M night said he wanted the ending to be about Dorothy and Leanne’s relationship
Mother without child and child without a mother
    Cinematography was incredible
Love the reflection of Leanne’s face in the floor when she’s on stairway
It’s almost symbolic of the 2 faces of Leanne (good/evil)
And the reflection of the mannequin made me jump
I think Dorothy’s legs healed bc Leanne lost power and then died
She caused the wounds so she can heal them too
When she dries Dorothy’s feet and tells her that her and Jericho forgive her for what happened that day he died, I knew she would die.
I think Dorothy’s kindness was her repayment for letting her have her son another few months .. beautiful gift to Leann who was good until the end when she felt some power and freedom
She also just wanted to be normal like read , dance , date etc but since she was a CLS member that’s not allowed , not bc they are mean , but bc u were given a second chance at life , u can’t waste it on anything for you ,just being a “servant”

Remember when Uncle George had Leanne in the Basement and he was trying to coerce her into committing suicide. ? I noticed a cool little parallel. Okay so Uncle George had almost convinced Leanne to commit suicide. But then when he changed his tone and start calling her Evil and Wicked. That's when she changed her mind and Killed him instead. Now Imagine Dorothy representing Uncle George trying to Convince Leanne to off herself, then when Leanne askec Dorothy if she was evil Dorothy didn't berate her ,she uplifted her and encouraged her instead And I believe that was the pivotal moment . Because if Dorothy started talking crazy to Leanne like Uncle George did , the ending would of been a lot different. Dorothy literally Killed Leanne with Kindness.

The shots! Some of the best I’ve ever seen. The shot with Leanne’s face mirrored on the furniture blew my mind, yes Julian facing the house on fire was incredible. Stunning camera work.
I’m going to miss this show so much. I just finished it last night. It was not how I envisioned the end at all but I’m an optimist. I never saw the twist with Julian and though good it wasn’t enough for me. Still it was one of my favorite shows. I’ll watch it again for sure. I thought it would be less tragic for Leanne and I’m so glad she had that sweet moment with Dorothy.

The Church of the Lesser Saints
-this group seems to be filled with people who were responsible for their own demise. I actually don’t think that any of them have powers to resurrect anyone, but I think that they have people in hospitals (Aunt May) that can revive people (completely naturally). These are our typical day “miracles” because it wasn’t in God’s plan for them to die and there was always someone “at the right place, at the right time “ that saved them from actually dying, but the CLS has taken this as them having the power to “save the righteous”. These people were probably not dead dead, but died for a short time and not in serious enough condition to not be brought back to life.
-Leanne started a fire by burning her mother’s dress for attention and love.
    -Julian OD’d over his guilt
-Uncle George was a sad man and used a rope.
-Officer Reyes crashed her parent’s car as a teen.
Jericho was not responsible for his own death. That’s why he couldn’t come back and why Leanne said that God didn’t bring him back. This means that Jericho was brought back by something dark and that is why there was so much bad happening when he was brought back. I think the shadow figure was to play in this. It has been tied to this family and this house and I think when Leanne moved in, her love for Dorothy, I think she made a deal with him to bring Jericho back (using the doll as a vessel).
Since Leanne came into this house as an act of love, but then made a deal to please Dorothy with selfish intent, it threw off the balance and that is why everything started rotting and crumbling.

    • @plguy24
      @plguy24 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I like this a lot. I think, in a way, Jericho became the way that Leanne felt that she deserved and could get love. Dorothy loved Jericho, and Leanne gave her Jericho, so Dorothy by proxy loved Leanne. It was, really, when the family began taking their love away, and treating her badly, that things started to get much worse. At her core, Leanne was just a scared, abused child who never understood what true love was. When she received that love from Dorothy, and even learned perhaps that love transcends death, Jericho was no longer required for her to feel loved. I think part of the reason the kids in the park may have caused things to be worse is because they were feeding her what she thought was love, but was really a twisted source of hate against the cult. They 'loved' her not because of who she was, but because of what they feel she did for them. Leanne, essentially still a child, confused this attention with love, and it brought the worst out in her, like a child who learns they can get their parents' or teacher's attention by breaking things and having a tantrum.
Interesting how this show has allowed us to interpret things in our own ways, based perhaps on our own experiences. I definitely approach is from the view of someone working in mental health :).

At least Leanne died knowing that Dorothy did love her like a daughter.

