      Chris F. She’s kinda busted in FE3 (who gave the idea to allow her to fly, because they need a raise), especially considering the way her “transformation gauge” works, being based on her pretty good luck stat and growth (basically she has a 50% chance to stay transformed for 5 turns or 50% to stay for 5 plus half of her luck stat). In Book 1, she’s basically your best shot at beating Medeus should you not have the Falchion, as even people with the Regalias aren’t gonna be doing much, and when it comes to the chapters, she can fly over the mountains and rivers in chapters 16, 17 and 19.
      Book 2 is where the real fun starts, as not only does she join earlier, allowing her flying utility with the Divinestone to be even more useful, but her joining chapter has a secret shop that sells Wyvern and Mage stones. With the former, she can once again fly, but also have 12 movement, or even the capped 15 movement if you give her the boots, allowing her to pick just about any target. If you give her the latter, she will have 15 defense, and most notably, 20 resistance, allowing her to safely face the Meteor and Bolganone Dark mages in the endgame.
      Overall, one of the more interesting Manaketes to talk about, and she’s in the third game, shame that they removed that mechanic in the DS titles.

    I think it's worth noting that it's relatively easy to get shamir into brigand for +6mt. It makes her damage more reliable on maddening. She can also get S+ bows for 5 more might and +10 critical, and there's not much reason not to since she starts with A bows and sniper is a great endgame class.
    I think pegasus on her isn't super useful to dip into. As a sniper, she has almost no reason not to use Hunter's Volley every player phase, and Sniper Shamir is arguably better than Falcon Knight Shamir. At the very least Sniper Shamir is endgame good and requires no focused investment. Like you said, she's so low maintenance.
    I agree with her placement though. She's so good, but a rung lower than the lords

    • @nielsa6783
      @nielsa6783 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Agreed, Shinon is great. Big wall of text incoming so apologies in advance.
      Mekkah mentions that Shinon can't one-round with the 1-2 range crossbow, but nobody one-rounds reliably with 1-2 range weapons in part3 until hand axes/javelins
      become forgeable which takes a while. And even then it's just Haar. Ike will absolutely not one-round reliably with a wind edge. Maybe Ike (and Mia too for that matter) can if he's given the adapt skill. Titania isn't doubling anything until like part 3 endgame so that's a no. Oscar and Nephenee are just too weak. Janaff and Ulki don't even have an 1-2 range option.
      Shinon is also a great user of the adapt skill which actually gives him a pretty decent shot at one-rounding if you're lucky enough. It's also not like Shinon just dies on enemy phase, the guy got some bulk too.
      The fact that Shinon is one of the very few in part3 that one-rounds ever, even if it's just player phase or even if it requires the adapt skill to do so, is extremely valuable. On many maps you want to make haste for bonus exp, map objective to unlock Lehran or item drops/steals (like the energy drop in the defense map or the bolting tome in the early swamp map) so just clearing stuff on player phase can really be appreciated.
      And this is just part3. Part4 is probably his worst, but he's definitely not bad. On the Greil army is Shinon, alongside his fellow Snipers, among the only ones that one-round the 4-1 pegasus knights and especially the boss, because noone other than like Mia and Nailah can double those lasses. In 4-4 he can abuse ledges like no other and shoot down all those reinforcements. On Hawk army I've had Leonardo with a Nolan support clear out the entire southern portion of 4-2 (first Hawk army chapter) on his own with crossbows (yes I actually like using Leonardo on Hard mode, I think he's pretty underrated), and if Leo can, so can Shinon. If you bring Shinon to the Hawk army you can also give him beastfoe and just destroy everything with crossbows in the Izuka chapter. I know this chapter can be finished within a turn or 2 using the rescue staff but still. -I guess he's also usable on Micaiahs army where there are a lot of wyvern reinforcements that he can shoot down, but eh, Greil and Hawk are better for him.- edit: nvm completely forgot Wyvern aren't weak to arrow, crossbow Shinon def isn't one-rounding those I think, my b.
      And like mentioned, he is just nuts in the tower.
      TLDR; Shinon deserves better imo.

    • @acsu96
      @acsu96 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nielsa6783 Very interesting! I've always liked Shinon but I've never actually played HM in RD until my current run (still on part 2), so that's an interesting take that I will just have to take your word for. Crossbows are definitely the most unique part of RD and I've never really utilized them. It sounds pretty useful to be able to one-round some stuff. One thing I am wondering is how much enemy healing is there in early(ish) part 3? I guess if it's not too much then 2 rounding is more fine for all these units, and hand axes/javelins are certainly easier to come by than the crossbows.
      Also do you usually take provoke off him?

