Little known fact - if she hits a secret combination of buttons at once, it rips a hole in our reality. You can tell she's doing it when her music is simply otherworldly.

  • @tonygriffin_

One of Saiki's most interesting vocal performances, changing it up every few lines (hell, she goes from G3 to a Db3 at the start and keeps it even and strong and her smooth changes from first to second register are astounding. Miku should get a nod for her low to high harmony changes too. Then there's that whole Kanami pedalboard thing...oh, you've covered that! I was a bit surprised that the pedals all have English labels on them, not Japanese.

I'm only too happy to let the ladies take me to the Wonderland again and again. :)
For non-musicians like me, it was a very nice insight into the technical aspects that come into play in addition to guitar playing. As if Kanami's parts alone aren't exhausting enough, she also has to deal with something like that. And probably she also has the next song in her head at the same time. :) My admiration for her doesn't necessarily decrease with insights like these. 💘🤭
Thx as always and best Greetings!

Your guitarist/reviewer colleague Axe japan did a similar breakdown of Kanami's pedal board some time ago. It was equally large but from memory a different layout and more simple. Clearly she is evolving her pedal support. She did a good demo video for Morley pedals so she is fully conversant with the technology.

Excellent rundown and editing of your speech, Wave. It all makes for a clear, quick and entertaining way to get a ton of info on Kanami's extensive rig. BTW - it was Miku running those great atmospheric riffs. Since Dragon's, she been pulling some riffs off quite well. I'm hoping she's writing more of those runs and rhythm chords herself now.

    Two points:
    a. Kanami is simply amazing. She puts more thought into her tone than I could ever imagine.
    b. The beautiful thing about Band-Maid is that a person could randomly pick 5 songs and believe that they only do full tilt hard rock, but upon hearing a sixth song they do something stunningly wondrous like "Wonderland", "Page", "Daydreaming," or "About Us". The breadth and depth of their talent is breath taking.
I read a review of their ONLINE ACOUSTIC OKYU-JI where the reviewer referenced MTV's "Unplugged" and noted that many bands couldn't really pull it off: they just sounded boring, but not Band-Maid who were able to pull it off brilliantly. He said that Band-Maid was able to deconstruct each song and reassemble each of them back into a totally different piece, just as amazing as the original.
Kudos to Band-Maid for their lovingly crafted music.

Fantastic breakdown!!!! Love it. Thank you so much for sharing your time researching and preparing, and for your amazing expertise. I shall re-watch that video several times until I have her pedal board memorized.
I like the chat room comment that pointed out that with the pedal board's master box, it is difficult to know the underlying, specialized program. Reminds me of an airplane's cockpit flight control computer system box. Each cockpit box sends a signal to the FCCS (the master control box -- think of it as the CPU for the entire airplane's astronics), and the FCCS is programmed to react to the other boxes' signals sent to it. There is no way to know what the FCCS is doing without reading its specialized built-in software.
That was clever of you to locate the external boxes' lights to determine which "boxes" her "FCCS" activated. Kanami obviously had her entire system programmed to her liking, but it impresses me how she arrived at its settings. I'm guessing she works closely with a top-notch sound techie. Props to whomever that is, and as you pointed out for us, we know that they keep upgrading her platform as the B-M Prime set-up differs from that of her prior set-up photographed earlier.

Yes, that's Miku playing lead on the 2nd verse. It's kinda in the back of the mix. On their DAY OF MAID online Okyuji, you can clearly hear Miku's lead when they played Wonderland and it was refreshing to hear.
About Kanami's effect arsenal, she practically is a mad scientist. She said it in their collab stream with Herman Lee, Herman said she should meet Paul Reed Smith, the founder of PRS, that he's a guitar scientist and his mind is a genius and thinks differently, then Kanami replied she'd love to have a conversation with him since she is the same. Imagine that conversation.
