    The Hungarian's refusing to fire on the Poles isn't the cause of the bromance, it's just another example of it.
    It goes back centuries. Hungary and Poland have shared a king in the past, and continually had the back of each other, often when nobody else would help.

      So true. Actually, Hungarian units offered to fight (yes, fight!) on polish side in the Uprising, only if soviets later recognised this and gave them "allies" status. Which soviets, ofcours, refused. (sorry for any misspelling). Polak, Wegier, dwa bratanki,i do szabli, i do szklanki!

      Eastern Europe, and Poland in particular, did get a raw deal.
      The problem stems from it not being a two sided war. Russia had their own agenda, and I think the allies were a bit caught between keeping the Russians on-side and actually trying to do the right thing.
      I think Stalin was hugely underestimated.

They had things happen in Poland, even if they were not a real country for that time. That is kinda like saying that Getmany has a shirt history, because they didn’t exist until the mid 1800’s, but thats not the case because the HRE and German Confederation, and Prussia,Bavaria, ect.

      on the night of August 3-4, allied planes - one halifax and three liberators - appeared for the first time over Warsaw with the Polish crews of the 1586th Special Squadron. It would not be surprising if it were not for the fact that this drop was the result of insubordination of Polish crews. Despite the intervention of the representatives of the Polish government with the British authorities, the action over the city was not approved by the deputy commander of the Mediterranean Allied Air Force (MAAF), marshal of aviation John 
      Slessor, who claimed that such flights are marked by a high risk (the route was 1,400 km long and led over the Adriatic, Yugoslavia and Hungary, where there was a strong anti-aircraft defense and base of night fighters), and in addition Warsaw is in the operational zone of the Red Army and it is Soviet aviation that should support the insurgents

    3:35 Yes, indeed, it would be foolish from Soviet perspective, if they weren't liberators... Ah, but the essential question for Russians is, "were they liberators, as they claim, or just a third party to the conflict?" They claim to be liberators... who just a week ago have pompously celebrated the anniversary of liberating a dead ruin and were outraged Poland doesn't celebrate with them.
    About the same time Paris revolted, and Allies, although it ruined their plans and they weren't fond of the French aspirations in general, dropped everything and rushed to help.

    • @Mira-K
      @Mira-K 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Tom Fury Soviet radio was calling the Poles to rise up, that's first.
      Second, so reestabilishing a free state fighting common enemy is somehow directed against the "liberator"? I thought that's the very definition of the word...
      Third, even if I'm willing to accept that there were valid logistical reasons for halt of Red Army's advance: banning allied aircrafts from landing on soviet airports and destroying Polish resistance units from Eastern Poland heading to support Warsaw is nothing short of proof that Soviets put greater priority on subjugating Poland than on driving the Germans out of it. Such "liberators".
      If the USA liberated France the same way Soviets did Poland, de Gaulle would die in Alcatraz for "collaboration with Nazis" and Paris would be a pile of rubble instead of world's cultural capital.

    Dude, great video but why did you upload it just minutes after the latest WW2 episode? :)
    Seriously though, thanks for popularising this topic. Despite that the video is short and not so serious, you managed to put a lot of information in it (including some often overlooked even in serious discussions about the Uprising).
    Since you were trying to be fair to the Soviets, I might add that there are some further arguments to be made in their defense (although they all come with counter-arguments to which I will get).
    1. The Bagration offensive that brought the Red Army close to Warsaw was already running out of steam before the Uprising and another offensive was starting way down South on the other side of Carpathians, so there were some legitime reasons for Soviets to stop BUT their Polish radio station was still encouraging the people of Warsaw to rise up.
    2. That little attempts at assistance to the insurgents in September included not only artillery shelling but also some limited air-drops, the Soviet Air Forces finally stopping letting Luftwaffe do whatever it pleased over Warsaw, and finally even letting some of the Polish troops under Soviet command to cross the river. HOWEVER, the drops were made in sacks without parachutes by low-flying small biplanes, which did little besides endangering the pilots and the troops that crossed the Vistula were far too weak to make any real difference, so it looks like sacrificing some Poles to make a semblance of helping Poles. All it achieved was prolonging the agony of the Uprising because the Home Army broke the first round of the capitulation negotiations, which they just started.
    The eventual capitulation was BTW kinda a little "success" because the German forces originally got directives from both Hitler and Himmler to literary kill everyone in the rebellious city (they did pretty much that in the districts of Ochota and Wola, which were the first to fall) and they generally weren't in a habit of negotiating with the resistance fighters or taking them as POWs. The bitter Polish resistance eventually made them propose terms of surrender instead. Also, the Western Allies issued a proclamation reminding that the members of the Home Army are in fact allied soldiers (too bad it didn't work on the Soviets).

    • @HistoryHouseProductions
      @HistoryHouseProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another super great comment my guy! Yeah, the Soviets did send the Polish contingent of their army across, but they all got mowed down pretty much. Another cool fact about the Polish surrender is that as several units were leaving the city, the SS lined up to salute them! I thought that that was pretty interesting.