    I have to say, Innes seems to be a markedly superior Sniper to Louise, particularly in Eirika’s route. He joins earlier and has just as strong offense as Louise, but he’s also able to reliably one-round Gargoyles and such throughout the game, whereas Louise has trouble surviving the large amounts of hard-hitting Wyverns in the FE7 lategame and isn’t as reliable.

    Gonna comment on Rachel from TRS: she's the real Jagen of TRS. Has innate mercy on human enemies which makes her useful for raising units such as Sasha earlygame. She contributes fairly well on monster maps such as Holmes route so she is able to still kill things. You can remove her mercy skill via an event but that requires picking Ruka sadly. She's still very solid regardless as she can use a lot of bows at base. Maybe B tier for average? A well designed unit.
    Edit: Tomas in New Mystery is so ass on maniac/lunatic he doesn't even one shot dracos in chapter 17 with silver bows at base and he wants an arm scroll to use Parthia if he wants a shot of doing something in chapter 21 against those wyverns.

    I'm gonna have to disagree with Shura's placing, he easily goes into A tier. Conquest Shura is an absolute monster if used correctly. With a meal and a fast pair up he can one round the master ninjas on lunatic the chapter after joining if he's a master ninja, even if you don't use an arms scroll on him for this he can still be a really good chip unit for the ninja chapter and the rest of the game. Not to mention he has access to replicate from his Mechanist reclass, get replicate and then reclass back into Adventurer for 2 staff bots at the price of 1 deployment slot.
    Shura is fast, strong, all around reliable damage dealer who debuffs to *boot* and can be made into a great support unit with rallies from Adventurer and Berserker and access to staffs.

    As for shamir, a few extra points, she can kill the death knight in chapter 6 at base in maddening with lance of ruin knightkneeler (she comes with knightkneeler), and if you are indeed reclassing her, her best option is archer for hit+20, fughter for str +2 and brigand for deathblow, and then just sniper with her only focus being bows for midlate game bowfaire. This plan also isnt hard because if you reclass her straight away, shell have good stats anyways for the early chapters which makes it so you can train her whilst still being able to make good use of her, and soloing auxiliary battles with her is actually pretty easy and gets her the skills even faster. And lastly remember that the knowledge gem also exists for this build

  • @DD151
    @DD151 4 ปีที่แล้ว +52

    dondon's addenda to Mekkah's comments:
    - FE6 had 2 snipers on the list and somehow you forgot to talk about the Brave Bow! Klain and Igrene sometimes circumvent their doubling issues with this, and unlike the Brave Axe and Brave Lance forcing the user to get up close and risk getting murdered due to AS loss, the Brave Bow is often risk-free. It also has the highest accuracy of the obtainable brave weapons in FE6.
    - I agree with Louise's placement but largely disagree with the reasoning behind it. FE7 has a deployment slot shortage, so choosing to deploy Louise means that you think a deployment slot is worth +3 defense to Pent, because she isn't doing much else and chances are that you can still do something useful with her unit slot. For a unit with a bad enemy phase, her combat is also fairly mediocre. At her join time, she will be strictly outclassed by Rath, except for the part about giving support to Pent.
    - The comment section is vastly overrating FE10 Shinon. I think that there is an argument for B tier (and I would probably place him there), but he is basically a filler utility unit past chapter 3-4. The problem is that FE10 has rout maps in 3-8, 3-10, 3-E, and most of part 4, where Shinon is killing at most like, 4 out of 40+ enemies on the map. And every bit of investment that Shinon gets in early part 3 is investment that could've gone to someone that does things in part 4. Then there is the allure of the Double Bow, which I think you put too much focus on despite downplaying its role in Shinon's performance - that's how irrelevant it is. 4-E-1 is rout, which means that Shinon is bad, until you pick up the Double Bow and relay it to him, at which point the map should be half over. His existence is irrelevant in the rest of 4-E because those maps can be beaten in 1 turn. Then he chips an aura and the game is over. So Shinon does not have much of a peak at the end of FE10, and to get there came at the detriment of at least another unit.

