Yes, I am decluttering to have a new beginning. A new future that's simplistic and serene.

I've been decluttering for almost 20 years and have down-sized 3 times. We will be moving into another home soon and I am dreading going through the packing process. Having to touch and confront all that you own is daunting. Just today I dropped off donations to the local charity thrift store in preparation for said move. So my latest "why" is because of a move.

I declutter because great changes in my life. I started when nesting, expecting great changes and clean out space for them. Then I became a mom and continued decluttering things finding out my new self. Also I needed to ease my home routines and more space for baby’s things and in my head :) And soon I will move to another country. And I started decluttering more and more. All in one year! And I’m enjoying it! Your video are so inspirational and helpful to let go things and be open to new changes. Thank you, Sarah!

Great video, as usual Sarah! One of my why's (which may seem morbid...but stick with me), is not wanting to have anyone else have to go through all my things when I'm gone. I'd like to avoid adding any extra stress on them trying to figure out if something is/was important and what they should do with that item. So many of our things mean nothing to anyone else but us, and I like to ensure I have only a few of those items that I find really important to me around. This way they aren't hidden away, or forgotten about, or crowded out by other items that aren't as important.

It was nice to be reminded of my why. It is time to refocus and get out of the mire.

its especially helpful to ask yourself Why when doing something as life changing as decluttering your home! A lot of the time when people say their whys it has to do with wanting more room, but I think it ties back to your first point about them needing that mental weight off their shoulders and minds. I also sort of got lost as to why I was decluttering, but watching this video really helped put it back into perspective for myself. Thank you for making this video :D

I didn't know it back then when I first got started a few years ago, but for me, I'd say my why for decluttering had a lot to with finding out my own sense of self/identity. I didn't know who I was to myself, even if people were able to see different things in me from their own perspective. My mental health was in a much worse place back then, and my surroundings were in a state of what could be described as organized clutter. For the most part, at least, I'm glad I'm not in that position anymore ❤️

Thanks Sarah 👍 As always appreciate your helpful prompts and insights to think about why 😊 So on that note! I think my why is living simply and to actively declutter, pass on items and don't replace what I no longer need with my intention of leaving behind as little as possible!

Yup. Leaving behind as little as possible is my main why as well. Kinda weird in our home. Girlfriend moved in to my established home at very short notice and is kind of a hoarder. Having had it fall to me to go through the possessions of several lost loved ones, I don't want to leave such a burden to someone else....the result is we share a flat that she feels is more mine than hers, but most of the stuff in it is hers! Lol. Xxx

My problem when decluttering is the " maybe I 'll need this in the future". I've decluttered somethings that I hadn't used for years and then my life got a shift and I needed something I just got rid of. Anyway I continue decluttering.
