- VALVᴱ, let's hope Half-Life 3 will be just as good...
Info about the G4 video edit:
Originally there was a 4 minute preview of the show which included a more detailed documentary about the Half-Life 2 theft. The final version didn't include the detailed theft, so i edited it into this video - เกม
The Black Mesa incident started with a computer system behaving weirdly too. If I was working at valve and my computer started fucking up I'd go grab a crowbar.
I´m going to buy one of those things maybe it could help me save the world

"You don't have to worry about how long it's gonna take, you don't have to worry about how much money you're going to spend, the only thing you have to worry about is making it the best game of all time"
-Gabe Newell
And they're dead serious about it when it comes to Half-Life 3
Looks like the same is happening for the rumored HLVR
Alyx it's the game.

"For the people at Valve software the game is worth the wait."
My god SWEG! You played Half-Life as well?
Bully player play half life
Man, back when g4 was actually a gaming network.
or just a network in general
At the time of my writing G4 still existed.
so you're in the past right now?
Yep im a time traveller!
Yeah G4 was awsome. Giving you the latest news for the next hyped game. etc.
I thank you for giving me that "ᴱ" in the description, genuinely.
O.o
For those who don't know, this episode of Icons was created in early 2005.
It's pretty inspiring to hear that when some jackass steals your shit, it's the gaming community as a whole that does what the FBI can't.
I'll wait forever for HL3. When you guys come out with something, I know without a shadow of a doubt that it'll be quality.
the problem of HL fans is that no matter how good half life 3 is...they're going to be dissapointed
Cc Cro What do you mean? HL fans are always proud of the next game, sure Episode 1 sucked and ppisode 2 was poor, but that's because VALVe is under the pressure of the number 3
Ricochet Invader 2
ep 1 and 2 were bad? I wasn't aware of that
What I meant was that they will excpect too much of hl3 and because of that no matter hoq good it will/would be,they would be disapointet
Cc Cro Episode 1 was ok
ok, but sufferable
Episode 2 was my 4th favorite Half-Life
1, being HL1
2. Being HL2
3. being HL OP4
TetchyEquation
you weird. VALVE MASTER RACE
Some punk stole hl2 and put it on the net... if i had to guess, i'd say valve is fearing the same thing could happen. So they are very secretive about half life 2 ep 3 or hl3. They're likely to release no news about it until the last development days.
yea or there making it the best fps of them all
I really hope you are right :)
iknow im right
Bounty Koopa You definitely are. There's no way they would just give up on the Half Life series.
no doubt they cant kill a main character and leave it like that
gabe could go to e3 and just say half life 3 is coming and walk off AND IT WOULD BE THE BIGGEST THING EVER
the way this is edited could only be done in the early 2000s
11:03
YOU HEAR THAT EA?! LISTEN TO THIS GUY EA!! LISTEN TO HIM!!!
EA are punks
@@electric9049 They were publisher of McGee's Alice (2000), they haven't been dumb punks all the time///
Andrew Wilson need to learn for gabe newell
And the wait for Half-Life 3 continues...
Now I understand the meaning of the title, you wait your half life for a new game
And still waiting.
Aaand it's here, and it's amazing.
Still waiting.
If its the final game, im ok with it
It would be the perfect trilogy of a game
Not to end in the brutal hands of your FBI was his mercy.
A German police officer told Gembe how lucky he was to get arrested in Germany, I don't even want to imagine what the FBI would have done to him.
This was one phenomenal documentary-types that really gave us that ideal insight to the beginnings of half-life and valve softwares. The team all had profound and detailed vision-statements to help us truly depict the genesis of it all.
I remember watching this back in 2005 when I was a teen. The nostalgia.
Are you an old man in your thirties?

TV producers with stupid puns. Sometimes I hate the industry I work in.
I'd never never even heard of Half-life before i caught this one morning on G4, and i was obsessed. I simply had to play this game. But i only had a Mac and a 360. A few months later The Orange Box came out, Pretty much immediately, Half-life/Portal became my favorite video game series ever. Thanks for sharing this.
poor valve, they wanted to make a good game and geeks start fucking shit up! makes me want a future job to hack hackers and steal THEIR shit to give them what they deserve.
