      Thanks LB. That's the best compliment I could receive.

    Thanks to BlackDuke for pointing out that I misspoke at 2:21 and said, "original Sony power supply." LOL. Oops, of course, I meant to say, "Sega power supply."

    Good tip on adding notes to your parts order. There are so many little bags of parts around here that I think I know what they were inteded for, but no doubt they'll get put into something else that requires the same part 😄

      Thanks. I also have small plastic bins each with all my individual projects. The parts orders (with notes) sit in these bins waiting for attention.

    Yay, new MFR!! I've got a Game Gear with exactly the same case, and exactly the same problem - nothing on the screen, but I can hear the game making sound so obviously the rest of the system is working pretty well. Seems like a SUPER common problem for these systems. I started looking up the repair but when I saw it involved replacing approximately One Million Capacitors, I shelved it :) I'm looking forward to seeing yours come back to life.

      Thanks very much. Well, I have got the hang of it now so if you ever wanted to send it down to me I'd be happy to recap it for you. 😀

    Nice video, great to see you pop up on my feed again. Very brave showing all the SMD cap removal - I hadn't actually seen the cut off method in that much detail before as most other toobers avoid showing it incase of negative comments, so thanks for sharing. I've never had to do it yet, but I like to see what others do.

      Thanks for the feedback. I figured that I would show it. The snip method is legit but in this case, where the caps had not leaked, it really is a messy and not-fun-to-watch technique. I will do better in future videos.

    Hi Mark! Nice to see you back. Great video :)

    3:09 Gosh, janky is really an understatement for that power supply. The transformer terminals are directly soldered to the plug spades, which are fitted into the plastic part of the trafo. Wow.

      Yeah, I was a bit surprised at that design too.

    SMD rework is a bain at the best of times, a bit of extra patience will go a long way in saving the pads. Good video!

    • @MindFlareRetro
      @MindFlareRetro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, such a pain. I very much needed to take my time with those. I can assure you, though, my technique has improved.

    Nice work! Never seen inside one of those before. Sure is packed in pretty tight in there!

      Thank you. My first time, too. Wait until you see the mainboard recap -- fun stuff.

    Nice to see you using all the old school methods of removing old stuff. It's kind of fitting with the era :)
    My bet is you'll be replacing that display.

      So, I had to return the Game Gear after recapping. I recommended to the owner that the display be modded with modern LCD replacement. I'm still waiting for a final decision, but this would make for a great Part 3.

    I kid you not when I say that just earlier today I was wondering when you'd post a new video and here it is. Weird. Appreciated and happy, but weird.

      That's too funny. I am trying to manage my time better, so hopefully you'll see videos on a more regular basis. 🤞

    Nice Video, the cutting and soldering of the caps was a bit cringe. BTW is your TRS-80 still alive after you accidently swapped the ROMs ?! Or will we have to wait till #SepTandy for Part2 ? 😊

      Thanks. Yeah, still working on my SMD cap rework technique. Man, I have shot so much video on the CoCo2 repair since part 1 and it's still not required. I have out that in the back burner for now, but 8 do plan to get back to it at some point. Part of the issue was that 8 had ordered ICs (during the pandemic) that took so long to arrive, I had moved on to other projects. Rest assured, the CoCo2 will return one day.

    2:21 It originally had a Sony power supply? I never knew that ;)

      Good god. That was a bad flub. LOL. I will have to mention that error in Part 2. Thanks for the heads up.

      @@MindFlareRetro Ah, they both begin with S, close enough. Are you planning on McWill screen modding it? I have done it to mine, looks incredible (and saves on batteries).

    • @MindFlareRetro
      @MindFlareRetro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BlackDuke235 I had to return the GG to its owner for the time being. However, yes, I had recommended the McWill display replacement. The owner will let me know and hopefully, there will be a Part 3. 😉

      btw, I just pinned a comment correcting my _Sony_ instead of _Sega_ comment. Thanks again for correcting me.
