    One of the best come back albums after more than ten years between releases for me is Alice In Chains. It was 14 years between the final album with Layne (self titled) and come back album with Black Gives Away to Blue. Such a great album.

      It's amazing how William Duvall sounds like Layne Staley in some ways yet has his own distinctive voice. I also understand Layne's parents gave their blessing for AIC to continue and are very supportive, which is super sweet.

    I would put ABBA on the list with their 40 year wait between albums after The Visitors with Voyage.
    Black Sabbath had an 18 year wait between Forbidden and 13, but it was over 20 years between Ozzy Osbourne’s departure and then the proper comeback in 1999 and 14 years for a new album with Ozzy again after 35 years.
    And Busted, it was 13 years between albums from 2003 and 2016, after A Present For Everyone was released and it was Busted’s split in 2005, before returning in 2015 and Night Driver came out a year later and it’s amazing after so many years of waiting and speculating that it will never happen.
    Finally Take That split in 1996 after Robbie Williams left in 95 and Nobody Else was their last album for 11 years before coming back without Robbie for Beautiful World in 2006, and then after four years, Robbie Williams came back to the band for Progress in 2010, which I think is the best comeback for the band ever. And Gary Barlow also had 14 years between solo albums too from 1999 to 2013, and it was amazing too.

    • @rbarnett3200
      @rbarnett3200 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I celebrated the day Take That split up. Their shitty boyband crap was everywhere for a while in the 90's and it irritated the hell out of me....then Boyzone and East 17 came along and they wouldn't fuck off either. Followed closely by the least talented "band" in modern history, Spicegirls. There was so much awesome music in the 90's but people were conned into buying that boyband/girlband crap that all sounded the same. I'm sure Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams are decent people, but they ruined any respect I could ever have for them by being in Take That.

    • @lewiscarty5517
      @lewiscarty5517 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rbarnett3200 I respect your opinions on why you hate all the boy/girl band groups, but it doesn't mean that I don't dislike them, because I was bought up on their music before I started listening to other stuff, however, and I always followed Gary Barlow the most out of them all, however, Robbie's music has some really good stuff in his early career and he has lost it a bit now, but he reformed when his Christmas Album came out in my opinion, but I don't hate any of their music.

    • @rbarnett3200
      @rbarnett3200 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lewiscarty5517 I get that. I really don't judge people's music tastes. I was just saying they were the bane of my life when I was a teenager. I was listening to grunge, metal and hip-hop but if you ever wanted to see or hear that stuff you'd need MTV2. But the over saturation of boybands was just hateful at the time. I still have no idea why Spicegirls were ever popular though. Their breakthrough first single was garbage then, and it's garbage now. All their music was rubbish. I can appreciate the musicianship of Barlow and Williams though. They did actually write their own stuff, so fair play, it's just not to my taste.

    Swans went through this as well. After releasing their landmark 1996 album Soundtracks for the Blind, they did a farewell tour the next year (as seen on the live CD "Swans Are Dead"), broke up, and then got back together in 2010, releasing their comeback album "My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky" later that same year. While not their most exciting or unique album, it certainly helped get the creative juices flowing again for what would be to come out later, leading to the epic trilogy of 2-hour albums that is The Seer, To Be Kind and The Glowing Man, which would garner arguably the most critical and commercial success the band would ever see.

  • @luxfyre

    Failure is a good example. They formed in the 90s and released 3 albums, with their last being Fantastic Planet it 1996. Then they broke up, but 19 years later, in 2015, they released The Heart is a Monster. And they have been active again ever since, dropping two more albums after that.

  • @miserirken
    @miserirken 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    i saw people mentioning A Perfect Circle already (understandable, since Tool is here), so i'm gonna mention another post-hardcore pioneers a la At The Drive-In.
    Glassjaw took 15 years to release a new album, from Worship & Tribute(2002) to Material Control (2017). Though they released some EPs between those years (their best material might be the 2011 EPs Our Color Green and Coloring Book), so they weren't innactive per se.

    The band Hum, a bit more obscure compared to the ones in your list, had gone over 22 years before releasing another album with Inlet (2020) and Downward is Heavenward (1998). It's really impressive to see how strong of a comeback Inlet was considering the quality of the album and the fact that it's been over 2 decades since they released an album before that.

    First of all - thank you for the video. Next, I'd like to mention a few other bands that would suit this list.
    Alice in Chains - 14 years between self-titled and Black Gives Way to Blue
    L7 - 20 years between Slap/Happy and Scatter the Rats
    Stray Cats - 27 years between Choo Choo Hot Fish and 40
    The Stooges - 34 years between Raw Power and The Weirdness
    The Sonics - 48 (!!!) years between Introducing The Sonics and This Is The Sonics
    Death (proto-punk band from Detroit) - well, technically doesn't count since their debut was released in 2009, but it was recorded in 1975 and was unreleased for all those years. And their second full-length LP of new material (N.E.W.) came out in 2015, making in a 40 years gap. Even if you don't count it as suitable for this list, the story of this band is fascinating and I highly recommend you checking it out.

