People don't want to admit it, but racially homogeneous countries in asia are very "racist." "Racist" might not even be the right term, because they don't even mean to be. They have no ill intent. It's just that so many prejudices are hardwired into their culture and they *don't notice it*, and it's because they don't encounter "outsiders" or "foreigners" in a regular basis. That's the scary part. They're blind to their prejudices. Recall all those japanese reactions on youtube to the "but we're speaking Japanese" video. It's something similar to that. What's worse, is that because of colonialism, in some countries like the Philippines, they've attached these prejudices to your race. So for example if you're Caucasian, then you must be filthy rich, therefore it's okay to rob/cheat/steal from you since you have money to spare. "You're white, you're probably just a sex tourist or a rich well off backpacking globetrotter." If you're dark skinned, you must be poor, or thuggish, because you're skin has darkened since you've spent a lot of days doing manual labour and working under the sun, therefore you must be feared because you might be a criminal.
iremember la I’m half white and Filipino born and raised in the USA 🇺🇸 and I have been bullied all my life by pure Filipinos American Filipinos and Asians in general and white people are worse... I was never welcomed into anything... or culture wise so I always hanged out by myself... people that are not half Filipino don’t know how much hell we have to put up with... Filipinos in the Philippines are brainwashed to think half Filipino get treated in royalty when in reality we get bullied and get excluded from the Filipino race
@@51844mj Did white people bully you in the USA growing up? Thats surprising, many other Asians in the US dont report being bullied. Casual racism is pretty normal in most Asian countries. Casual racism is rare in western countries.
tubester4567 ...I've heard countless stories of Asian kids being bullied for their race in the USA. I think the state plays a big part. but honestly, I've been on the receiving end of racism in China town in my own country. I think the majority of the general human race holds prejudice against other races deep down. it's manifested in different ways, but still there.
look at that girl smiling all the time, even while describing all that she had gone through, if you read this, you awesome girl! You will become very successful
Many filipinos do that normally. smiling and laughing a lot and saying kaya and that they can do it. might really just be a thing here for some of us but might also be a recent trend to just laugh and smile things away. people tend to add extra hahahas, lols, and emojis here to lighten the mood.
@@xXxSkyViperxXx Yeah, it's quite common in the Philippines to smile while saying something sad or talking about grim things, it's a coping mechanism. A few other asian countries do this as well. That's why people "smile sadly" in stories.
She has lighter skin than me... I think her being half and bullied was over emphasized... every dark girl have been through bullying, I was even called charcoal once, but just laugh it off, I find it funny, and she found it too much...
I'm half japanese half filipino and I can vouch for this 100%. You will be treated differently. The thing is Filipinos won't consider you truly filipino and my japanese side won't either so I'm stuck in a weird place of being a hybrid. Also people will automatically think that you're rich for some reason. One time I applied for a government ID and I was interrogated if I'm really a Filipino citizen. I had to supply additional files to back up my claim which is insane 😑
I have cousins who are half Japanese but we never treat them any differently. I guess it will always have to do with the upbringing of the certain person. They identify themselves as Japanese and we respect that but we never treated them in a very different way just like everybody else. Our family treat them the way they treat everybody else in the family. One thing that makes it this way is that one way or another, whether they are born in Japan or not, they still have some of our family blood that runs through them. When you are a family or becomes too close in our family then you will be treated how we treat each other, with love and respect. I love them because they teach me everything about Japanese culture and I teach them our culture as well. If people have been raised as appreciative and open-minded in accepting differences and understanding them, then no one will have to be treated differently. We too are of Spanish descent but we were never treated differently.

@@Shadow19939 whoa whoa holdup there superior intelligent intelectual smarty boy. You still living in the 18th century? Just to keep you updated, the whole world has moved away from those times.
Thank you for making this video. It hit home for me. I am half black and half Filipino who experienced bullying for 24 years growing up in the Philippines. I'm going back to the Philippines in April. I wish for better experiences. I miss the Philippines.
Well done for finding such intelligent, insightful ladies to interview. Both beautiful in their own way, inside and out. My heart goes out to the half-Nigerian girl - her childhood experiences sound so painful! It's amazing how she still grew to be such a kind soul. I really hope her society improves in the future and that she finds acceptance for herself and her potential future generations in the place that they love and consider home.
I am full Filipino, but I definitely have experienced discrimination by my elementary classmates for having a deep or morena complexion. I have an inferiority complex growing up and it reflects in my attitude also. So definitely, I empathize with the half-Nigerian lady. And I feel sad that there is a lack of representation for morena people in the entertainment industry, it affects a lot of young people on how they feel about themselves. This is a sad scenario in the Philippines.
Jenine Claire Bo I just realized that all the mixed celebrities we have are half western or asian but I cannot think of 1 successful actress who is half black and made it big in the Philippines. Wilma Doesn’t is half I think but she is more like a comedian and not leading lady material who are considered by most Filipinos to be attractive. Sad...