PARADOX so you want to become a hacker and hack other hackers and it seems you hate them so WHY do you want to become a hacker. youre desire for hacking will grow so you might hack valve games and later on you will look at this comment and say, what have i done
i know this because i was a hacker and a i hacked sega games
jk im a paradox expert
yea the whole hacking thing was bad i think the hacker just was a big fan of the game and wanted to make sorta a demo type thing or that's just me feeling sorry for the guy but anyways yea Valve had it hard
Chris Snow
dude its the interwebs
My dad Looks like fukking Gabe
Been playing Half-live once a year since Beta. Never gets old.
You played the beta builds of Half-Life from 1998/1997?
my childhood was beautiful. thank you valve.
If G4 showed stuff like this instead of ENDLESS re-runs of cops, they would still be around.
I wish Valve and other gaming companies still cared this much about their games. Now we have to settle for broken games, day1 patches, bugs that take months and months to get fixed and cheaters in pretty much all the major games. It's sad :(
Valve care for their games, they never arrive broken(But late (And im fine with that(Rather have a late game, than brogen game))), but I do see a trend for ubistoft... And EA making games that are broken!
Let's hope based Nomura's team at SE delivers with FF15
And who’s fucking fault is this? It’s the people.
HALF-LIFE 2 IS THE BEST GAME EVER MADE!!!!
For being nearly ten years old, it certainly stands head and shoulders above most other shooters these days. I just beat it recently for the first time and thought it was way better than Bioshock Infinite.
Nah HL2DM is :)
@Anthony Galdieri. All HAIL THE MIGHTY HALF-LIFE GAMES!!!!!
FUCK CALL OF DUTY STEAM IS DA BEST
Bounty Koopa
But CoD is on Steam.
the thought of HL3 never being made still keeps me up at night
Gaben was right. Ten years later, Valve is still on top of the world
Hello boys Half Life Alyx is s thing we back!
Yea Boi
22:18 10 years from now, people are still wondering WHERE THE FUCK IS HALF LIFE 3???
Almost 19 years later now and we're still waiting
Why the hell is this documentary presented with such a dark tone? Low light interviews, the ominous background ambiance... it dissonates completely with what they're talking about.
I cant even begin to say how much I miss TechTv
To be fair Gabe, the leak files are very fun to play, and as a source modder who's a self-taught professional with the engine; it's amazing to look at how the engine evolved over time.
And even though they're buggy, it's a great experience being able to see how it evolved, looking at the old NPC's and such.
Wow, Michael Moore is great at making games!
"In creating the character of Gordon Freeman, we all agreed it should be me" - Marc
LOL he looks just like Gordon
RIP old steam skin...why tf did they remove the option from using it in the current steam version? im guessing the whole "big picture" shit wouldn't work with it.
Nah it was pretty good, look at it now xD
I'm so glad that there is Valve in this world ;)
happy 10 yr birthday, hl2
Amen to that .
It must have been so exciting to have been part of the development team
Now it makes sense why gabe is not mentioning the release of half life 3 and it makes sense why valve is loyal to their customers.
i understand that whole hacking situation, but does it really take almost or more than 10 years to make HL3? or at least HL2 Ep.3?
thelivingtwicane hopefully we get it soon, im just so excited & cant wait for it! :D
***** Gaben is 51 years old.Wait for 2015.He will be 53 years old in 2015.
Arif Eren wait a minute... theres a 3 in 53... omg then this means...
Right you are!
3:25 original game art looks like Portal!! Back in 1996 it was first born cool!
Prospero was very different from Portal, from what we know it was actually more similar to how steam worked
This is the best interview.
18:35 Wow the first time I heard Gaben say "sex".
In this case you will propably like his other public performance, too: th-cam.com/video/Z_AMhZmsJTY/w-d-xo.html
That was amazing. "Giant penises ya know. That's the risk you have to take." That is so out of context its beautiful xD
"They only had to worry about making it the best game of all time." They succeeded
1996: I was born the year valve was created, epic...
The last minute or two is why I love Valve. I would rather wait than have a game that wasn't what I thought it would be.
words of wisdom always give me goose bumps!
words of wisdom always give me goose bumps
This hit me right in the feels. I believe I watched this when it came out. Poor G4...
imagine if this hacking shit happened again, omg those guys would be literally dead
i miss this show so much, when g4 was good.