  •  ปีที่แล้ว +3

I hated the end. Leanne literally killed her parents and a gang of other people... Dorothy literally killed her own baby. And they want us to empathize with these horrible people???
Also the storm scene was silly. Dorothy's face wasn't even wet lol
It was too rushed. Dorothy's decision whether to have Jericho return and forsake her whole family needed a whole season really. They should have had that discovery when she bedridden. Then she would have been forced to "sit" with that information. Way more traumatic
Even with all this the series was still amazing. I loved the fire scene and the twist about the brother now being in CLS. I could have done without the rushed mother/ daughter resolution

Im glad you guys managed to find enjoyment out of this episode but it personally left me disappointed. It sadly proved that all the continuity errors and production errors were mistakes.
It felt very rushed and the characters seemed off to me. I didn’t like the sudden switch of emotion - one minute they all hated Leanne and wanted her gone, next minute Dorothy and Leanne were best friends. It wasn’t believable.
I think the ending would have worked better if we actually saw Dorothy grieve more after finding out about Jericho and then see her slowly come to terms with what Leanne actually did for her. They should of sacrificed some episodes in this season in order to make this work.
My favourite thing about this episode was finding out that Julian was an angel. Julian looking through the shop window with the wings behind him was really cool. I am definitely up for a JuJu spin off!

While the chances of this happening are next to nothing, I can't help but wish for a Juju spinoff. I envision Julian's character remaining true to his nihilistic and alcoholic ginger self, but this time as an angel. Such a spinoff would also provide an opportunity to explain the past of different characters along with tying up some loose ends, and providing deeper insight into the CLS.

Just giving you guys a heads up, I’m going to be putting a few more comments on this video for the next day or so on stuff I have been looking into to make some things make sense after the finale of this show. I just need to organize some of it. I definitely like the finale more after looking more into things, but definitely feel that this show would have been better as a movie instead because when you spend 4 years with these characters, it’s just natural that you want more info on backstories and stuff. I feel like that is what makes a difference between a movie and a television show. While saying that, I don’t regret deep diving into this show. For me personally, I feel like all of our crazy theories actually made this show one of the absolute best, and downright fun shows to watch!

    The green window
-windows represent a portal. A view into another world, but unable to participate.
-“eyes are the window to the soul”
-windows offer new views, mirrors offer reflections.
-we are seeing the window from the outside so that can represent being excluded or left out.
-the color green represents life, fertility, renewal, resurrection, new beginnings, growth and healing.
From this, I feel like the green window can represent something that we are being left out on. Maybe we didn’t get all of the information from that situation and we were left to fill in the blanks and the narrative can be unreliable. I think another thing it might represent is new beginnings. Here are the episodes the green window was in and what new beginnings it might represent.
-S1 E9 “Jericho”. New life as a mother who lost her child. This kick starts the need for Leanne in her life.
-S3 E5 “Tiger”. New life for Leanne as a leader instead of a follower because this is when she finds out that the “Leannisters” are actually there FOR her because she was able to leave the CLS.
-S4 E1 “Pigeon”. This is when Dorothy comes home after her fall and now has a new life as someone who isn’t in control and she needs to rely on help from others. Leanne almost becomes the “mother” or caregiver to Dorothy now.

One of the things I keep coming back to is this idea that the COLS seems to require forced servitude, of sorts, in that they make the argument that you have no choice but to be a member if you are "brought back" the way Julian was, for example. Given the biblical nature and themes in so much of this show, I find it interesting that the idea of free will, a concept many religions debate and view as a part of being human and something given to us by God, doesn't exist in the cult. Everyone essentially blindly does what they are told, without questioning, with the exception of Leanne and the others who left the cult. In this same vein, I also find it significant that Leanne, as far as we know, is the only member who willingly sacrificed herself, and who performed the ritual on herself, at the time of her choosing, to save the Turners (and the world beyond). This, along with the scenes of her appearing to clean and wash Dorothy's feet, make me see her as less the wicked, 'fallen' one and more like a Jesus figure. I have a lot of other things that have occurred to me, as well, that also make me more content with the story line as a whole, but that is for another time!

On first watch I didn't hate the finale, but as I think about it more and more, all the untied loose ends, red herrings, and continuity issues...This just wasn't very good. Another Shyamalan ending that feels underwhelming. I feel like he hides behind these ambiguous endings because he doesn't have the guts to end a story. ALSO: When the officer is talking to Dorothy and said she was sent to look after one of their sisters, Dorothy says, "Leann?" and we never get confirmation. I think it's implying that Dorothy herself has been resurrected at some point. That officer was in Dorothy's life before Leann ever was.

