  • Hope everyone is staying safe out there. Today we will be fixing the screen of Moto Z4. Last episode we tried the windshield resin hack, but today we're going legit! If you haven't seen a Z4 before, it's a really cool phone. Motorola definitely stepped outside the box with this design.

      If you look on the link in the video, that link shows the difference between the 2 versions. Version 1 has 2 circle cutouts at the top, version 2 has a oval cutout. Shine a flashlight on that spot on your phone and you should be able to see which cutouts yours has. If not, you could buy both. That website has an awesome return policy.

    I don't have any of this tape, but i have E8000 glue. Wandering through TH-cam phone screen replacement videos, trying to figure out how to use the glue correctly so it doesn't go where i don't want it to... Or maybe i'll need to get the tape instead?
    This is not about the other phone, the one i've been using for 5 years and that still isn't severely damaged, it's about an even older phone which got waterlogged years ago and since then has a dead digitiser and cloudy screen, i figured i'd try resurrecting it, screens aren't exactly expensive. I don't know whether the digitiser will work after replacement, whether the damage is in the screen subassembly or on the logic board, but the board actually looks good with no obvious signs, and i mean otherwise the phone runs. The battery puffed up eventually and got disposed of, but i cut off its flex cable and recently i soldered some wires to it, and just ran 4.2V from a voltage/current regulator, and the phone ran. I was able to connect a USB mouse over OTG and perform some data recovery.
    So yeah anyway the water obviously got between the LCD and the backlight in somehow, among other things, and so this lead me to think, what if the same happens when i glue the LCD module to the chassis and the glue also makes its way into the LCD... the bezel is so thin...

    • @JoeDoesStuff
      @JoeDoesStuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't recommend using the glue on screens. It can bleed into the picture. Also, the moto Z4 doesn't have anything protecting the motherboard.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoeDoesStuff The phone i'm repairing is a Huawei P7-L10. The screen is attached to a magnesium carrier frame, the board is on the opposite side of the frame.
      Tesa tape costs a few €. Seems i might as well get a fully glued up frame and screen instead for about 3€ extra.

    • @JoeDoesStuff
      @JoeDoesStuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely. It's so much easier with the frame!

    • @JoeDoesStuff

      Use alcohol and a toothbrush and clean them. Scrub them hard. Debris can get lodged in the cracks and stop them from working.

      You can. They don’t disperse the heat as evenly so you will need to be a little more patient.