    • @ohandthefracking

      @DD151 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ohandthefracking Base + promo Rath already beats Louise in physical bulk and is behind 1 point in str and 5 points in spd. If you account for some level ups between their join times, Rath will tie or beat Louise in str by chapter 26 and be slightly behind in spd at worst, which doesn't really matter because both will double the same things. So the choice between deploying her or Rath comes down to whether you want a mounted unit or +3 def for Pent in specific situations. Rath has some advantages over other mounted units such as taking less penalty from forests and snow and being able to rescue every other character.

    • @Mekkkah
      @Mekkkah  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Brave Bow is pretty nice, I actually think it's a pro for Louise too. Not Innes sadly cause brave weapons come too late in FE8, and it doesn't really matter for other snipers I think. I feel like Igrene usually won't need Brave Bow but Klein definitely gets a bit better due to it.
      Low deployment slots in HHM is true. I did find her to be worth the slot in a lot of chapters after she joined in negative growths and probably would still with 0%, but with growths she is definitely outclassed by pretty much anyone who has been trained and is still being deployed (cavaliers, magic users, etc)
      And yeah I didn't even mention that endgame in FE10 is just so short. I'm not even assuming everyone 1 turns the upcoming map, but even for casual players it's good to note that in 4-E-2 no matter what Shinon does it's not going to help the main objective of the map. I think 1-turning 4-E-3 is a bit too difficult/complex to assume for most players so I'd give Shinon some credit there for being able to attack without getting countered and then being able to counterattack on EP, plus he has an easy time making use of Ena thanks to his flexibility. 4-E-4 is an easy one turn though and he'll only attack twice at most in 4-E-5 unless he gets vigored.

      Innes being able to use Nidhogg doesn't mean much if you're only using the thing to shoot 1 enemy a turn. You still can't counterattack 95% of the enemies the game throws at you on enemy phase. He is really strong against monsters with the Nidhogg, but so is every other sacred weapon user. And compared to some of the bonuses those weapons give, like Garms speed boost, Nidhogg isn't even all that impressive among the sacred weapons.
      It's the same as saying Lyn is good because Mani Kati. Or RD Ilyana is good because Rexbolt. Just having access to an exclusive weapon doesn't make the weapon, nor the user, good by default.

    I don't see how Shinon isn't at least high B, even without heavy investment he gets 2-3 range naturally on promotion, caps all of his stats easily, and contrary to what you said I would say he almost always one rounds k.o's except against armor units (which there are admittedly a lot of). Maybe it's due to the fact that I usually give out forged weapons like candy and smuggle the Greil mercenaries extra cash (also worth noting you can forge a better silencer for cheaper than the cost of the 2nd silencer on HM). He also has dead eye which isn't reliable but it guarantees a kill whenever it does proc which is nice. He also gets access to the double bow in end game 1, and Shinon is essentially the only viable archer without heavy investment which is really nice for the dragons in end game 3.

If he weren't good at getting kills, he wouldn't consistently place top 5 kills in all of my runs.

      The problem shinon has is the lack of 1 range until e-1 and in the part of the game with the thickest enemy density and multiple rout chapters. He has really good combat stats but he is realistically only going to kill one enemy per turn at the most. If there was a fe3h mini bow or close counter in this game, he probably would have been A or S teir.

    RD Shinon basically is a wall. He’s so bulky so that I don’t remember him die in all of my playthroughs even once. Although I understand you don’t need a sniper to tank, RD essentially is not that Enemy phase emphasized, and enemy usually prioritizes attacking those who can’t counter, thus Shinon can effectively protect Rhys or Mist if necessary.
    Besides, Silencer is also a fantastic weapon which is basically his personal weapon. He is one of few who has a chance to one round some very bulky enemy throughout part 3 and part 4.
    Last but not least, there’s few competition when it comes to deploying slots in RD. Shinon is those units that you can always bring with you for every chapter he is available. I know endgame is his biggest advantage but that doesn’t mean you need to do a whole lot for him to shine. Even if you don’t want to bring him to the tower that’s totally fine, because he’s still pretty decent in all maps. Especially in part 4 Greil army, he still gets job done even in base level. I would say Shinon is at least a top B, and significantly better than Klein or Igrene respectively.

    Innes is pretty good on the desert mission for one reason, he is able to smack valter and not have to worry about counter attacks via longbow or destroy him with the silver bow. Only issue is valter's high speed might make it to where you cant steal the fili shield so bows are effective, but that is only on hard mode if I remember correctly.

