that people never talk about. Eddie has done a lot for the black community in Hollywood that has gone forgotten. Thank you for bringing his love for his black community to light.

Eddie Murphy has the greatest acting range of any actor I have seen. From slapstick to action to drama, some of his movies had better scripts than others but his work was always outstanding.

all these actors know the deal. i think they doing now for the art and we should just find ways to let them know we love them and their work. i saw adam sandler getting a lifetime achievement award for something. His heart was so full. He lived for the art , his family and his friends. thats how i want to be at my end. having a full heart and around my friends.

Eddie Murphy has the greatest acting range of any actor I have seen. From slapstick to action to drama, some of his movies had better scripts than others but his work was always outstanding.
