      @@ukestudio3002 so true! This is a wonderful instrument that I borrowed from a friend - it led directly to my new Casimi guitar!

    I wish I could play this opening piece of yours. It's so beautiful. This guitar is gorgeous. African Blackwood is my favorite wood - the clarity!

      Thank you Michael! That piece is called Rialto and I’d be very happy to teach you to play it if you like!

    I absolutely love your playing (as always). The guitar sounds amazing and I love that there’s no angle break behind the nut. All too often the G string gets “caught” behind the nut. Brilliant design!

    I am from South Africa and have heard a couple of Casimi's online but the sound of this is just spectacular (the playing as well). I can hear that haunting sound typical of African Blackwood guitars which really suits your Celtic inspired music. Very impressed and very inspiring.

      Jonah Junior Thank you for watching! Casimi Guitars also run a guitar making school so you can rest assured there will be future generations of amazing luthiers coming out of South Africa! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video!

    Interesting comparing African Blackwood with old growth Brazilian.
    Are there any Kostal's built of AB? I would imagine AB is more plentiful and far less expensive? Thx MDW

      Paul Boden Last I heard there were about 10 of Jason’s guitars in ABW. I’ve played a couple personally and they were glorious! Thank you for watching!

      Just checked. AB is rare and expensive. It gets mixed reviews. Reportedly Dana Bourgeois built an AB guitar for Ricky Skaggs which self destructed after 30 days in the humidity of Hawaii and it was unable to be resuscitated.

    • @MichaelWatts
      @MichaelWatts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Paul Boden well, all wood is nothing more than a source of potential - ABW does need to be stabilised for longer than other woods but it can sound sublime in the right hands

    does your guitar have a neutral point?does all fan fretted guitar have neutral point?

    • @MichaelWatts
      @MichaelWatts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean a perpendicular fret? Yes, I’m fairly confident that every fanfret I have played has one.

  • @Samana009

    what is the scientific name of the African Blackwood?

    • @MichaelWatts
      @MichaelWatts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ivan Carlos Santiago That would be Dalbergia melanoxylon which makes it a true rosewood

    • @Samana009
      @Samana009 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MichaelWatts Good. In Brasil we never called the Dalbergia Nigra a rosewood. Here we put in the broad family of the Jacarandá, with dozens of others species. The most popular names for the Brazilian Rosewood would be Jacarandá-da-Bahia, or Jacarandá-Preto or its native name Caviúna or Cabiúna. These two species (the African and the Brazilian) are for certain sisters and they were the same species when the Brazilian coast was together with Africa, millions of years ago

    • @MichaelWatts
      @MichaelWatts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ivan Carlos Santiago Absolutely right! There is room for confusion with the jacarandá-da-Bahia but they are different woods with distinct personalities
