Would LOVE a food episode. Everyone talks gear, but the food is so much weight and cost and really makes/breaks you.

Found the channel on youtube, but have been listening on Spotify on my weekend training hikes. Testing my new gear, pack weight, get my body ready. I've gotten soft after years doing the corporate hustle. Finally have a full month of vacation time. Tminus 20 days till I hit the entire LT for the 2nd time! Going solo this time and I am pumped!!

Frozen mentioned the shit food as a learning lesson … agree with him. So many hikers eat like crap. It’s understandable because of the nature of the challenge.

I’m on the way back to the car from a 20 mile camp and listening to this podcast. I read a couple of comments that said Kyle is talking too much let frozen talk more or the guest talk more and to me I’ve gotten a pretty equal talking experience from both frozen has asked Kyle a lot of questions and Kyle has responded and, it almost seems like two friends, talking more than just a podcast which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed on the way back through these woods

Thru hiking is the ultimate test of being able to adapt to the twists & turns that happen when you're out there. Frozen, please dont be so much of a purist that you won't adapt by flipping, as needed, to complete as much of the trail as you can! Do what you must to complete the most miles!

  • @AmericanDrainWorks

i saw translescent colored scorpions on trail while night hiking. no rattle snakes, one bobcat or lynx (super cool), lots of lizards.
2022 desert heat was horrible. but night hiking changed everything. there are parts of the desert that I definitely want to hike again during winter. it was hard to hike thru some areas in the heat carrying sooo much water. you are right, harder and harder to hike the entire trail in one season due to fire closures and now due to the sierra snow.
Frozen, it was good to see you. I followed you on the AT. Be careful on Baden Powell (trail gets sketchy if there is snow..from the top along the crest, vere to the left- the trail does end up going down on the left side..if there is snow, the right of the crest exposure makes the snow on the right side along the crest, dangerous) and San Jacinto (wind & snow). Watch san jan jon report, carry your micro spikes & your ice ax ....you will see patches of snow along the way in the mountains in the desert...
I hosted someone last year who came over from France...he said he never carried more than a liter through the desert, 2023..
love your attitude. enjoy your pct hike. looking forward to following your journey..

Best sun hoody out there IMO is the Jolly Gear Triple Crown Button Down. I’ve had mine for three years and can’t say enough good things about it. I’ve compared it to the OR Echo, various Patagonia sun shirts, Columbia PFGs, REI Sahara, etc.
I even have a dark color Jolly hoody and thought it would lose to lighter colored fabrics for sure, in terms of keeping me cool. Nope!
Jolly hoody is durable (looks brand new after over 1000 miles under a loaded pack), I can’t stink it out (OR Echo smells nasty after less than ten miles), it keeps me cool, dries fast, and the Customer Service is first rate.
The colors change each year. I liked the green in the original run, and year-2 had some wilder colors. Year-3 (this year) has a nice green so I ordered another one. It turns out the fabric had an issue where the pattern rubbed/washed out with use. So Jolly fixed the issue, and is shipping everyone who received defective shirts (cosmetic issue) new shirts for free, including shipping. Doesn’t want the old shirts back. That’s what I call Customer Service.