There's never a period where he stops killing enemies and by endgame he is one of the best units in the whole game. He's only A because lack of strong 1-2 range until Double bow. I could maybe see a B tier as well, but C?

    • @Docaccino

      Shinon is alright in most of part 3 but after a while the fact that his enemy phase is pretty limited really starts to hurt him, especially with how rout heavy late part 3 and early part 4 are. He does basically get exclusive double bow access but since you get it in 4-F-1 there's not a lot of time to use it effectively. The one map where the 1-2 range is useful is 4-F-3 but Shinon would need dragonfoe to make the most out of it.

    Innes has the one advantage of being able to use Nidhogg fairly easily. For a GBA game, it is a bow that can one tap late game monster enemies, and realistically he is your only unit you are really getting much Bow rank on. So like, unlike Jeorge and Parthia, Innes has a Regalia weapon that actually lets him do work on very prevalent late game enemies.

    I gotta say I really like using some of these units since you do get them for free. You did mention context was a very important factor in these rankings, but I think an additional thing worth considering is how the mounted bow users in each game stacks up against the snipers in terms of competition for good bows. I guess I'm mostly thinking of Shin/Sue, Rath and Astrid (FE9), since Brigid doesn't really feel the need to use anything apart from Yewfelle. I guess a lot of the time Klein is running around with a free Silver anyway but maybe this affects Ingrene more? just extra food for thought.
    Also only unit with perma 1 range is highest tier shocker

    • @vanjagalovic3621
      @vanjagalovic3621 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you wanna compare sniper to their mounted conuterparts.
      In FE6 Sue and Shin have better utility and more movement which is very useful in the large maps of FE6, they can also use swords upon promotion, but only iron swords. However both come with a D rank in bows and need to be trained up. Sue even when trained up likely won't have much better combat than Klein and Igreene because of the lack of super canto, her low strength and low bulk. Shin is much better due to hard mode bonuses and his higher strength and will likely be your best bow user in the endgame and even a viable pick for the tower. Dayan is pretty good, having access to silver bows and killing edges at base, though he is hurt by his low availability and needing to go to Sacae in order to get him.
      In FE7 Rath just strictly outclasses Louise due to having a mount and you'll usually only deploy Louise over him if you want her to suppor Pent. Though overall neither is very good in FE7.
      In FE8 Neiimi and Gerik can promote to horsemen, but they likely won't get the Nidhogg. Still you're never gonna train Neiimi in fast playthrough, but Gerik will likely be better than Innes because Gerik has access to a mount.
      Astrid is strictly better than Shinnon is every are in POR. These roles are revesed in RD since Shinnon has better bases and availability this time and having a mount isn't as useful. It's funny to compare these two and see how different they are game to game.
      Overall, mounted bow users are strictly better unless it's FE6 or 10.

    Funny how when you made your archer tier list, I remember saying how if RD Shinon was in a tier list, he'd actually terrorize all the other archers and Snipers.
    After putting Shinon in c tier, I can't understand that mindset... Like at all. Especially if you keep Shinon in Ike's party for Part 4, he fights in a fog of war map with sandbags, so he can attack enemies from behind them, and then the next map involves using him in a mansion. So I don't understand your reasoning unless you put Shinon in Micaiah or Tibarn's party instead. Also, crossbows aren't horrible, and I have played using Crossbows on both Shinon and other Reavers and those things crit a lot and can clean house against flying units. Especially when you realize you get plenty of solid crossbows by Part 4 (Aqqar has high might, and Taksh has high crit). Crossbows are also some of the most accurate weapons in the entire game, so they aren't useless, and Shinon can easily make usage of them.
    Now some people use the excuse that Shinon has to contend with other units that use canto. Sorry to disappoint, but the only unit other than Marksmen who can use the double bow by endgame is Astrid, and despite her growths, Shinon will do significantly better than her by a wide margin.
    Sure Shinon can't attack up close unless using a crossbow or the double bow, but his high defense and res (for a marksmen, mind you) are a staple feature as to why he's so great. I would almost say that even during the first part of the greil mercs that Shinon is your best unit, even nore so than Ike, as Shinon can double easier and take better magical damage than Ike which, if you're unlucky like I was, can die to an elthunder crit quite easily.
    Bottom line: S tier stands for Shinon tier, no questions asked. Even RD Rolf I would consider high C, low B tier.