Also mixed arabic states are racist toward blacks, same goes for Hispanic countries, so this has nothing to do with homogeneous societies PS : Philippines is very mixed country. And this has nothing to do with colonialism because also black countries can be racist toward other groups including Asians.
Moist Von Lipwig "If you're dark skinned, you must be poor, or thuggish, because you're skin has darkened since you've spent a lot of days doing manual labour and working under the sun, therefore you must be feared because you might be a criminal."......That is an intentional way of thinking. it's ironic that the pinoys discriminate against the half nigerian girl since some 'pure' pinoys are darker than her. heck, no filipino is 'pure' at this point anyway.
Most Filipinos are pure Malay. 99% of Filipinos are monogloid Asian and have no Spanish blood. Only about 1% of the population in the Philippines has Spanish blood mostly in very small degrees
Racoon City Gelo True and some boost their ego by claiming they have Spanish descent when in reality only about 5-15% of the ppl there have that and most pinoys were forced to change/have their last name into Spanish during colonial rule whether they have Spanish genes or not
Dark people get discriminated a lot, especially when you're a child... But it changes as you get older... she's fairer than many Filipino, she's in Philippines and keep saying the N word like it's racist word for us when it's how you call dark people in general... Why are people saying one of the girls is prettier than the other? They're both beautiful! Saying one is prettier than the other is not going to solve the problem, it will exacerbate it.
@@angel-md8ge but the half nigerian one IS prettier we can't pretend that we can;t see this. The half white pinay isn't not prettier than the every pinay , all she's got going for her is white skin , which we know filipinos crazy adore regardless of the fact that one might be plain looking

This girl is Filipina, why are the comments explaining what negra is in the Philippines as if she doesnt know. Obviously she is speaking from her experience about when the word was used in a negative connotation or in a way to make her feel less Filipina and she was able to recognize it. Sometimes we should just listen to people and their experiences and stop making it about our selves. Also People need to stop being cute with that word negra yes it means what it means but we all know even words that mean simple things can easily be made into insults especially those involving race.
CUTIE wiggles but you’re not of a black descent, so stop trying to justify its usage because you will never understand. It is inappropriate to call out to a stranger as negra or negro. It’s like saying “ hey black man or hey black woman”. What the hell does that even mean?
I’m a Blasian Filipina and negra itself isn’t offensive but it’s the way they say it which is. Imagine being told “hey blackie!” Randomly while walking the street, sounds strange doesn’t it? They want to make her feel uncomfortable.
White men are seen as predators in some parts of Asia because of the tourists coming to have sex with girls and women but I agree being white is an advantage in some parts of Asia. It’s associated with being wealthy because of western media.
I'm half-korean and half-filipino, I am born in korea and have lived 13 years of my life here in the philippines (now I'm 23 years old). I kinda relate to some of these girls' story, but i don't really feel discriminated whilst staying here. A couple of times, yes. But not to the point that they go full-on ridiculing me. The korean influence in the ph actually makes my heart flutter. Having some korean touch on almost anything that I stumble upon. In tvs, ads, foods, and even our language. The hospitality and kindness is one of the reasons that I love it in here. Nakakapangpangiti sakin ang mga tao dito. :)
@half Nigerian-Filipino....Promise✋You are beautiful inside out. Stay kind and humble toward other Filipinos around you. You both are example and good influence to other children.😙😍🎵
To the blasian Filipina, YOU ARE JUST AS FILIPINO AS I AM, woman! Keep on being yourself, you represent us so well, because you are everything that is revered about being Filipina
A child is not born racist...for school kids not to play with another child because of their skin colour or call them names is sad 😭. Let's raise our children to be non-discriminative towards others. ✌
Yes, a child is usually curious about people that look different, but whether they react positive or negatively toward those people depends on influences from their family and environment. Children are very impressionable, so if they hear negative things about people that look a certain way, they may not question those ideas until much later in life.
Children aren’t born racist, but once they develop a sense of self, they may start to be. If not taught properly, it will over take them. This is not a common opinion these days, but I believe many Americans have grown up and put aside racist thoughts. I am Filipino and many older Filipinos are indeed prejudicial/racist in some form or fashion, it’s very common. I’ve managed to get out of any of those mindsets left over from the older generation simply by hanging out with people from all backgrounds. Living in Houston, it came very naturally, but I understand how homogenous cities may have a harder time.
