As bad as it may be, I like to full focus on windfury talents. They just make Thrall super dangerous late game and the extra movement speed really helps.
It's worth noting that Earthquake procs your passive just like any other ability (But only on heroes), meaning that if you're expecting teamfights to run long then Earthquake can bring a pretty chunky amount of extra sustain you wouldn't be getting from Sundering. 3 pulses that can hit up to 5 enemies? I can't even count that high!
I like to build Thrall around his trait. I know it's not the popular way to play him, but he becomes nearly unkillable. Echo at 1 for more lightning = more heals, Mana Tide at 4 = more mana = more abilities = more heals, Ancestral or Follow Through at 7 based on enemy comp, Earthquake at 10 because it procs trait every pulse per enemy, Grace of Air at 13 because it doubles trait stacks, Tempest Fury at 16 because it lands 5 hits and with 13 talent you get 10 stacks of trait = 2 heals on one push of E, then Wind Rush at 20 for teleport and more Windfury heals. He can heal through everything as long as he can use abilities and hit stuff.
Ancestral Wrath is the normal go-to for most people, but don't sleep on Maelstrom weapon *IF* the enemy is letting you hit them with windfury often. with the 20/40 breakpoints giving you 40% active speed and 15% passive speed... With that movement speed thrall is just as scary as most tanks late-game because he can just run up to you and root you whenever he wants. If the enemy has really strong poke, then this is horrible and you should never do it. Just stand back and rain Qs in that case. But if the enemy Dva or something is just letting you smack her in the offlane... take advantage and get zoom zoom.
Another great thing to point out about earthquake is that each wave of the earthquake proc gives you a Frostwolf Resilience stack for each enemy Hero caught in it.
