I never get when people complain about kids wanting to be TH-camrs. When I was young, every kid wanted to a soccer player or a movie star. When thinking of a dream job, kids tend to pick jobs that they see as fun.
But as we get older, we become more realistic. By the time we were in high school, most kids had picked a more realistic career path. Its the same thing nowadays as well, as a larger percent of kids are getting STEM degrees than ever before and attending college in general than ever before.
"More than half of Gen Zers want to be full time influencers" HAS to be a straight up lie lmao unless the question asked was something like "Would you like to become a famous and successful influencer?"
I wouldnt be surprised tbh, I was a teacher for a while and youtuber and related fields was definitely the top job you'd get if you asked teenagers what they wanna be anymore.
@@soasertsus I mean I could mayybe believe it for gen Alpha, but Gen Z is 12-27 year olds now, more than half of them are adults, many out of school. Most of them for sure grew out of the influencer dream, just like they used to grow out of wanting to be a musician or actor I'm sure.
Being an influencer basically just means you can make money doing whatever you like doing. If I could make TH-cam videos doing whatever I enjoy doing then hell yeah my dream is to be an influencer.
The problem with this statistic is that basically everyone wants to do what makes them happy and make a living from it, and at its basis, that is what being a content creator/influencer is. If I was given a list of everything that I could be when I grow up, something where I: do something I love, make my own hours, have creative freedom, am able to make lucrative amounts of money (granted that this rhetorical influencer question has me being successful), and will be just like the people that I watch and look up to, I would probably pick it. People in Gen Z will likely choose other professions and have different aspirations but when it comes to the brass tax, if given a questionnaire and given a choice, it makes a lot of sense why people would want the job. Even if someone desperately wants to be like an accountant or something, being a content creator on accounting is more appealing. Anyways, I don’t know why I wrote this all out 🫡

As a tax accountant I'm always attentive of when people use tax accounting as the butt of a "job nobody wants to do" or "boring people job" joke, and boy is it often. It's like the go-to, can we try to shit on bankers or finance people more instead? Kthx
I mean, it's not hard to see why. People find doing taxes to be tedious, they pay accountants to do it for them, accountants are then paid to do for eight hours a day what most people find tedious to do once in a while. Bankers provide a service that's pretty unique while finance people provide a service that relies on a skillset most people don't have, or don't consider themselves to have.
I've heard that taxes do not have to be as complicated as they are and have been kept complicated by lobbying by turbotax and hr block, is this true?

People who make fun of tax accountants don't know what that means. It's more fun than banking and being a paralegal for sure.
@@kaseyquickshot532 I'm in corporate tax so I can't speak about other areas, but consider the fact that major tax laws like the TCJA are written up by politicians who don't know fuck all about accounting. So yeah it ends up being a mess with a ton of different rules tacked on. Also nobody in the government cares enough so they don't get updates when they should, like the Section 174 change in 2022 that neither dems or repubs liked but they didn't repeal it and it caused a shit ton of extra work for us.
Ever heard of the ERC credit and how it's a massive scam? Well a bill went to Senate that would've gotten rid of it, but oh whoopsie it went into limbo and didn't get passed. I dunno if that's due to lobbying or just political pettyness/laziness, but it makes our lives worse

Nah I think journalism can sound cool. You are the only thing that's stopping the truth from being hidden. You go across the world to see what "they" want to hide from society, but you expose what's really happening to the world. It's a dangerous but rewarding job.

There were a lot of cartoon characters and kids book protagonists who were the "intrepid reporter" who unveiled the truth and took down 'the man'. Outside of being a full time PI, journalist was the main profession of mystery and crime genre main characters. Spider-man and Superman both worked at newspapers (Spider-man did 'investigative photography' more than reporting, but Mary Jane is a journalist), April O'Niel is a reporter. There were definitely a bunch of 80s and 90s kids at very least who wanted to be journalists.

Kids want to be what they are exposed to. Kids wanted to be astronauts in the 60's because thats what they are exposed to all the time. Its the same reason people want to be actors and musicians. Kids are just exposed to influencer and content creators.
The only AI influencer I actually fuck with is that AI vtuber, but that's only because the guy who created her is also on stream and is the actual influencer. I think they're called "Neuro" or something?
The reality is a large portion of influencers space has become more and more generic, fake and robotic for years. Making this transition easier and easier. For when one is reduced to perform to a sell product, you become far easier to replicate.

Man I have a channel with like 50 subs, upload a few times a year and I have had like 2 vids in the past 2 years that just got randomly 1k+ vids.
The videos are a bit mid, but they just had good titles and found its audience and it like amazes me Everytime.
Really just shows how powerful youtube is
When I first uploaded videos most of them had about 30 views, but a couple of them got a few 3-5k views, which was very odd because the ones I put the most time into were the ones that didn't get any views.

I worked as the IT director of a 800 student private school. I made $25/hr to play stardew valley and reset chromebooks. Best job i ever had.