I'm a tanned Northern Mindanao boy, and I got called "negro" a couple of times when i was a kid. 300 years of Spanish rule, and it's unfortunate that the SPANISH WORD for BLACK is negro. We even have a delicacy called Paella negra. Unlike the US, an african-filipino is a rarity, so rare that kids that get to see one has a hard time reacting. (Imagine a kindergarten of majority brown or fair skinned filipinos and then there's an african-filipino mixed in the pack) From what i saw in my own eyes, they (even our Aeta brothers in the North) are just being TEASED like a lot. I doesn't help that within our community even, kids tease other dark-skinned boys(like me) all the time. It just slowly disappears as you grow up though. You have to be a dumb adult or teenager to tease me for my skin :D
@ARE YOU KIRRING ME IDIAH What? People will always be treated differently because of how they look. It IS natural and normal; because no two individuals are ever going to look exactly alike. Even YOU will treat people differently based on differences in looks. They problem IS NOT in the difference of treatment based on difference in looks. A malnourished-looking child, say, will be given more food that a well-nourished one? The problem is the ignorance and especially ILL-WILL that accompany the difference in treatment.
@@marylandman12 Diversity is a pipedream, does nobody understand heirarchy? including heirarchy of ideas? there is always one ruling way of thought in a society on various issues, most notably law, what happens if lets say we take Britain and change their population to 70% Pakistani, with the overwhelming source of ideas of right and wrong being of the Quran, what happens to English common law as per democracy? it ceases to exist in its form, it's called the paradox of tolerance, when you tolerate the intolerant, the intolerant overthrow you and remove the mechanisms in which the society was previously tolerant. Do people honestly think two clashing ideas can cease to clash just from physical space? western european thought "we can insult the god's without fear of punishment", Muslim nations school of thought "blaspemy is a crime with severe often fatal punishment", these can exist together now? no of course not, what makes you think that when these countries become flooded with the third world like they already have and the scales tip mathematically, that they will still be the same? right now the majority wins, but what when they are not the majority? If we take all native Brits from britain and replace them with Asians, is it still Britain or just in name only? my point is nobody is treated equally and various levels, it's not even racial at all, the majority is favoured, what people even call 'white privledge' is just majority priviledge, because it's a western idea and woah wouldn't you know it...it's mainly white people living there so they're the majority, "oh but it would never happen we would stop barbaric Islamic ideas fro.." wrong, that's only possible when you're the majority and hold the positions of government power, which wouldn't be the case in a flipped situation. Demographics is destiny.
The Filipino race is the most diversed. Historically, the Philippines was colonized by many countries so generally speaking, Filipinos are of mixed race (be it of Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, American, Malay). Presently, anywhere in the world you go, you can find a Filipino married to a local. So you cannot really specify what a Filipino looks like.
Robin Hood how doyouknow they are racist? just by two half breed person telling their personal experiences? I bet philippines is still more accepting for half breeds irregardless of what their half ethnicity is compared to other countries especially in asia.
Your statement is a bit misleading. The Filipinos are diverse, but not to the extent you're claiming. Filipinos are overwhelmingly of Malay stock with a large percentage of Chinese mixed in, and thats about it. There is a significant number of mixed European/American as well as with other Asian races like Korean and Japanese with Filipinos but its not that big compared to the population as a whole. You make it seem like every Filipino you come across will be a mix of all those nationalities, when in reality thats not true at all. Maybe less than 10% of Filipinos will be mixed with all kinds of other races mainly other Asians and another 30% mixed with Chinese blood.
Filipinos are *ethnically* diverse almost homogenous, not racially one. It is estimated that 10% of Filipinos have Chinese ancestry and only about 3% have European mix with about 1% being mixed with others. Admit it that we are mostly 99% of Austronesian stock. Half Filipinos are simply over represented in the entertainment industry giving us the impression of being racially diverse.
@@stuka80 Totally Agree with you, we are of various southeast Asian and east Asian ancestries (for me personally, I'm 2/5ths Malayo-Polynesian, 2/5ths Southern European, and a 1/6 or 1/8 Chinese but I'm just Filipino) Not everyone is mixed and there is always a certain psychic characteristic pinoys know when they know someone who is a Filipino.
I am surprised the African mixed one has not resented humanity because of that. @@franciscovilcheavila960 I wouldn't say discrimination, but people just treat you like a foreigner. I've never had a rude experience because of being mixed race here, but you're not going to get *should I say a feeling of camaraderie with them, because they don't feel like you belong with them. And I'm not offended by that, as you grow older, you accept that you're different from your relatives, your fellow kababayans, and I feel like it's up to the person to decide how they're going to handle their mixed identity, and whether they'll make the best out of it.
@@jinnieliv Actually is discrimination because they put you aside for the way you look and making a separation and treating you different and put a barrier when they interact with you.
A lot of the things they said are a reality for half-Filipinos. I am Korean-Filipino and growing up, I had some difficulty relating with some of my classmates and friends because of cultural differences. And I always remembered being annoyed because people around me always thought I was rich and would always ask me to treat them. As for racist comments, Filipinos tend to make jokes that are insensitive and tend to cross the line. One of my classmates in highschool even said “Go back to Korea” as a joke and would always ask me stupid questions about Korea. But in their credit, they always tried to bridge that cultural boundary and would be specially friendly. Something that I am proud of to be a Korean-Filipino.
