  • UNC Health is requesting outside investigations due to a possible pattern of cancer diagnoses inside a UNC Hospitals lab. UNC Health confirms a possible pattern of cancer diagnoses of current and former teammates at McLendon Clinical Laboratories, a laboratory on the first floor of the main hospital that analyzes blood and tissue samples and performs other pathology tests. UNC Health is reaching out to both current and former McLendon Clinical Laboratories teammates. UNC Health has not confirmed the number of cases of cancer there are in people who spent time at McLendon Laboratories.
A spokesperson for UNC Health estimates that more than 1,000 employees have worked in the lab during the past two decades. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers any unusual pattern of cancer a cancer cluster.
In light of the reports of cancer, UNC Hospitals contacted the state Department of Health and Human Services. The NCDHHS visited McLendon Clinical Laboratories on Jan. 23 for an initial assessment, according to UNC Health.
UNC Health also confirms the National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety will conduct a health hazard assessment, which, according to the CDC's website, "helps employees, unions and employers learn whether health hazards are present at their workplace and recommends ways to reduce hazards and prevent work-related illness."
UNC expects a full report from the NCDHHHS to be completed by the end of February. UNC Health does not have access to staff or student medical records and said sharing health information is voluntary.
A statement from UNC Health reads in part: "We know that this news may be unsettling to you and your colleagues, and we are committed to being proactive and transparent during this evaluation, answering questions as more details are available and supporting you and your families."
A dedicated, secure phone line and email address were created for questions or to share concerns. People can call 984-974-4870 to leave a message or email labassessment@unchealth.unc.edu.

They probably all had jabs on the same day, same batch, a bad batch. There’s a place online where you can check batch numbers for this. Maybe they should do that and be transparent about it.

I thought people entered the hospital to get better. These people are now dying. So, in this case, the doctor didn't murder people the building did.
