I had a similar issue, had excessive blow by, oil was coming out of my charge pipe. Replaced valve cover, added catch can and VTT crankcase breather. Haven’t had an issue since. Have maybe a cap of oil in catch can over 4000 miles
I had the same issue. Engine Now currently getting my engine rebuilt by Ghassan. I looked long and far on instructions for changing the valve cover before Finding out i needed to rebuild. Glad to see you made the video though man!
Oh boy…
Why did you need to rebuild
Was on a long road trip, and car started smoking. Took it in and the tech told me the valve cover failed but appeared to be fine now because they couldn't recreate the problem. Finished my trip with plans to dig deeper when I finally got to my new place. Turns out the diaphragm on the top of the valve cover cracked which is why it was smoking intermittently. The engine started billowing smoke about 10 miles from my new place. Failed compression test on cylinder 1. Waiting for the full inspection report from ghassan should hear back this week.
@@BumpytheBench hello mate, I hope your back on the road. Just wondered if you figured out why you were down on compression in cylinder 1?. I take it your not stock
@@anthonyh958 turns out it was a piston that had cracked. Not sure exactly what had caused it. I was running a Bootmod3 stage 2 OTS tune.
Excellent! First video on valve cover replacement. I like it
Hi mate, great video as always. I have a similar issue, let me explain. My car is a f32 440ix with around 45k miles (it is USA model, but I am in Europe). I purchased it in July, it was bone stock. I had to add 1 liter of oil in every 3000kms (2000miles). Later went to stage 1, no extra oil combustion. 1 week ago the car got stage 2+ (catted dp, dorch stage1) with costum tune. After around 500 miles I had misfire in cylinder six (at very light acceleration) and oil dropped to minimum. We checked the plugs, the 6th was oily as hell, we saw oil on the 6th piston, in the charge and intake pipe (at the throttle body as well). No big smoke, just a little when it is cold (oil). PCV diaphragm is unharmed. Since we cleaned the plug, everything feels perfect again. I guess we should first replace the valve cover and install a cath can, before taking off the engine. What is your advice? Thank you! Oliver
Great video. I have b46/b48 engine. Similar to B58, but 4 cylinder. Where is bank 1 camshaft position sensor located in B46/B48 engine. Similar to B58 near oil fill cap?
Hello m’y friend i have this problèm with my m140i , you are solution your problèm change the Cover ?
Great video my man!
So essentially Vader solutions pcv delete doesn’t work as intended? Like how did it build access crank pressure if the pcv delete is consistently releasing pressure?
That’s what we don’t understand. We tried literally everything to avoid having to replace the valve cover and things only got better after we replaced it
Hey LJ I have a 2016 340i I recently had my pcv fail i bought the Ross racing pcv VTA kit and have been running it but I still get white smoke out my exhaust like crazy on start up and out the VTA hose I also have oil on my spark plugs I haven’t done a compression or leak down test but the car runs really strong so I don’t think it’s engine related I also checked the exhaust side of my turbo and there was no oil do you think the problem is I need to replace my valve cover like maybe the pcv on the inside is failing or it’s internally cracked or leaking I haven’t seen any oil on the outside of the valve cover but yeah if you have any questions to help clarify or pictures/videos I can send you everything I know I’m just a random guy but it would mean a lot if you had any input on what’s going on thanks
Just DM me.
@@NoClutchGarage ok send on Instagram 👍🏻
Far fetched, but did you find a solution? I am currently having the exact same issue. Diaphragm was all good and replaced with a vta kit and still tons of oil in turbo inlet and lots of smoke
replace the valve cover the internal part of the pcv is stuck open. it fixed the problem instantly.@@yoitsbz
So you ended up plugging the head ports in the valve cover, right? Seems that might be a solution for b58 guys who keep popping Valve covers
Yes plugging the head ports helps, but I think opening up the crankcase ventilation is the right move.
Hey LJ did you replace the injector seals ? and did you need any special tools to reinstall them?
Did not need to replace the seals but there is a special tool for both the seals and to remove and reinstall the injectors
I have a Supra with this engine. Changing the oil yesterday I was pulling the engine cover off and lifted too hard (but not much) on the engine cover and the torqued the rear left engine cover mounting boss in front of the fuel pump (from the view of standing in front of the car) in it cracked at the base of the valve cover. It didn’t take the boss off completely but the boss now bends back and I can see there is a hole or opening when the boss bends. My question is, could you tell me if that hole opens up to the engine or is there something else under the engine cover that would seal off that area of the boss so engine oil couldn’t get directly out. It looks like from your video it would open up to the valve train, but it’s hard to tell from the video.
Thanks for any help you can give.
If you put a hole on the valve cover you need to replace it.
So do you think your PCV system in the valve cover was damaged from high boost and this only would happen with a upgraded turbo kit? Wonder if a PCV delete before turbo upgrade would prevent the valve cover damage.
Sorry for all the questions just curious as my next upgrade would be turbo.
Thanks and great content!
The PCV system is built into the valve cover
@@NoClutchGarage right. So the “Ross Racing B58 Billet PCV Delete” really isn’t a delete?
It is a delete
Those o2 sensors brackets always brake, and why don't you transfered the pcv solution
Not necessary
Since the N54 BMW's turbo straight sixes haven't been saved from failing
Eh B58 is very reliable… I just like to push mine to their limits
@@NoClutchGarage my N55 has 111k miles and I'm still on all the original factory gaskets and NO leaks anywhere. Yep you read that, 111k miles
I just watched it till he was disconnecting the battery. It shows he is not really professional!! Every good mechanic knows you have to disconnect the negative side , this is basics. Don’t waste your time to watch his stupid clip.
I’m not a professional and could give two shits, most of the time I don’t disconnect the battery unless I’m playing with the ECU. If you have a “proper” way of disconnecting the battery just do it your way. You still got the point.
Yeah cuz that totally makes all the other information useless……great video man! Surprised you even replied to this dumb comment