    If we're talking about H5 Shadow Dragon Jeorge VS. Reverse Lunatic New Mystery Jeorge, New Mystery is better, in my opinion. NM Jeorge just has that incredible base bow rank and pretty decent base stats, as well as innate access to a decent weapon rank with a cavalry class in the Horseman, being in FE12 Reverse Lunatic where bows are honestly some of the best tools you have to avoid heavy damage taking, I think that this outweighs the utility he has in Shadow Dragon. Maybe I'm wrong here, but I think you already have a lot more tools in Shadow Dragon to avoid damage with effective weaponry than simply ranged weapons in FE12. That game definitely gives you a bit less effective weapons, from my memory at the very least.

  • @Oblivion776

    The Shura dilemma is pretty weird. Because having the extra move is crucial for low-turn clears of some of the worst chapters (ch. 22 and 23 are both a really big deal where you need the +1 and a mov pair up to get a unit to the seize point in time). That being said, he is still an exceptionally good unit even in Conquest. His bases are phenomenal, especially speed (which is at a premium in CQ). IIRC he can reach the double/not get doubled threshold for ninjas/master ninjas in ch. 17 immediately after his join chapter which is super useful, especially on a bow unit with free WTA. He also gets access to the ninja reclass line which is super nice because he's the only CQ character with natural access to ninja that has both good offensive stats (no speed on Laslow) and acceptable mixed bulk (no defense on Kaze), and it goes without saying that ninjas are the best unmounted classline in Fates because they have the best 1-2 range options. His main disadvantage as a combat unit is actually something you accidentally touched on when discussing him in that he doesn't get supports with anyone other than Corrin (and Kana I guess, if you bang him) which limits the amount of free stats he can give/get through guard stance. Even still, he's probably at least a top 10 or maybe even top 8 unit in CQ performance wise. It's just that if you're playing efficiently you will always be taking the boots; even outside of a strictly LTC context, being able to bum rush 22/23 is super nice (playing those chapters legit suuuuuucks) and can be done with a pretty wide array of sufficiently invested 8 move fliers, so many players will have access to those clears. So...yeah. B tier? Maybe? I don't really know either tbh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • @MythrilZenith
    @MythrilZenith 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    One note on FE1 and FE3 Jeorge - that game LOVES its enemy snipers through walls, especially in FE1/FE3B1. 1-2 range options are incredibly limited, so a good sniper can really help in taking those on. THAT SAID, I don't know if that moves FE3 Jeorge up to B-tier, because Jeorge has low enough HP that he tends to get 1-shot by a crit, and enemy snipers have high enough Skill and silver bows, so you will almost always be facing crit chance if you try to take them on. Not that getting 1-shot by FE3 snipers is unique to Jeorge, but it does limit his ability to take them on in enemy phase.

      the funny thing is that the archetype of obnoxious recruitments is called the lorenz archetype (named after general lorenz of archanea), but he wasn't actually that difficult to recruit. all he needed was caeda (or marth in the ds version of shadow dragon) talking some sense into him. i think the difficult part with lorenz is the fact that he shows up in the same chapter as camus, who looks and acts like he should be recruitable but isn't because he's blindly obedient to his worthless doormat of a king, while lorenz seems like a generic enemy general at first, so it's an interesting subversion of expectations. (also, in FE1, he can only be recruited by caeda, but he's surrounded by ballisticians that will nuke her if given the chance. they don't have 3-10 range in the famicom version and are basically just archers but worse, but their ballistae are still powerful and have triple might against fliers, and caeda has the bulk of wet tissue paper, so recruiting him without losing caeda is pretty risky, unlike in FE11 where he stands motionless on the seize point, having swapped places with camus, and can be safely reached by marth or caeda if they go around the west side of the mountain.)

