- Leafs superstar Mitch Marner is going into a contract year, and has not agreed to an extension as training camp approaches. Will Marner be traded? Sneaky Joe believes there's a realistic chance he will, and does not rule out the Sabres bidding for his services. Would Sabre fans scoff at the price it will take to acquire Marner?
Plus, Elliotte Friedman had some interesting comments on the pressure on the Sabres to make the playoffs this year, or there will be consequences.

Focus on the powerplay. If the powerplay is clicking, the Sabres have more than enough offensive prowess to (finally) participate in the postseason. Hire Peter Stastny to assist Seth Appert in coaching the powerplay.
Skinner stayed because of the MONEY.
I think Marner gets less in free agency then the leafs will offer him. GMs around the league are aware of how the leafs have overpaid in the past and his playoff performances have been very concerning.
Agreed and he’s more of the same of what we have a pushover defenseman that can put some bucks in the net, but can’t play his own zone

I would keep Samuelson as a scratch because if we can keep him healthy later in the season and the playoffs, he could be an asset payton , however, is too small and doesn’t have much talent

He's young & nowhere near his prime. His contract will be a steal within a few years from now.

And how was Dahlin in his first few seasons? Dahlin is now 24yo while Power is 21yo & is entering his 2nd full NHL season. Power should have probably played another season at Michigan. Defensemen take longer to develop than forwards.

They are playing against proven NHL talent. Comparing college/junior talent forwards to NHL caliber 80+ point ability forwards are not the same thing.
Every year people question Marner's effort in the playoffs. Not interested. Also dont want to gamble on how far off he drops without Matthews

Toronto wants Marner gone. Its been the same "playoff no-show" again and again and again. Hes a wicked playmaker..... and his regular season abilities can push the Sabres into the playoffs and boost ticket sales big time.

The only untouchables to me when it would come to a Marner trade would be Dahlin, Thompson, and Benson; everyone else is completely fair game. Obviously my first offer wouldn’t want to include Peterka or Power but if it ultimately came down to it, the Sabres gotta do whatever to get this team to the playoffs. I’m totally fine with having overpay a bit in a trade and overpay a bit to get him signed

Why do people keep talking about a marner trade. Marner has a full no movement clause, hes not going anywhere unless its to a team like COL or Vegas. Also im sure he would want to see the trade package, because if hes going to Vegas for lets say 2 good players maybe he wont accept the trade because the players he wants to play with are part of the trade. This applies to COL as well.
There is no way Marner would ever accept a trade to the Sabres so how is there even a bidding war if the player will out right say no.
Pass. The Sabres have 3 top 4 drafted young defenseman that all teams covet. The Sabres also have a lot of untapped top potential forwards on hand to turn to for offense.
I doubt that Adams would be fired. I think he will eventually be replaced as GM and move up to team president. The Sabres talked to Don Waddell before he was hired by Columbus, so it seems like they are laying the groundwork for some reshuffling (not with Waddell, though). Friedman seems to have a real hard-on against the Sabres, not sure why that would be, though.
Marner for Power or Peterka is a step Sideways, not a step forward. We need to get BETTER, not just look “different”.

ROFLMFAO No they can't, and yes it's very crazy, the Sabres are 100% on his no trade list and he would never Waive it to come here. Not to mention the internal cap. Pegula isn't interested in winning and won't ever pay a player what Marner would demand.
Lol do or die for Adams? This team is essentially worse than they were last season. They have a HUGE hole on the left that Adams FAILED to fill. Every other team in our division got better and the Sabres got worse. So yes I definitely see them missing the playoffs for a 14th season, in fact I expect it.

right now.. I would not be thinking about this. First, as a trade: you have between now and the deadline and if Toronto is in the thick of it, they'd be idiots to move him at the deadline. The reverse goes for Buffalo or anyone else really. If you are NOT in the thick of it, he's a pending UFA... just wait when all you need it $$$$ and not prospect capital as well. A lot can happen between now and the deadline. Unless you can see the future, this type of talk is fools-gold.
I live in Charlotte NC. There has been nothing special about the in game experience/entertainment for the Hornets, at all. Idk where your getting these great expectations from, your going to be thoroughly disappointed...

Marner cannot make more than Dahlin. He is your "top ceiling guy". It's better for a trade. Byrum or Power as the center piece but why give up a top 4 drafted defenseman when they are in a premium to acquire? Peterka? He could blossom into a 35 goal forward & be cheaper to resign than Marner. I'm not a fan of trading for Marner. I don't think he is the guy you trade maximum value for to make you a powerhouse. The Sabres have a lot of skill already on this team. Nobody but Tage has reached their top potential yet on this team. Dahlin, Power, Byrum, Peterka, UPL, Levi, Cozens, Benson, Helenius, Kulich, Quinn etc all have not reached their ceiling yet in their developments. Plus the other un mentioned prospects in the Sabres pipeline.

Marner isnt going any where. The ONLY WAY they trade Marner is he tells them next June he isnt resigning! . Tavares' contract is also up next season too, so the Laffs will tell Tavares bye bye and thanks for your service then use that money to sign the much younger Marner to a long term deal. The laffs will miss the playoffs next spring hence they will finally break up the core 4! Laffs will likely pay Marner a little more than what they gave Nylander in around $12 or 13 million a year .

Marner has a full NMC, but beyond that the bigger question is WHY in the world would you even want him? He's a perennial loser like the rest of the Laffs.

Sabres don't need Marner. The Sabres are stacked enough with young forward talent. Giving up Power or Byrum for Marner is taking away from your roster what all other NHL teams covet- top pairing young defensemen. In a few years you will be happy the Sabres held onto Power or Byrum. Pass.
I'd trade Power for Marner any & everyday of the week. Power will turn out to be a Ekblad type player, overrated. Plus we have to many #1/#2 LH D men. I'm good with those 2 D men being Dahlin & Birum.

Same will be true for Power. Unless he learns to hit & get some kind of mean streak, it's his future. I don't care if it's not his nature or how he plays. If he doesn't incorporate it into his game somehow he will never be a star. He is way to easy to play against & nobody fears him. Sad to say about a 6'6" 230 lbs player. Also sad that Samelsson has the same problem & is injury prone. At least he can play body and is a way better defender.

I mean the reality is you’re just getting a better version of Owen power by making that trade sure it’s not upgrade but you come playoff time. Marner proved he’s a pushover and can’t handle hand.
Kinda apples to oranges there seeing as how Power is a D man & Marner is a forward. Marner will score you 30+ goals & put up 75-100 points a year. He's been flat in the playoffs sure, but so has every Leafs player besides Nylander. Leafs just suck in the playoffs, lol. Power is only entering his 3 full season but has not even seen the playoffs. This is all fun and games anyways. Sabres will never land Merner. I predict Power will be traded within a 2 year period unless they can't resign Byrum.