    • @ocdmusic
      @ocdmusic ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah they said everything was deliberate and meaningful in the set etc but then completely neglected to follow through on that, why even make half of the stuff part of the story if it was nothing more than a passing thought. Its like they wrote it how it made sense in their heads but not to the audience. I can handle ambiguity, even an unhappy ending but with what we got they really could have condensed it all down into a 2 hour film. They built all this stuff up abought the CLS and faustian bargins but it all fell short.
The actors were all great and the set creators, cameramen/women etc all done a great job but the story itself was lacking, why even bother having the CLS in the story if we arent going to get any firm answers on them, so many stupid niggly little details that were important to the story that were never addressed that we were led to believe were a part of the story but the story would have been just as strong without them. Its just sad how it ended and kinda pointless. Leanne was emotionally abused by her mother, resurrected with the only purpose in life to help other people but all she wants is a mother so she brings someones child back for them all the while this cult that we know nothing about is potrayed to have some big part to play in the series but becomes incidental to the story, she gets rejected again and somehow the world starts to end (in Philidelphia at least) and she has to kill herself and thats the outcome of the show.
I feel bad for the actors because they done an amazing job with what they had to work with, just a shame it turned out so full of plotholes and no explanations. Im just glad I didnt spend a few years obsessed over it!

  • @tlw842
    @tlw842 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Actually, I thought initially that Dorothy might kill Leanne herself. Leanne went down in the fire (hell) similar to the last scene in Drag Me to Hell, so I guess she was a fallen angel after all. I knew the house would not survive in the end. There were so many story line diversions (Marino family, etc.) that weren't really necessary. I think the ending was pretty good and nice touch to bring back Det. Reyes.

The title of this show is “Servant” and Leanne has been referred to as a Servant for the CLS, which would make her a “Servant of God”. This is actually a title used by the Catholic Church for an individual who is on the 1st step towards possible canonization as a Saint. (Church of the Lesser saints anyone? lol)
-canonization is to declare (a deceased person) an officially recognized saint.
    3 steps to sainthood
    1) Venerable- title given to a deceased person recognized formally by the pope as having lived a heroically virtuous life or offered their own life.
    2) Blessed-title given after performing a miracle
    3) canonization-title requires a 2nd miracle
The CLS requires members to perform self harm after “sin” And during the 1st step of the “reunification ritual”. Probably to keep that person “virtuous” for “sainthood”.
Leanne performed a few miracles and tried to live a virtuous life, but she fell from God. The CLS tried to perform the “reunion ritual” on Leanne multiple times to “save her” (in their own twisted cult beliefs), but in reality, Leanne had to ultimately “choose” to perform this on herself because her free will was too powerful.
In the end, Leanne realized her own mistake of trying to fix Dorothy’s mistake by bringing Jericho back. It wasn’t Leanne’s mistake to fix so she made her own mistake out of love for Dorothy and a longing for a mother. Sean and Julian had to fix their mistake by telling Dorothy the truth and Dorothy had to fix her mistake by remembering what happened to Jericho and accept the blame and pain from that mistake.
After Dorothy and Leanne were able to forgive one another for their mistakes and forgive themselves, Leanne decided that the only way to save the Turners was to set them free. Leanne performing the ritual on herself was to set the Turners free and also a symbol that she “returned to Him”.
( I do not promote self harm or sacrificing oneself at all because I lost a younger brother because he “lost his battle with depression”, but I feel like, from the things we were told in this show and how things played out, that what I said above and in my other comments on this video, explained what the ending meant. At least to me, who knows, maybe the ending was so “left to interpretation” for it to relate to whatever the viewer wants to connect it to. Sadly, we may never know.)

  • @waltzingmatilda9092
    @waltzingmatilda9092 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think so many of the theories and unanswered questions could still be true! Like… a LOT of them! And it makes rewatches so fun because we can still try to connect dots that we hadn’t seen before! I love it! I also think some of the unanswered questions was deliberate, because we were supposed to focus on the specific journey of the grieving family - essentially, the things that were answered is like the creators putting a highlighter through the page and saying ‘hey, this is what the show was about at the centre of it, so these are the things you are getting answers to’ and we just have to speculate the rest.
I think the ending felt rushed, and I think you’re right, the finale could have done with a 60 minute runtime, but there were some great moments… I love how as soon as Leanne knew Dorothy could accept her, Leanne felt she could accept letting go… I love how Dorothy’s arc was completed by accepting Jericho’s death (acceptance seems to be a reoccurring theme of the finale) and finding it in herself to forgive, thank, and accept Leanne… Julian and Sean accepting that Dorothy needed to know, and taking responsibility for their role in all of this… these were good arcs… it was all just rushed into the 29 mins so it felt a little disingenuous.