    HUM!! Please, if you do a Part II video, do yourself a favor and check out Illinois alt rockers, HUM, aka the most "seriously slept on" band of the 90s! You've said yourself before that you were interested in checking them out (that was a while ago, though). 22 years in between 'Downward is Heavenward' and 'Inlet!' Sadly, their drummer passed away, and they've always had a sturdy lineup, so idk if they'll record any more songs, much less albums. 😕

    In addition to Soundgarden, Stabbing Westward, A Perfect Circle, and Guns N' Roses (each of which I was going to mention but saw in the comments already), another one I would mention is the progressive rock band Porcupine Tree. They released their most recent album _The Incident_ in 2009. After touring for that finished up in 2010, they went on an indefinite hiatus, with each of the band members doing their own things over the 2010s-- drummer Gavin Harrison eventually joined up with the Pineapple Thief, and both bassist Colin Edwin and keyboardist Richard Barbieri worked on several projects over the course of the decade. Notably, though, it was vocalist/guitarist Steven Wilson's desire to focus on solo projects that really seemed to spell the end of the band; he released several notable solo albums in that time, and it seemed like he had decided that continuing Porcupine Tree would be a step backwards in his trajectory. And then, in November of last year, when everybody least expected it, the band dropped a bombshell on their fans by putting out a new single "Harridan" out of the blue, and announcing they had reformed (albeit, without Edwin) and were releasing a new album called _Closure/Continuation._ The album is finally due later this month, after 13 years of silence.

    I would say Blind Melon falls under this too, after splitting in 1995 following Shannon Hoon's death (RIP) they came back in 2006 to release another album in 2008 "For my Friends" with Travis Warren taking over. Then they just vanished for sometime before coming back with music 11 years later, the band are apparently to make a 4th album since they've released enough singles to be another album.
    If they do one then i'd probably be happy but who knows with it coming on and off over the years.

    Obscure late 80s/early 90s alt metal act Last Crack put out an astounding album in 1991 called Burning Time. Various pressures caused the lineup to splinter. Vocalist Buddo left and the band recruited another guy. An album of demos came out in 1994 or so, but then they vanished. Apparently in the 10s, Buddo rejoined the band to play some shows for fun and ultimately released The Up Rising in 2019, which was stunningly good album that would have been a great follow up had it come out in 1993 or so. Might have gotten them in the same discussion as Tool back then. Either way, I was so happy to hear them again and better than ever.
    Black Flag was mentioned elsewhere. Greg Ginn quit the band in 1986 (effectively ending it), then put together a lineup in 2013 to compete with the tribute act Flag (featuring past members of 80s Black Flag). That lineup imploded when vocalist Ron Reyes was fired during (or after a show). What The..., the album they recorded, was mediocre and an embarrassing blemish on the band's legacy.
    Descendents went 9 years between albums (1987's All, and 1996's Everything Sux) because Milo pursued academics and the rest of the guys pressed ahead as ALL. Everything Sux is one of their best albums ever. Still making albums off and on and killing it live.
    These are the bands that came to mind while watching!

    I would add the Avalanches to this list. They dropped their amazing debut album Since I Left You back in 2000, only to not release their sophomore album Wildflower until 2016 (a whopping 16 years later), due to the fact that the process of making Wildflower took way much longer than anticipated, and was compounded by several band members leaving the group during this period of time. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait that long between albums #2 and #3, with We Will Always Love You coming out at the end of 2020.

    VERY late to the party here but My Vitriol more than deserves a spot here. Especially after releasing a new album sampler on a live release in 2006 and the album not being released until 2017, and even then its not really a proper studio release

    There were 13 years between Pedro the Lion albums, although David Bazan was still active, who essentially is the band... And 13 years between Blind Melon albums, albeit with a different singer - RIP Shannon. And 10 years between 1997's Hand it Over, and 2007's Beyond, by Dinosaur Jr.

    I was definitely sad when I heard Jim Ward wasn't going to be on the new ATDI album, but then I remembered their greatest work, In el gran orgo, didn't have Jim Ward on it and it is an EP that doesn't leave my car CD player for weeks at a time. One good band that went over a decade between albums was Slowdive. Ride also went over a decade and Swervedriver went very close to a decade between albums. Lastly, the band Hum also went over a decade between releases. I guess the common denominator is they were all influential shoegazing bands that reformed for the shoegazing revival in the mid-2010s. Lastly, Blur went over a decade between releases. It was cool to see all those bands have successful revivals.