Well theres lots of things people like about it. It has a perfect storyline: it's not just shooting and dodging, it has things where you have to think to move on, like breaking a window to go somewhere or stacking blocks on something to give it weight, and this game also has nice gameplay with characters that can give you those "Ph33Lz" so it gets you attached to the game.
both of my ears loved this...
Im so happy that my favorite game, Half Life, was released on my birthday, November 19, 1998. So amazing.
Icons was one of the few things worth watching on G4.
We just get a random Antlion Guard on a rooftop for 22:07
Ahh back when I liked watching Tech TV and had a hope for Half Life 3's release. Makes me feel like a kid again! :D
13:04 he looks like cave johnson
+Jonathan Swavely That's because he was the reference for Cave. Valve used many of its members as examples for game characters
sounds a little bit like him too haha.
I love you valve and half life
Game developers are really cool people.
the worst was adjusting to fucking steam back in the dial up days. hated the SHIT out of steam
Miss this show, R.I.P G4
I like how in-game, they have God Mode on XD
From 1998 HL1 +/- 40 € to 2020 Alyx 1100 € VR
Man I remember watching this when it aired on G4.
Thanks, I needed it
No u didn't
I love this video! It took me back, thanks for posting this.
I hope they release the game before I frick'n die. :-)
Come on VALVᴱ, I need to shoot something!
maybe Half-Life 3 is being rebooted at this right moment
Two years later... Welp :P
I doubt it :(
half life 2 ep 3 better be worth our wait
The soundtrack in this video borrow uses a vocal clip that was used in the OSTs for Tomb Raider: Legend, and SHOGO: Mobile Armor Division. This clip keeps showing up in the weirdest places...
Man, this video is the only thing I got to make me feel confident in HL3
Episode 3/ HalfLife 3 is the epitome of vapourware.
hl2 was my first video game and is still my favorite series
they will probably never release half life 3, 8 fucking years waiting, for nothing
I think he said it will be released in a convention.
elnathan liow zhe ying what convention?
that what i think too the graphics will be awesome
Half Life is an urban legend! I loved the game from the 1st one with all fan modes etc. to the last one. I still wait for an end of this adventure! I've spent many awesome night in this game...dreaming about the Black Mesa
It's from 2004 and has a physics engine from 2014.
this is the best comment (or lack thereof) I have ever had the pleasure of reading (or rather witnessing) ever.
7:45 "We wanted a character like me..."
Ben Haley 7:45
thank you valve
11:00 They use that motto till this day.
hopefully it will be worth the weight
They should do a new interview, talking about everything else they've done
22:13 "Worth the wait." This was before 2007 when Gabe said it in the tutorial of TF2.
After watching this, I guess I don't really blame Valve for being so secretive with Half-Life 3's progress
My left ear loved this
They are still based off the original HL2 engine just with a few upgrades to it. I'm talking about a "new" engine built from the ground up, which i hope they do because the upgraded engine they used for CS:GO and Portal isnt up to par with the Frostbite 2, Cryengine 3, or even the Unreal 3 tech.
I never believed a game was worth full retail price and the only games I ever bought retail price were the half life series. I got into gaming when I bought and over clocked my Intel Celeron 400Mhz and when I stepped off the subway train and saw that character guard walk up and talk to me I knew Half life was going to be awesome!!!!!!
10:40 "Rise and shine Mr. Rise and shine"
puny74 10:40
apparently they may use the updated version of the source engine like the one used in portal 2.
Legend.
4:41
Walter, the main character from Breaking Bad reminds me of Gordon, both by the way he looks and how he suddenly turns into a badass... More or less...
swedisguy 4:41
12:27 Zbrush. Now, picture the baking...
I love TF2,G-Mod and Half life.
Garry's Mod wasn't created by VALVᴱ.
Idc, still like the game XD
lol
:P
@@blu2th11 I think he means the games built on source engine
10:40 Rise and Shine Mr. Rise and Shine
Gabe looks like a big John lennon kinda lol
5:44 history repeats its self, prepare for unforeseen consequences
I wanna see another documentary on Valve with portal, tf2, dota, and all their other games!
They have been working on it for a while now no doubt
2:58 ...see what John Carmack is doing NOOO IT'S SHADOW CARMACK RUN FOR YOUR LIFE
While everyone else works, Gabe rids the scooter at 6:40 around.
That is very possible, but what Gabe has said is that they're not far enough along with it to talk about it. He doesn't want to say one thing and then have to go against his word later.