    FE1 George is a perfect candidate for the Parthia because he requires the least to invest in. Once he gets the weapon levels for it, he’s good to go. As for other potential wielders, Thomas is probably the next closest with a base of 9 and the same 50% growth as George. He just joins a few chapters later and is 1 point behind George in weapon rank.
    Sedgar’s probably not getting it with a base of 3 and a 30% growth. Castor could fare a little better due to an earlier join time and a higher base of 6, but he’s got an even worse growth of 20% in weapon level. Gordon has a chance of being able to use it, but that requires training and using him. Base 5 level with a 50% growth, so it could be feasible. Wolf seems like he could do it: fairly early join time, rank 6 in weapon level, but has a MASSIVE 60% growth!!!! (Hoo boy).
    The problem of training up another Parthia user comes from training up another bow user to get the weapon level for it. It’s not a guaranteed thing to level up weapon rank so unless you’ve been training up another unit or you’re a fan of FE1 Thomas, then George is probably the way to go. Plus you can use the Parthia to give him resistance to make him a MAGEKILLER (or use a barrier or pure water on literally any ranged attacker or physical attacker. It’s not about killing a mage more than it is to not get doubled by them)
    tl;dr FE1 George is okay, but he’s more okay than the rest of the bow users at using Parthia. Good video.

    I think Bow Knight or Wyvern Knight/Lord are still Shamir's best classes (and she gets to Bowknight very easily) on hard mode. Hard mode is still mostly enemy phase, except for map objectives that let you warp/stride/dance skip, in which case Shamir isn't doing anything anyways. On Maddening, I agree that Sniper for Hunter's Volley is better, since the game is mostly done on player phase as very few units can survive more than one enemy at a time. Shamir has amazing utility pre time-skip, Catherine and her can largely take care of the game by themselves. Unlike Catherine, she does fall off post-timeskip but Hunter's Volley keeps her relevant.

  • @YuryVVV
    @YuryVVV 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I definitely agree on Shamir being the best sniper in the series, and this goes even beyond the fact that we talk about the "sandbox" game in which every character can become good, like Three Houses. Usually stats like Skill (or Dex) and Luck are considered pretty unimportant, but they are exactly what makes Shamir just absurdly good at killing enemies. Her crit rate is absolutely bonkers, and provided with a good battalion (Fraldarius soldiers, preferably) and several other perks she easily gets to 90-100% crit rates and just OHKOs pretty much every enemy, except some fat Fortress Knights. Those she just needs to double.
    Obviously, the good argument here is "well, give all those skills to any other unit, and they'll be just as good", but if you look at Shamir's competition, nobody really is there to compete. Bernadetta struggles with all of her offensive stats and is just plain pathetic without her personal skill being activated, Ashe is very mediocre and excels at being a Wyvern Rider, which fixes his weak growths, Ignatz in general is pretty much the worst unit among the students. I even tried out Felix as a Sniper/Bow Knight, and even he wasn't as good offensively, despite having a mount, a bigger range and slightly higher Speed. The only real competition Shamir has is Leonie, but again, while being exceptionally good, Leonie isn't always guaranteed to kill an enemy.
    So in conclusion, Shamir is one of those units that takes the least amount of effort or/and investment to be good. She is good from the start. High bases, high weapon ranks, reliable growths is Strength and Speed and incredibly high ones in Dex and Luck turn her into a unit capable of taking down enemies from a distance in one clean hit. Which her whole personality just revolves around.
    Anyway, sorry for this rant. If it wasn't obvious, I just love Shamir and may just be a little biased towards her lol

      To really simplify it games with weak enemies are enemy phase and games with strong enemies are player phase. If enemies don't do much damage and get one rounded by your unit, you can throw that unit into crowds and have a bunch of units run in and kill themselves during their own phase. If enemies do heavy damage preventing you from taking several attacks in a row, or if they're bulky enough to survive a round of combat you won't kill as many during enemy phase and thus will have more enemies to attack during your own phase.

    • @gameboyn64
      @gameboyn64 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Player phase games are games where the player is encouraged to initiate combat with enemy. Enemy phase games are games where the player is encouraged to let the enemy initiate combat. Player phase games typically have stronger enemies which your units will have difficulty surviving hits from. Conquest and 3 houses also implement skills that make allowing the enemy to initiate disadvantages. Enemy phase games are like path of radiance and genealogy where you throw your units at the enemy and readily allow your units to see multiple rounds of combat during the enemy phase

