What a powerful, beautiful and utterly moving documentary featuring Maya. She had more courage than I did at her age, but after a lot of 'life stuff' I am on the transgendered journey and not looking back. As Maya said, until she was transitioning, she could not look at the rest of her life and be happy. Happy for her and anyone who makes the leap - it's a level of courage we don't know we possess until we do it. This video was wonderfully put together, thank you Justine.
This should be on Maya's channel to get more attention. I only got to see this thanks to her twitter that I only check once in a while. I mean most her videos get over a 100k views and since this doc is very well put together it deserves to be more out there;)

I love Maya!!! I'm a mom of a newly semi out trans teen girl and Maya has helped me understand and hope for a positive outcome. She's made me laugh and cry.
Maya you are a very good story teller - I teared up several times. I have watched some of your vlog and while this has much more cinematic quality (thanks to Justine) you are the one telling your story and you have a way of drawing us in. I wish I had figured myself out in University, it would have made my life so much easier, however I know I would still have stayed in the closet for the same reasons you expressed in this documentary. Society, fear, family, job... to many to list but we know all to well what the 80's and 90's were like. When I finally came out around 2000 the climate was still too hostile for my liking - so I stayed stealth, dying bit by bit, year after year, until I couldn't stand it any longer. I came out only this year and will be starting HRT sometime this Fall (I hope). Please keep telling your story Maya - and Justine please keep telling more of our stories because this one was beautiful and we need more. *hugs*
I don't know how many times I've seen this doc, but I must say it's been a lot and well directed. Whenever I watch dis vid, I feel as though there is hope to express my true inner female nature self. I can even relate to many things Maya con through as a transwoman. Right now for me, I identify as Genderfluid male, but my nature is more towards being a female. Thank you to Justine Riches, Maya, Stef Sanjati, and everyone involve in dis project. 😌🙃🙂
What an informative video. I just came from a TransgenderYouth Care Conference and I have completely absorbed the concept of the urgency of stating blockers, hormone therapy, reassignment surgery, etc. There should not be such a long wait. Hope everything happens soon, but if everything fails. Come to California.

I love Maya. One thing that I notice is that she nearly always looks as if she's about to cry when she's talking all serious. Like, I know she's such a chill gal, but I want to give her a big hug when she gets all serious about stuff. >.>
Your little sister looks just like you. Maya is such beautiful person. I also love the voice and hope who ever she ends up with in life will accept it as it is.
Great little documentary. I've been subscribed for a while because Maya is so lovely, is a great inspiration for me as I am going through this process and it is taking soo long to get appointments. As I am older, I stop and think do I really want to go through this all the time. And then I remember, yes, I have wanted this my whole life. It just wasn't really available, the vocabulary wasn't even developed and so information really didn't even exist except the desire has always been there for so many of us. So, Thank you Maya! And I hope all goes well and we hear from you again soon.

This is such a good video! Really interesting and I learnt some new stuff, it's horrible that you have to wait for so long to complete the transition (given that it is what defines the end of a transition of course, not everyone want to take that step) but still...hope that it changes

I have so much respect for you and want you to know that. I hope that some day when I need to, I will be able to have even half of the courage that you do when I need it. that was emotional maya thank you for your experience I'm going through the same thing I'm transitioning I have been for a couple of months now I'm just waiting confirmation from my doctors so I can be referred to a psychologist to check on my metal health issues and such so it's just the beginning for me but aside from all that I'm getting massive hate from loads of different people in the society world but I'm learning to egnore it and just concentrate on me love you maya keep doing what your doing i wanna see more from you xox
It's sad she had to wait nearly 5 years even from the time of this video before GRS given how she talks about it at the end. But it's also good to know she's thriving years on and that she got through it.

I think it's not bad that the process is difficult and takes some time. Not every person that wants to change their gender is really transgender. There are those cases where it's "just" a symptom of a different mental illness. Traumatic experiences (from early childhood), identity crysis, OCD etc. There are people that are completely healthy and only the fact that they feel like having the wrong gender makes their lives seem meaningless. But I don't think it's a good idea to make such dangerous procedures like sex changes easily available. Too many people will try use it as a one-button-heal where the issue is something completely different. It's so easy to think, "ah if I was a boy/girl all my problems would go away". Even I thought that once or twice and I'm really happy with my gender. And in those cases invasive operations certainly are not the correct "medication". I agree though that waiting lists should not be the issue. The process should take time but not because there aren't enough places to help you.
Voice is always the issue, the thing that outs you. If you were actually in theatre, get a voice coach and work hard. I changed mine and there was no surgery. You can do this.