It went to the VERY END….to get a real notion of what it all was…at least most of it. I am talking until the policewoman emerged and spoke to Julian in the final scene . And what the CHURCH OF THE LESSER SAINTS seems to be. That is those that have come back from death and seem to possess the ability to reanimate other dead . Of course LEANN reanimated a DOLL…so maybe it is more? The only thing that threw me into WTF territory is DOROTHYS change seemingly in personality and character…to me she was a bitch filled with vanity most of the show but here she admits the tragedy of Jerichos death and tries to save LEANNE….KIND OF PERPLEXING. All told with that ending it was kind of giving it all meaning and maybe leaving a furthering of the LESSER SAINTS saga. Who knows .it kept me interested for 4 seasons even if the show could be slow and frustrating. Thanks.

    A poem called: Meg's Rant
    Well...Hell!
    This did not gel!
Leanne was an angel sent from the skies
That is 'til her body count started to rise
She killed here and there to prove her love
Was she sent from below or from heaven above?
Dorothy hired Leanne to watch her son Jericho
He was a doll not a baby, not true flesh but faux
She brought him back to life for he was so dear
If Dorothy hadn't killed him, he would still be here
We did not see the man with the hook
Was Roscoe sincere or was he mistook?
Julian was a coward and so was Sean
Why couldn't they tell Dorothy what she'd done wrong?
But they held their tongues and made things worse
And soon their whole street fell under a curse
The cult tried to kill her, but failed and failed
Yet Leanne succeeded to impale and impale
She had a cult of her own called the Leannisters
She made sure her dear Dorothy fell off the banister
Then Dorothy's feelings turned on a dime
Leanne tried to kill me, but now I feel fine
All the people she'd killed and the wrath she had wrought
And Dorothy told her it wasn't her fault?!
Forgive and forget, that's the moral of the story
We've been teased all this time for a simple allegory?
Poor Tobe thought Leanne had accepted his date
But instead, she decided to accept her own fate
With gallons of gas and one single match
The steps of the ritual she soon dispatched
    Leanne wasn't evil, just misunderstood
So she killed herself to prove she was good
The Turners were able to leave all they had built
I thought they were selfish and deserved all their guilt
Turns out Julian's overdose was fatal that day
Now the CLS says he must join and obey
And so ends the story, I've enjoyed our time
And hope that you also have enjoyed this rhyme
You might've hated the show, you might've backed it
Now I'll follow Scene Invaders & watch Yellowjackets

So how did Dorothy heal from just finding out she killed Jericho ? And how did her back heal so fast. She went from using a walker the episode prior to walking on two legs and getting inside of a cab.

I have a feeling Leanne did something before they went outside when she was on the bed...could be wrong 🤷‍♂️

That scene with Leanne and Dorothy, I think, is very biblical in nature, and perhaps gives some insight into whether Leanne is actually "fallen." In the gospel of John, Jesus washes the feet of the disciples at the Last Supper, the night before he is crucified. From the Brittanica: "The early Christian church introduced the custom (of foot washing) to imitate the humility and selfless love of Jesus, who washed the feet of the Twelve Apostles at the Last Supper (John 13:1-15), the night before his Crucifixion."

The Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie, so I may be bias to all the references. Someone mentioned Julian wearing plaid like Dorothy; Julian was wearing a green jacket in the finale - green representing Oz; you all mentioned he ate the green window on the cake; Dorothy trying to save her on the roof in the rain like Oz Dorothy using water to try to save the Wicked Witch from burning; Leanne burning like the Wicked Witch; the house falling on Leanne; Dorothy accepting reality of Jericho’s death and Sean saying I don’t think we are coming back - there’s no place like home…I’m sure we could find more!
Loved it ending with Julian’s last words “Holy Sh*t” - how he’ll probably be as a new lesser saint, a not so great degree of holiness.

Am I the only person that noticed that Servant is actually a prequel to Knock at the Cabin. Just like in Knock Leanne couldnt be killed she had to make the choice to kill herself

Hated this ending. Season 1 was so good and it just went downhill after that. So much filler when the real story was her realization of the accidental death of her son, and was Jericho real, everything else was filler. Writers definitely had no plan to end this when they started it.

Can CLS be resurrected after receiving the “true death”?

Leanne killed her parents as a child. She should have had some serious therapy and placed with a family that could care for a seriously sick human. The episode was flat and lazy. The acting on the roof between L and D was forced at best. Cults can have you do anything including killing yourselves check out Jones Town, Heavens gate and more recently Nxivm. Creepy. She would have never had time to conduct a ritual she would have died of smoke inhalation first. The fire would have never been cool enough by morning to even begin to look they bring in dogs for that when appropriate. Again imo another MKS disappointment

Is this a stupid question… so Jericho was brought back to life by Leanne using her special powers?

Yep! A power the CLS members possess, but she did it from a doll, not a person