    Shinon not good throughout part 3 & 4? Hmm...
    First of all, as you noted, his stats are good enough that he'll be able to kill enemies without much trouble so long as he gets a decent amount of EXP. No issues there. But does he really get left behind by the maps?
    3-P: If you care about BEXP, having him man one of the ballistas can actually be really valuable, as he can pick up key kills against enemy mages to help the laguz survive, though he typically does need to crit (with decent odds). Otherwise, a lot of the Greil mercs can't one-round, so Shinon is definitely making a difference.
    3-1: Shinon can attack across the wall much more effectively than the rest of your army, especially valuable in a rout, particularly if you care about turn count.
    3-2: This chapter is mostly a Haar party, but Shinon still performs about as well as anyone that isn't Haar.
    3-3: Lots of fences and tight spaces, so Shinon's strong 2 range combat is very valuable here.
    3-4: You're going uphill, and Shinon is accurate enough to clear letges so you can go upletge. The Paladins can't even access the latter half of the map.
    3-5: Defense chapter with a fort and letges. The value of a Sniper here should be pretty obvious. Leave the ballistas to Rolf.
    3-7: Nothing you do here matters, but at least he can cross the water, unlike the Paladins. Good opportunity to train him, and anyone else you're using.
    3-8: An indoor map, which limits Haar's mobility. Haar can solo the map, but it's faster to let him solo half or so while the rest of your army takes the other half, and Shinon can do some work there.
    3-10: Another Haar party, but again it's faster if Haar isn't expected to solo the whole map, and again, Shinon puts in work in the part that Haar isn't soloing. Although by this point, an Ike/Mia team might be capable of taking the other half without caring about Shinon's contributions.
    3-11: Bridge map with sandbags and pitfalls. Mostly you want fliers, and if you have enough of them, there's an argument that you don't even deploy Shinon here. You get Ike, Ranulf, Sigrun, Tanith force-deployed, and you'll probably want to take Haar, Reyson, Janaff, Ulki, and Marcia, leaving just 3 units slots, two of which will probably be occupied by Mia and a healer. If you brought Jill over from the Greil mercs, that probably sends Shinon to the bench. Though I'm sure not everyone trains Marcia or uses both Janaff and Ulki. Still, if you do bring Shinon, he can attack enemies across the sandbags and pitfalls, although sometimes there are pitfalls in front of the sandbags, so that's something to watch out for.
    3-E: Similar to 3-10, Shinon probably isn't making a huge impact here.
    So for part 3, I think you're not too far off, but I think you underestimated how long Shinon stays highly relevant. It's not just the first 3-4 chapters, it's the first 6, and in the 7th chapter there's no reason not to train him. There are really only 4 chapters where Shinon isn't making an impact.
    Part 4 is trickier because you have to choose where to send him, so he really only needs to be good in one or two maps to be good in all of Part 4.
    4-P & 4-3: I wouldn't send Shinon into the desert, let the fliers handle that.
    4-1 & 4-4: This would be my choice. 4-1 lets him utilize the sandbags while the enemy phase units advance to the south. 4-4 is another map where Shinon can help kill enemies upletge, and can kill enemies downletge on the right side. As an indoor map, mounted units are penalized (plus most or all of your fliers are probably in the desert). There are also pretty tight corridors that make Shinon's 2 range more valuable. That being said, with Ragnell, Ike can do everything Shinon can do better, and a whole lot more besides. Still, Ike can't be everywhere at once.
    4-2 & 4-5: There are some dense thickets in 4-2 that Shinon can help clear a path through. 4-5 is a Tibarn party.
    I think Shinon is doing work in Part 4, but even if you don't that still gives him 6 good chapters and 6 mediocre chapters (and 1 lolchapter) before endgame, at which point he becomes legitimately amazing. That's at least B tier, maybe low A tier, imo. Think about how many units in Radiant Dawn are actually better than that - it's not too many.

    Before starting Shinon better be an S tier in Radiant Dawn. Guy will never die. Holy shit you have never really used Shinon huh? That guy can tank everything and you can really put him front lines with a crossbow to weaken everything and he saves your weak units with Provoke. S tier for sure. Only problem is the time when you get the double bow. He gets 2 Silencers in the game and just give him the "killer" version of the crossbow and any other unique high mt crossbow.

    • @gameboyn64
      @gameboyn64 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1. Why would you buy the silencer, just forge a steel bow. A fully forged steel bow has one less might but cost 2625g instead of 8000g.
      2. Taksh(30mt, 10crt) is avalible in 3-12 (dawn brigade chapter), aqqar(34mt) is in 3-11(boss drop), arbalest(38mt 15crit) is in 4-4. Realistically in part 3 you are only going to have the crossbow until 3-e of which the aqqar is not the killer version. You only get the arbalest for about half a chapter before the double bow shows up.
      The problem with the crossbow in general though is the might. 28 atk for the standard crossbow is less than the base atk all of the greil mercs except mist.
