I would love to see your portfolio for Naomi because with my 5 year old with DS so much if what he does is hands on and not something that produces papers. I want to make sure I document his hard work, but am struggling with how to show it.
Hiii! I just found you on youtube! thanks so much for this video, I was sooo overwhelmed because it's our first year officially homeschooling and I didn't know what to do! Do you still do evaluations? If so I live near Tampa. Where are you located? I don't have an evaluator.
Thank you. I thought I was super unorganized and that I was missing something. but I'm actually good on my kids porfolio. I have 3 kids in one big binder and all of their grades, attendance, book list etc. in excel. I'm a 1st time homeschool momma of 3 boys (9r old with autism, 7yr old with ADHD and a 2yr old). You have helped me so much.
This school year I went back to breaking down our curriculum into weeks and using a file bin. Then use a binder to keep current weeks worth of worth to do in a binder for my son to grab. Then next to it I keep his portfolio binder and at the end of the day or week I’ll transfer over to the portfolio binder. So far that’s been tremendous in helping keep it together and not overwhelming. Do plan on weeding it down during Christmas break to only the pieces we want to keep but just having it organized ready to use is great. Thanks for the info. Hope the link gets fixed bc I’d love the printable you mentioned.
Thank you for the tips. Will definitely be implementing these. I have come to the understanding that the portfolios are for memory and if we get audited by school districts. Sometimes I feel like I take my portfolio more seriously than my evaluator.
What is involved in the evaluation with the kids? Do you ask set questions? I got the keeping the work down lol. Our state dose not require it but I keep a few pages of work just incase. We are checking out different state requirements for when we move. Our state is fill out a NOI yearly and have fun 😎.
I just look through their work and just chat with them. The questions are very natural and just based on what I see. I personally, if they are shy, will start by asking them their favorite subject just to get the ball rolling.
Thanks for this!! I really like the date stamp idea I think we might actually do that! Every day when we are done with school (sometimes after chores and cooking) I grade their work and put it immediately in their portfolio so that it’s ready at end of the year. I have a question as usual! We started in July with math only, however, we got sick which put us back a few weeks! So my question is: if we started in July do we get evaluated in July? Or can we do the evaluation sooner? Again, thanks for all your help you are a rockstar.
Whatever you start date is according to your letter of intent. So whenever you originally sent in your letter of intent, July? June? December? That is your anniversary. You need your evaluation done by that date. These are Florida laws, so I am assuming your in Florida.
Hi thanks for the video. I have a couple questions. My grandson has down syndrome and we have decided to homeschool him using a combination of montessori and so happy to learn. I can save to work from so happy to learn but not so much with montessori work, how do I save practical life work into a binder? Thanks for your help.
I am at a loss for what to do as far as a portfolio for this year. We lost everything we owned - everything! So I have nothing to show for this year and all our records for the last 3 years were lost as well. I don't know where to begin. We moved to Florida and I have absolutely nothing except the few pieces of work that was done within the last month. What do you suggest?
I have a question about the book list. My boys do reading and with their reading they have to read stories out of the book that comes with their curriculum. We are doing Christian Light for reading. I don’t have my kids read anything outside their reading curriculum. Should I have them read more and be logging it? My oldest will pick up a book and read things he is interested in (bugs, electrical things, how things work etc.) but to pick up a book and finish it to the end, he only does during summer when our library has their summer reading program. My middle reads a lot! He would read all day if he was allowed so I don’t assign him any books either outside their reading curriculum. Any information on this would be much appreciated!
Honestly, it is up to you. I do let my kids read for fun, whenever they want to, but I do monitor it. As long as it doesn't stop them from doing their other school work or chores.
1 Sample per every 2-weeks is a great rule of thumb - THANKS!
Our little kids loved being the one to change the date on the stamp in the morning. LOL.

Me too! 😥🥺
Just came across this video! Thank you so much for the info!!! Literally made so much sense to me.

This is awesome. It really makes things easier.
Thanks for this I'm going on my third year and I don't have any records. 😬

Yes, that is true. Seriously, it's your kids and you have a connection to it.
😀
Love the checklist

Leilani you’re a great evaluator! 💗
Thanks!

@@LivingWithEve Yes, we are in Florida!! Ok, so as long as it’s before that date of the letter of intent? I’m a first timer 🥴

I would just take some photos and put them in the binder of him using the tools.
Thank you. Do you put a curriculum outline ? I also stay in Florida. Or do you just add what your sources are?
I just add the sources. But you could go either way.

with teaching textbooks, how to you put anything in their portfolios for that?? We are getting ready to switch to teaching textbooks
Just print up the grades and take a few screen shots.

How do you put together a portfolio in FL if you're an unschooler?
I would do photos and lists.
All our subjects are in different binders. Easier to keep organized. Is that ok?
Yes!
@@LivingWithEve Great! Thanks :-)
Do you evaluate progress based on Florida homeschooling laws or state standards?
Homeschool laws
Off the subject but is it possible to teach a dyslexic child to read without an expensive curriculum?
Yes, however you will have to do a lot of work researching and learning. Anything is possible.
Hi, I tried the link to your webpage and it didn't work for me :( Can you hyperlink it, please? :) Thanks!!
Link isn’t working for me either.
It was a severity issue but it’s up now.
