As you are a fashion history buff, I thought you and your followers might be interested in the significance behind the specific cities being paid homage in Chanel's Les Eaux fragrances collection.
1. Paris-Deauville (2018) - Deauville, located on the Normandy coast, was the seaside city where Gabrielle Chanel launched her first boutique in 1913.
2. Paris-Biarritz (2018) - Gabrielle discovers Biarritz in 1915 and is enamoured with this seaside town and its sporty and sophisticated atmosphere. Biarritz is where she chooses to open her first couture house in a villa opposite the casino, and her where her elegant yet comfortable designs first attract an international clientele.
3. Paris-Venise (2018) - In 1920, mourning the death of her beloved, Boy Capel, she visits Venice and it's love at first sight. The Byzantine and Baroque art treasures she discovers there, influence her aesthetics and become one of the main sources of inspiration for her first jewellery collection and her subsequent style.
4. Paris-Riviera (2019) - In 1928-29, Chanel built her villa, "La Pausa" by the French Riviera at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin (high above the rocky coastline between Monaco and Italy). It was her summer refuge until 1953. She first saw the property while sailing the Mediterranean with the Duke of Westminster on his yacht in 1927. The villa is simple and more casual than most residences built at this time in the area, and she designed and built it exactly as she wanted.
5. Paris-Édimbourg (2020) - In 1924, Chanel discovered Scotland through the Duke of Westminster, her lover until 1930.The duke had three properties in the Highlands and Gabrielle was given carte blanche to redecorate one of them. She went salmon fishing, played cards with Winston Churchill, and enjoyed the lush green countryside. Chanel was greatly influenced at this time by the clothing worn by the British aristocracy during their outdoor pursuits; think of those fair isle knits with multicoloured geometric patterns, tartan, wool berets and of course those tweed jackets that have now become synonymous with the Chanel brand, one hundred years later.
6. Paris-Paris (2022) - Paris is the city we associate the most with Chanel. This fragrance is meant to depict the "vibrant and timeless Paris of Gabrielle Chanel; the authenticity of her character and the modernity of her soul. It is a dreamy Paris on a carefree morning on the terrace of a Parisian café."
Paris-Venise happens to be my favourite of this collection as well.

My daughter bought Biarritz for me for Christmas, and honestly when I first sprayed it I thought the same thing as you- bug spray. I did not have the heart to return it so it sat on my bureau for a few months and in the spring I tried it out on the way to work. Well it dried down to a clean floral on me and I love it! I wear it almost every day now. That zesty smell that you first get doesn’t last long at all on my skin.

Thank you for a wonderful review of the les eaux collection! I’m really enjoying your detailed review style. Since you asked, I agree with your descriptions regarding the citruses and heavier base notes. I don’t seem to smell white florals in many of the fragrances that you and others do. I am personally most fond of Paris-Biarritz, Paris-Venise and Paris-Edimbourg.

I have Edimbourg & love it, settles down to a beautiful scent, opening is quite strong - you nailed the description. It's so Scottish woods after the rainfall. I usually like florals but I would buy this (was a Christmas gift from hubby & seems to be lasting ages - 125ml bottle.) Got the body lotion of Paris-Paris but need to smell the actual EDT, it's growing on me and I love rose - not synthetic smelling ones though! Great round up, thanks Alli. 👌

I have Paris-Biarritz and I absolutely love it. I purchased it when it first came out. I liked Paris-Riviera but I went with Biarritz because Riviera was a bit too powdery for me. I love Tom Ford's Rose Prick so I am excited to try Paris-Paris. Thanks for the thorough review of this line.

Agreed, they’re so elegant and romantic to me! I wanted Venise initially but it’s been a while since i’ve smelled it. I smelled Paris when it first came out and enjoyed it, I think these 2 are the best in the collection IMO. But i’m not sure if i’ll get them, I’m more of a Les Éxclusifs girl😩 (actually only love a couple of them HAHA but i love them a LOT). So tempted to get Paris though! How do you find the Les Eaux perform?
I own all of these fragrances; it's my favorite Chanel fragrance line.
My top three are Édimbourg, Deauville, and Paris. In the Fall, I only wear Venise.

I always been a Guerlaine perfume person. But did get a sample of Gardenia and had to get it. Now I got a tiny sample of Beige and OMG. I am loving it. I went to the Chanel site but didn’t see there. Will continue on my search. 😍have great week.

I received Paris Paris yesterday and wore it for the day. The dry down reminds me a lot of a softer version of Coco. I absolutely smell the Patchouli in the dry down.
Really? On me I don't pick up the patchouli at all.

guy here; narrowed down to biarritz, edimborg, riviera... I bought the biarritz... I like the light scent... last Chanel I bought was allure home that I didn't open from more than 10 yrs ago... prefer t he les eau line...

Edimbourg is my fave! This would be my next Chanel perfume. Unless I like Paris more. I havent tried it yet. We have them here now but no testers so far ._.

Bug spray impression comes from the Neroli. Neroli was easily available in the 19th century, when a lot of hygene products were invented. Same with Savon de Marseille.

What a lovely tour of les eaux! I’m an Edinbourgh wearer - I like the mix of woody with very clean notes on top. The combo of scent and lotion makes me feel and smell so pampered. I want to try Paris too and now Biarritz is tempting!

I have only tried Paris Venise so far, and I agree with your review of it. Its powdery and usually citrus smells like bug spray on me, but this one doesn't & is not too sweet or floral. I like layering this with Juliette has a Gun not a perfume. A very pleasant, unoffensive perfume.
I think Paris Venise is still my favourite from the series 🖤
@AllisonChase I'm still wanting to smell the whole series 😅 I just bought 13 of the Les Exclusifs samples for $100 +shipping and honestly I am dissapointed so far. They all smell too similar to No 5. I do like Beige, though. Probably not enough to spend $350 on it. I find Premiere and L'eau to be similar and much cheaper.

Hi Maya! It depends on the perfume but in general they won't last as long as a classic perfume.