If your are caucasian mixed you will definitely garner a lot more respect and be viewed a lot more "beautiful" in general from my experience growing up. I had good friend of mine who is filipino/german and my filipino relatives always viewed him quite positively. In fact, I remember growing up and being told to marry another filipino, but they would also be fine if they were "white". The real ignorant people are those who comment essentialist remarks like "Filipinos are racists" or whatever. Historical and social contexts play a role in the dynamics of every society. In order to change prejudices, we must understand their historical and social roots instead of just demonizing those who have a propensity for them.
generally ok, at least we are not treated as bad as the chinese in indonesia and malaysia. though some filipinos still dont accept or are ignorant that we are not foreign in this country. also a japanese-filipino schoolmate says he is often mistaken as a chinese-filipino and he finds it hard to understand implicit japanese cultural norms when he is in japan. funny tho, sometimes people also mistake me for being a japanese or korean
Half-Chinese here. I remember when I was in elementary and high school, I was studying in a chinese school, and I remember being insulted by random kids outside the school, like kids from neighboring schools, and they were calling me, and my other schoolmates, “intsik beho” or similar stuff. It used to get to my nerves a lot when I was a kid, but now I don't. The insult doesn't even make sense. If I let people make me feel bad about myself/ my own looks, how would I ever succeed in life?
I'm really happy to see a video like this. Living in Asia for more than half my life. I relate completely to them. This happens to me all the time. So it's nice to see, some actual coverage on it. 👍
@Quench Gamer TV I see. That makes a lot of sense. I though he was saying that he's a half filipino so he got the same experience. However, I think being completely white is a very different experience - emotionally. At least he IS an outsider. The half-pinay girl is pinay herself but isn't treated like one. The feeling of being isolated will affect them differently.
@@jellyrolly While I agree with you. For myself it's hard because I'm white. Living in the same country for a longer amount of time then where I'm actually from. @@jellyrolly Well I didn't make the choice to be in that country. Just as she didn't choose to be born in the Philippines. So it doesn't matter what your situation is. Her family could move. It doesn't matter. The point is how people treat each other. 🤔
Growing up in Canada (Toronto) I lived in a predominantly Filipino neighbourhood a lot of them were very rude towards anyone who didn’t look like them, wether it was different skin color, or physical differences (parents and kids alike) They weren’t afraid to let you know you were different to them they loved to ridicule anyone who wasn’t Filipino. Me being Mexican I didn’t get it because I would see a lot of similarities between our cultures and I know now it’s because of our heritage with Spanish colonization. But man did I not trust Filipinos for the longest time after that because they judged me so harshly and I know that’s horrible for me to say now because I moved to another city here in Canada and anyone who is filipino is so nice. That was just my personal experience growing up in that area, I know now as an adult that it was just a small group and not everyone is the same.
4N63L1C4 That's different for me. I like in a dominant Mexican neighborhood in Southern California and they just categorize me with The Vietnamese. Honestly the root of the problem isn't race its minority over majority. If those filpinos went to a school in the south where the population is predominantly white, they'll get segregated and receive prejudice.
BTS ON BILLBOARD I totally understand where you’re coming from, it’s really weird how people still can’t understand the reality of being mixed. Not to mention segregating people for being born mixed. In the end we’re all human and it’s crazy that as humans we still put people into categories. You’d think after years of evolution we’d drop the whole mob mentality like a pack of wild animals just shunning anyone who looks different and just be okay with everyone’s existence.
Elizabeth Torren I know what you mean especially in the U.S people like to split into their own groups, same thing in Toronto, it being the biggest city in Canada and honestly being the most American like city here. Each ethnicity sticks to their own. Which is crazy because everywhere else here everyone is just coexisting, I mean my neighbours are all different ethnicities from Ukrainian, Arabic, Asian, White, Black and many more and we all live together and respect each other I still don’t get why other places don’t learn from that! We’re supposed to be melting pot countries but turns out that’s a lie.
At 7:16 the dumbest question is asked. If someone calls you the N word out of their mouth it is INTENTIONAL.....How could it be an accident? The interviewer wants to take the blame off some of the racist people in the Philipines
Yah Girl are you Filipino? Growing up for me in the Philippines the “N” word wasnt emphasized anywhere that it was deregatory. We didn’t learn that. Not like today’s generation where information is readily available thru social media. Besides (Negritos) is an ethnic group here in the Philippines that are dark skinned with curly hair. That’s why commonly negros/negritos is just usually associated to dark skinned people. Some doesn’t really say it in a bad way just because they don’t know it’s a rascist remark.
