    You don't have to take the batteries out of the R6 battery grip to charge them. Just charge by using the USB C port on the R6. I actually use my EOS R Battery grip charger to do this. works every time!

      Yeah I mention that around the 4.50 mark.
      Not a huge fan of charging batteries via camera usbc port though! 😬

      @@JamesDelIs that a fire or a fragility issue (in camera charging)?

    • @JamesDel
      @JamesDel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I just don't trust that running electrical current through my camera body for hours on end would be very good. I'd rather just charge the batteries outside of the camera body, just personal preference.

      @@JamesDelthe USB C is a very safe charging standard, unlike the older technologies from the past (e.g. flimsy and prone to easily being damaged or overheated micro USB).
      Charging through camera body will be fine, don't worry too much mate.

    Sony A74 - Weekend festival - 2 days - 1 battery. 2,000ish photos. Video is the killer

    • @anthonymulcahy1166
      @anthonymulcahy1166 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also! - For sony, Vello make battery grips for 1/4 the price of Sony's branded grip and does the exact same job. Just feels cheap in your hands. Zero issues with it. Dont know if Canon do off brand grips but I recommend over the pricey brand name.

      That's incredible!! Yeah man, video and generally using the screen instead of the viewfinder is what gets me!

    I've only just purchased a grip for my EOS R and the option of charging it separately from the camera is probably its best new feature. I share your concerns about running electricity through the camera, so why Canon ditched the charger concept is bewildering. At least this one is solidly built, as they all tend to be.

    • @JamesDel
      @JamesDel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers for the comment, Michael, I agree with it being a solid build at least. It blows my mind there's no charging port on this newer version, they literally went backwards with that design choice. Baffling! 🙏🏻📸

    Wait until you use the canon rf 85mm or 24-70mm with the grip you will fell how heavy it is😂
    For me I only use battery grip when needed, It’s way too heavy for me

    Such an accurate video, battery life on these camera's is terrible when shooting 4K.
    I also think the overheating issue with this camera is truly absurd. After owning for 8 months, the over heating is just so frustrating!!!
    I would assume not much, but does this help at all with heating issues?

    • @JamesDel
      @JamesDel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've only ever had this camera overheat when shooting 4k in 90+ degree weather for 20+ minutes at a time. But with that said, I don't really shoot long clips usually. I doubt that the battery crip would play any part in overhearing issues but I haven't ran any tests either.

    I don’t know why the non existent USB-C port is any problem at all..
    U leave the grip on the R5/6 anyway and leave the batteries in there as well and then just plug the R5/6 with the USB-C and it all charges.. or doesn’t it?

    • @JamesDel
      @JamesDel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I read on the canon forum that it's not great for your camera body to leave it plugged in via USB for prolonged periods of time. I'll see if I can find that thread again

      Do you mean instead of using a battery grip? I sometimes do that too, depending on the shoot. When you couple the battery grip with a big lens it can be a real pain to carry around for long periods of time.

  • @ArcanePath360
    @ArcanePath360 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    An hour out of a battery before it dies to me is ridiculous. Especially if you do time-lapse. I'm not upgrading to mirrorless any time soon. This is a big no no, despite all the good things about it. I might just spend the money on a used 1DX at a fraction of the price. But I do have very specific needs

  • @rfh1234

    Ridiculous that i can't just plug the VG into my iMac and charge both batteries. Doing that with my Sony a9II right now. I do find however that I can plug the R5 grip into my MacBook pro and it will charge both batteries. Someone at Canon dropped the ball.
