It is not just you. I believe that the original artwork for Solid Snake in "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake" and for Big Boss were based on Mel Gibson and on Sean Connery, respectively. I think the original artwork for Solid Snake in "Metal Gear" was based on Michael Biehn, the man who played Kyle Reese in the 1984 film, "The Terminator."
@@eboymirage2567No wonder why in the remastered editions of this game they removed those 80s action movie-like portraits and replaced them with more Seinen manga/anime looking ones closer to the design the characters have since the Metal Gear Solid series.
this song just has engraved in my brain. gray fox is so hard for me and sometimes i have to risk it just to beat him, good thing i have beat him, it just took a lot of loading up quicksaves...
I think you'll find that under "Mechanic." Though thechosen2010's version does seem a bit more closely tied to the Hind D battle, the main piece is the same for both fights.
@thechosen2010 And if you think about it, it does make sense in context as well. If you pardon the pun, these guys basically tried to BOX Snake in the elevator.
@Ragnell789 Well at the time of MG2's release their portraits were made to look like them. However Snake doesn't look like as much as Gibson as opposed to Big Boss and Connery
@Ragnell789 Well you're right about sean connery is the artwork piece of big boss, although snake's was based on sylvester stallone from the "rambo" saga.
I think they thought that Ultrabox sounded far to specific. As if those guys only did elevator assassinations or something. Four Horsemen doesn't really sound better but it gives the sense of danger and it doesn't tie them into anything specific.
I hated the character designs in this game. I know they were trying for them to look like movie stars, but their so hideously in the uncanny valley. I prefer the Ps2's designs. Still the best Metal Gear game ever though :D
@CtrlAltCorrupt Really? I still giggle to myself everday that Grey Fox looks like a half black mercenary and looks kind of manly and today like in portable ops he looks like a blond skinny teenager. Not that I have a problem with today's design but I just find it interesting to see how much they look like to the aforementioned movie star.
Big Boss: You're forgetting one very basic thing. You don't have what it takes to kill me.
@Henrique Santos de Freitas big boss: that's... thats my line...
Solid snake: my line now

OVER HERE-Here-here!
Raiden: Big Boss... I KNEW I should have killed you!
From the Metal Gear Raiden parody included with the Subsistence version of MGS3
"you...you used my speed against me"
"guess you weren't fast enough"

Dr. Madnar's potrait is based off of Albert Einstein
I know like 14 years late but they literally copied them and then they put the photos into software to turn it into the portraits

0:38 Is when it starts getting good!!!
0:04 is when it gets good
The music at 0:35 plays when Snake and Gray Fox face each other in close combat.
Thats always the best part.
This beat is dope as hell!!
Ultra Box that was a great fight. Why isn't this song ever included in the more recent Metal Gear games?
Snake vs Gray Fox in the middle of a MineField.
this song just has engraved in my brain.

10k views are from me.
Me too, I loved the Codec theme so much before the Boss Fight I remade the track in FL Studio.
I think you'll find that under "Mechanic." Though thechosen2010's version does seem a bit more closely tied to the Hind D battle, the main piece is the same for both fights.
This should have been the alert theme.

Back in the days before hrnngg.
“Big Boss… you’re alive!?”

@datsome80 I think it was Tom Berenger. I think.
@OrckDorck Hell, i first played it on the ps2 where they are called the four horsemen and i still call them ultrabox.
xD
Yes, it was. It's been confirmed by Metal Gear Wiki.
its been deboonked by snopes
metal gear d looks so much like a battle mech (the legs)
that's... kind of what it is?
you know mech warror (battle tech)
Joey Ricktor not really but sure.
lemme guess, attack on titan
You recruit these type of mercenaries in mgs5 think about that
S rank combat units right?
I owned the nintendo metal gear as 9 year old but i never had the computer one
I liked this Codec track so much I remade it and uploaded a video. It is not the boss fight but the jingle before the boss fight.
@solidnoata no, he was based on sylvester stallone.
Lol Snake looked like Stallone in MG2 to me :)
I'd say more Mel Gibson
I think they thought that Ultrabox sounded far to specific. As if those guys only did elevator assassinations or something. Four Horsemen doesn't really sound better but it gives the sense of danger and it doesn't tie them into anything specific.
Ultra Box is a better name, I wish they hadn't changed it.

Considering Solid and Solid 2 were off shoots of this basic structure, absolutely. MG2 was a masterpiece.
Nah, it added realism to the game. Ps2 portraits are extremely cartoony.
Destroy the boss!
Yes lol.