Yah Girl Well, Filipinos are mocked as “monkeys” generally as well not just half-black ones. I know this because I am Filipino. Discrimination usually comes from the west or from east asians. There’s a lot to learn from. I know ignorance is not and will never be acceptable as an excuse. BUT there are A LOT of people who do not have access to information. Many are not educated. Specially older generations where international matters weren’t really as discussed as it is now. It may get better in the future or it may not. Tolerance to these problems are not solutions. Education is. I get your point. But instead of bashing the interview questions, why not start educating people thru your comments.
@@nikking05 I get it. I just hate when interviewers ask questions like "do you forgive your bully ?"or "do you think he meant to hit you when he was driving drunk?" Do you think they intentionally called you a ******?" What the point in that?
"Negro"/"Negra" in the Philippines is not a racial slur. The words are Spanish originally. They mean "black" and is used in exactly the same way as "black" is used in the US. The word is also used in Latin America and Spain with no negative connotations, unlike in the US. "N***er" however _is_ derogatory, but given that the Philippines has no history of African slavery, it's merely a "borrowed" slang street kids get from American movies and hiphop culture. They have no idea about the history behind that word. Merely that it's something white Americans seem to like calling black people to make them mad. So they do it. Kids are cruel that way. Adult Filipinos (generally) do not do that. Because most people _are_ aware of racism in the US, and there are a few half-black celebrities in the Philippines (Jaya, apl.d.ap, etc.). Plus the general non-confrontational culture of the Philippines. In contrast to China for instance where grown-ass people will literally touch your skin to see if the color comes off, or people will run away when they see a black person, because they have very little knowledge of what goes on in western countries. She's a Filipino who grew up in the Philippines. Her own perceptions are that of Filipinos, not of Black Americans, hence why she doesn't really get that angry about it. It's no worse than being teased by other kids for being fat or being poor, etc. It's sad, but it's really not a racial thing. There is no malevolent intent behind the words, in contrast to when you hear it in the US. It's just kids being cruel to kids who look different.
I got called the N word by some kids running by while I was visiting in Manila (that's me in the profile pic) and those street kids were more tanned than me. I was surprised more than anything, not offended. I don't think they meant it the same way like it's meant here in the US. I think it's more of a music/media/movies influence
Not mixed but no one guesses my ethnicity correctly, and when I tell them people say “But you don’t look ___” which made me very self conscious but I’ve learned to accept it. We’re all unique in our own ways and should appreciate our differences :)
I know my ancestors came from different parts of the globe and both my parents are Mexican. Yes i can technically say no I'm not mix but I dont look 100% Mexican. Strangers always think I'm half Asian with some white. Or asian or slavic. But I just say I'm not mix and just Mexican. It can turn into some sort of interrogation which can become uncomfortable for me since it's strangers asking so much. 😖😔😓
@Random 94 it's the phenotype that gives us our looks. The dominant gene will express itself as the phenotype . The 1% you are talking about-which really is more than 1%- is more like blue eyes expressing itself when both parents have brown eyes. In that case blue eyes are the recessive genes but if both parents carry that recessive gene and they both come together then the child will have blue eyes, where the dominant gene is not expressed.
Don't worry, I'm also not mixed. I'm fully at least82% Filipino and rest Chinese, but I'm Filipino. People sometime defined me as something else like Chinese, Korean, but I wonder why. Ome time I was with a friend, we were talking on internet with a random stranger, that person defined my friend as an Indian (he's also Filipino) and me as a Korea, totally mind blowing and very strange. Only someone have guessed my ethnicity correctly, but I'm proud Filipino and I would like to be more recognized as one. 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
7Nexus21 She looks more like someone from South/Central America than Chinese. A lot of native looking Filipinos have heavy South Chinese features, especially the noses and brow ridge. I am racially ambiguous myself and I stand out like a sore thumb in a crowd of Filipinos, Chinese and pretty much any Asian group that I have interacted with. There are certainly strong phenotypes leftover in some of our genes that came from an unknown foreign source, it could historically be the Spaniards and Latin Americans or the very recent Americans and countless other visitors or migrants to the country.
And yet if the half black girl was in Africa she would considered beautiful for being light skinned but also teased for it. At the end of the day people want what they don’t have.
She won't be considered a light-skinned Nigerian. A lot of fully Nigerian people have her colour. She would be considered completely one of us until she speaks and we hear a different accent.
I don’t see this light skin that you are talking about. Contrary to the popular stereotype that all Africans are dark skin, there are many much lighter than her.
Both women are very beautiful and intelligent, and both are very polite and well-educated, and spoke with honesty about their experience. They both have bright futures ahead 😍.
i love the way her (half african - filipino) speak, very calm, slow, clear, full of smile. her attitude is great. i send virtual hug from indonesia to you
I'm half filipina half italian, born and raised in Italy, and people often tell me I'm as beautiful as my mom. No bullies at all my whole life (I'm 30 yo). I'm very lucky and grateful!
Having went to elementary & high school in the Philippines, I can say the generally, the half white filipinos are always considered beautiful and almost everyone is fascinated about them. It is true that a lot of filipinos [unfortunately] consider a whiter/paler complexion as beautiful and clean, while a darker complexion would be considered as "ugly" and "dirty." I remember back in elementary when there was this darker Indian kid in the lower year who was bullied because of her skin colour. Other students (even high school kids!!!) would call her stinky, and would make fun of her name. I never understood this because she actually smelled okay. Whereas on the other hand, when we had a half-white transfer student, everyone wanted to be her friend and always complimented her. I remember my JS prom partner even wanted to ditch me for her (yup. bad memories for me lol). I usually hear stories from Japan/Korea that halfers get bullied because they look different from a typical Japanese/Korean. But in the philippines, it's completely opposite!! In fact, if you look like a general filipino (dark skin, flat nose, short, etc), you get made fun of!! In your OWN country!! I wish filipinos would embrace the darker skin colour because it's a part of our ancestry.
Please do more of these! I am of the mixed raced asian community in NYC. And these stories and experiences need to be told and heard. I'm very interested in more of these and asking folks in other asian countries their opinions of mixed raced people
I can't understand why my fellow filipinos claim that we're a mixed race. Like wtf? Filipinos in general look AUSTRONESIANS like Malaysians and Indonesians that's why some of our words in tagalog have similarities in their language. COLONIAL MENTALITY at it's finest. We are ETHNICALLY DIVERSE NOT RACIALLY DIVERSE deal with it.
Random 94 I said filipinos in GENERAL. Ask yourself why is it that most filipinos claim they're mix especially in spanish while in fact they aren't? Even if you have one most filipinos that have spanish/iberian dna only have 1-4% in them which is actually negligible. Accept it that we are asians(southeast asians) in general there is nothing wrong with it.
Most of filipinos i know they claim having spanish roots which i dont see them or at least isnt obvious like in latin american. Filipino blood is quite strong my bf is half filipino and half white and my ppl think he is just a tall latino.
As a Filipino kid, I also had half-black classmates back then, they were always being teased and called "Negro/Baluga" in a demeaning way. I felt bad for them that's why I befriended them and made them feel comfortable with people in public, especially in school. I think it's the parents fault for not giving awareness to kids to respect other's ethnicity, even I am guilty of having such parents, because they think black people live in the mountains and are uncivilized. And yes, we also have black people in the Philippines and they usually live in the mountains, isolated, and separated from the rest of us.
As someone who’s half black half Filipino, I really appreciated this video. Even in America, colorism in the filipino community is strong, and I’m really happy that this video brought more of it into light for those who don’t think about it a lot.
There's still bloody colonial mentality in the Philippines from our former masters that we need to break off. We need a Filipino Malcolm X to free ourselves & express ourselves not to think were not beautiful if we are brown or beautiful if we were white but that regardless, Every human being including Pinoys are beautiful. Like its been known decades earlier to now, Black Is Beautiful and being Brown is Beautiful too.

People treat strangers differently even people from different parts of their own country. We are pre-programmed by nature to be comfortable around the familiar.
“Pinahirapan mo ako” isnt “you didn’t tell me” it actually translates to “You gave me a hard time” which means she gave the tagalog speaker a hard time trying to speak English when she can actually speak Tagalog. (Not the girl’s fault tho obvs)
ibang way ng pagsabi ng Pinahirapan moko eh, "Bakit hndi mo sinabing nagtatagalog ka pala napa english tuloy ako ang hirap ang mag english ah" .. so basically mas magegets ng ibang lahi ung thought na You didn't tell me kesa sa You gave me a hard time.. jusko kelangan explain talaga to?.. in short ..ni rephrase lang para mas magets ng ibang lahi ung pinaka ibig sbhin.. kaya tau hirap mag english din eh kasi pinipilit natin ung literal na translation..
I'm half Filipino as well, except I look mostly Filipino but can't speak Tagalog. It was very enlightening to watch this, and I can relate to some of their problems on some level.
@@robinhood7874 nobody said that, but in general, mixed people (of any race mixxed) tend to be more attractive than their parents. Their faces are more symmetrical and they often take the good traits from each race. No need to be salty. I say that as a non mixed girl.
I literally watch the story of my life. To the half black girl, Im half black too. I've been through a lot of racism over here to, but it gets better. You are so beautiful inside and out!! Hope to be friends with ya girl.💚

Not sure about their names (whos who?) so I'm gonna have to use their looks to describe them, but I loved what the darker lady said at the end. She seems very intelligent and well educated.
Both of them look Filipino passing tbh. If the half-white one kept her hair dark and the black girl get hair extensions they can easily blend in specially since they grow up in the culture with mannerisms and accent of locals.
Oh my! if their ignorance could just fly, their levels could be like starships, we are humans, some Filipinos do have Chinese and Japanese blood mixed into their veins since Chinese and Japanese refugees and merchants during the medieval ages established communities and colonies and eventually interbred with the native populace, thus giving rise to the Sangley races in the Philippines. by the way, I am 1/8 Chinese, I got the Chinese blood from my mother's Sangley side.
There are also I believe quite a representable minorities of Indians and South Americans in the country, I’ve seen a Mexican woman and a Columbian man who’s had local spouses while I was growing up and their offsprings don’t really stand out, I also remember an African American girl who was adopted by some affluent Filipino family which reside around our area. There were also quite a number of Indians who are pretty deeply integrated in their communities. The biggest non Asian minorities I know of though are Americans. Just my experience though, I live in the more urbanized area so it might be a different case for a lot of other places.
Thank you for covering this!!! I’m a black Asian woman and growing up/ spending time in the Philippines was the best thing my mom could give me, exposure to her and my culture. But nobody could get me ready for the reactions to me and my sister being mixed. Both here and in the US! Sometimes kids were friendly, most of the time they were not. Thank you for showing the other side of what it is to be Filipino for people in between ❤️🇵🇭
The experience of growing up as half nigerian half filipino is also different if you went to private and public school. It's worse in public school, even Filipino teachers can be very racist towards black kids. The amount of ignorance is very high at least this was our experience growing up in the 90s 2000s in the ph. I haven't been home in the PH for almost a decade now, and I'm still struggling with the trauma that I went through as a child.
Nice to hear this point of view and perspective. Being black I can totally relate to alot of what was said. The Nigerian and Filipino is absolutely beautiful inside and out I admire her strength.
Would've been great to get first names. I hope the half Nigerian-Filipina would start her own channel if she hasn't already. She is so inspiring and positive. What a beautiful soul.
ok i paused the video just to comment that, the half african girl is soo cute and preety and she also has that humble sweet side to her personality that africans have. Africans are generally such sweet humble people and the way that girl talked was soo mature and in understanding way, she has my respect.
It was really sooo interesting ! Thank you ~ Honestly it’s almost the same in Africa . I’m mixed , I’m half Caucasian and half African and since my childhood (till now , I’m a teenager) I was treated differently . Even in the street , like when I go out with my family or my friends people will look at me/ us in the street or call me and my sisters « whities » . And I’m serious , here in Africa it’s different than in America , in Africa when your skin is lighter people will treat you more like a « white person » than a black one even if we are (for sure) not white lmao but it’s how it is . And just like in Asia , having a light skin is a beauty criteria, so sometimes when people tell me that I’m beautiful I feel really embarrassed because I don’t know if they say it because I’m biracial and my skin is lighter or just because I’m beautiful >< And just like the girl said , here too when you are half white ,people assume that you are rich lmao when it’s obviously not always the case ! It always happens to me when I go to the market with my mommy , they probably think « oh this black woman has a « Metisse »(a term used for biracial/multicultural people in French but used most of the time for half white/black) daughter so she probably has a rich white husband » and stuffs like that and they make us pay more And idk if people will read this comment till here haha but here the half black half Filipino girl would be treated just like a half white half Filipino in the Philippine because here her skin is light
Growing up half spanish in the province and looking more caucasian, I’ve had people raise prices for me in sari sari stores or street booths. And I get so many straight stares from people.

I would have loved to do this interview! I’m half Mexican and half Filipino, and I attended med school in Cebu and lived in the Philippines for a year. I also had both good and bad experiences there being mixed race.

"You're white, you're probably just a sex tourist or a rich well off backpacking globetrotter." If you're dark skinned, you must be poor, or thuggish, because you're skin has darkened since you've spent a lot of days doing manual labour and working under the sun, therefore you must be feared because you might be a criminal.

tubester4567 ...I've heard countless stories of Asian kids being bullied for their race in the USA. I think the state plays a big part. but honestly, I've been on the receiving end of racism in China town in my own country.
Agreed. It's only in the US that I felt I was left alone.

Diversity is a pipedream, does nobody understand heirarchy? including heirarchy of ideas? there is always one ruling way of thought in a society on various issues, most notably law, what happens if lets say we take Britain and change their population to 70% Pakistani, with the overwhelming source of ideas of right and wrong being of the Quran, what happens to English common law as per democracy? it ceases to exist in its form, it's called the paradox of tolerance, when you tolerate the intolerant, the intolerant overthrow you and remove the mechanisms in which the society was previously tolerant.

DIVERSE AND RACIST?

Not everyone is mixed and there is always a certain psychic characteristic pinoys know when they know someone who is a Filipino.

I applaud these two interviewees. They’re both grounded, smart and open minded.
As a half Filipino I’m pretty sure if you were white they wouldn’t care if you looked like them lol ...
Thats horrible. Im filipino and those people are idiots for sure.
@h.m Most filipinos have chinese ancestry. You already look like one. Typical normal filipinos look like malaysian or indonesian.

And yes, we also have black people in the Philippines and they usually live in the mountains, isolated, and separated from the rest of us.

the half Nigerian looks stunning aside from having good outlook in life she looks humble even what she's experience it makes her stronger .
Very Interesting topic.
VERY. BECAUSE I THINK IT IS A TABOO SUBJECT OVER THERE
@@robinhood7874 nah. it isn't. it's just that majority of the older generation and the kids xo not care about these kind of things. they'll brush it off and tell u it's either a joke or it's not of importance bc there are far more "important" things to focus on
I like the way how the half-Nigerian speaks. Her voice and manner of speaking is so calming.
But for me, the half-Nigerian one is quite prettier... who's with me?
Not sure about their names (whos who?) so I'm gonna have to use their looks to describe them, but I loved what the darker lady said at the end. She seems very intelligent and well educated.
The Negirian girl is very spontaneous and beautiful 👏👏👏
I know this is tramatic for young ones but just remember self love and love for others and the only factor for humans to live together.
Both of them look Filipino passing tbh. If the half-white one kept her hair dark and the black girl get hair extensions they can easily blend in specially since they grow up in the culture with mannerisms and accent of locals.
The half-african girl is so beautiful, I was thinking that troughout all the video!!!!!
Oh my! if their ignorance could just fly, their levels could be like starships, we are humans, some Filipinos do have Chinese and Japanese blood mixed into their veins since Chinese and Japanese refugees and merchants during the medieval ages established communities and colonies and eventually interbred with the native populace, thus giving rise to the Sangley races in the Philippines.
by the way, I am 1/8 Chinese, I got the Chinese blood from my mother's Sangley side.
Valor Warrior y
1/8=0
Valor Warrior We are Ninjas Filipino are Ninja
Oh, Girl, you're quite different because you're a goddess
and should not to be sullied by mortal touches
There are also I believe quite a representable minorities of Indians and South Americans in the country, I’ve seen a Mexican woman and a Columbian man who’s had local spouses while I was growing up and their offsprings don’t really stand out, I also remember an African American girl who was adopted by some affluent Filipino family which reside around our area. There were also quite a number of Indians who are pretty deeply integrated in their communities. The biggest non Asian minorities I know of though are Americans. Just my experience though, I live in the more urbanized area so it might be a different case for a lot of other places.
Great video. The subject is much more important than the quality(which wasn't bad).
The half morena girl is so well spoken. Her parents raised her very well. In addition, she is gorgeous.
The half Filipino Nigerian is pretty and I love hearing her voice
Would've been great to get first names. I hope the half Nigerian-Filipina would start her own channel if she hasn't already. She is so inspiring and positive. What a beautiful soul.
Philippines ppl are one of the sweetest ppl i know i have many friends from Philippine
ok i paused the video just to comment that, the half african girl is soo cute and preety and she also has that humble sweet side to her personality that africans have. Africans are generally such sweet humble people and the way that girl talked was soo mature and in understanding way, she has my respect.
2:28 Actually this is kind of true, there's a correlation between beauty and social success.
It was really sooo interesting ! Thank you ~
Honestly it’s almost the same in Africa . And just like in Asia , having a light skin is a beauty criteria, so sometimes when people tell me that I’m beautiful I feel really embarrassed because I don’t know if they say it because I’m biracial and my skin is lighter or just because I’m beautiful ><
And just like the girl said , here too when you are half white ,people assume that you are rich lmao when it’s obviously not always the case ! It always happens to me when I go to the market with my mommy , they probably think « oh this black woman has a « Metisse »(a term used for biracial/multicultural people in French but used most of the time for half white/black) daughter so she probably has a rich white husband » and stuffs like that and they make us pay more
And idk if people will read this comment till here haha but here the half black half Filipino girl would be treated just like a half white half Filipino in the Philippine because here her skin is light
Growing up half spanish in the province and looking more caucasian, I’ve had people raise prices for me in sari sari stores or street booths. And I get so many straight stares from people.
are you one of those with the more bushy eyebrows and more pale? i always wonder if the people i see walking around universities like ateneo and lasalle that have those characteristics are the ones with real historical spanish or mexican blood
Are you richer than your peers?
I would have loved to do this interview! I’m half Mexican and half Filipino, and I attended med school in Cebu and lived in the Philippines for a year. I also had both good and bad experiences there being mixed race.
Half Dutch American and half Filipino Spanish!! 💜💜💜💁🏻♀️
I love this so much. Beautiful interview, the juxtaposition was brilliant. Sending you love half black girl💕
