Robbie is the new Jay Bilas. Huge Illini fan and huge Robbie Hummel fan. Guy is intelligent, well spoken, not biased, and was an absolute warrior on court.
Bro is definitely Purdue biased, look at any of the clips where they talk about UCONN vs Purdue and the bias really comes out.

Robbie knows his stuff, calls it fairly. The flagrant was a play on the ball and was super soft. TSJ is so athletic that he ends up hitting the rim. But when you’re flying like that, any touch can lead to you landing poorly. That can’t be the basis of whether it’s flagrant. Had it been someone less athletic, the same contact wouldn’t have been flagrant??
Robbie gives Illinois the benefit of the doubt more than anyone - have no idea how some Illinois fans are so mad about a discussion on a flagrant.
Robbie is one of the best game callers as a former player he knows the game. I'm a big Illinois fan. He's a special talent and I enjoy him on the call.

Hummel is great at his job. I agree there should be some subjectivity to head shots when it comes to F1s. I just don't think any vague attempt to block a shot can be considered a basketball play. Draymond Green does a lot of stuff that could be described as a basketball play if you view it from a certain lens, but absolutely deserve a flagrant. Berry's lack of athleticism plays into it. He wasn't within 3 feet of the ball. He knew he wouldn't get within 3 feet of the ball. He is feigning a basketball play to put Shannon on the ground and stop a dunk. Its a flagrant.
Love listening to Robbie call games and also his knowledge and interpretation of the game. I know many Illini fans don't like him, but those are also the same ones that hate EVERYONE who isn't part of the Illini family. Got nothing but respect for him and hope to get a photo with him someday at an Illini game.

Hummel is viewed well in Champaign. After all he is the son of a great tennis player
I am a huge Purdue fan and was living in Minnesota and was at the game when Robbie Hummel tore his ACL. It totally sucked. Then a few years later I tore my ACL playing beach volleyball and completely understood how he felt at that moment.
Hummel is the best. Some Illinois fans can’t stand him. Water is wet. I’m an Illinois fan (as big as there is). Some fans got mad at said F1 that should have been an F2.
Where was the basketball play? He wasn’t within 3 feet of the ball. If that’s not a flagrant, any “basketball play” could be considered fine.
It was excessive and unnecessary. He “tried” only in the case that he attempted. He knew he had 0% chance to block it.
Other than this, Hummel is amazing! I respect you having a strong opinion.
You have to be more careful when swinging your arms near people's faces. Remember what happened to Ayo? Barry wasn't even close to the ball, and it was a lazy reckless play.

I love that Robbie listened to the complaints and then listened to his broadcast to see if he said something he couldn't stand behind. He CARES about the quality of his color commentary.

Robbie your a good broadcaster probably best in the big ten. Only issue with the call you gotta call it for player safety and you gotta call it so the game dont get out of hand. Even though its clearly a basketball play but intentional can be disguised as that as well thats why it has to be called.
I disagree with Robbie's take even though I think it's a reasonable position to hold. Judging intent is hard especially in the context of this game, so I get why NCAA wants clear lines when it comes to blows to the head. I'd rather err on the side of too many flagrants if that makes it less likely that players get seriously injured. Also I'm an Illini fan and definitely don't hate Robbie; think he's a great call.
Robbie is the best on the call, in the big ten in my opinion. My dream is to hear him and Walton call a game next year.
Matt Painter was one I disliked back in the day as an Illini fan. I do think he's a good coach.

I don't think Hummel is hated by illinois fans at all. He is easily the best announcer in college basketball. He is not perfect, but his misses are rare. That doesn't mean you can't disagree with him sometimes

Robbie Hummel is a great commentator , he tells it like it is without any bias unlike about every ex player / commentator especially those from the ACC . Goodman & Fanta Pffffffft I can totally do without both of them !! I like when this Goodman character starts with his bullshit and Hummel speaks over him and shuts him down 😂😂😂

Click bait title? I guess it worked. I am an Illini fan and have never heard another fan say “I hate Robbie Hummel”. Outside of Steven Bardo there is no one else I would rather have on the call. Robbie thanks for voicing your opinion on the call.

If a player who has no chance of blocking a shot, but attempts to, and undercuts the player...ok by you, Robbie? You are not thinking clearly about this. wreckless plays put players careers at risk. The rule is appropriate
I think the producers get in the way of RH actually doing more color commentary. He knows ball, but sometimes it seems like he is force fed generic phrases.

I used to really like Hummel as an announcer. He has become a bit grating for my liking. But it has nothing to do with how I perceive he views Illinois. I feel he is fair with Illinois and generally complimentary, far more complimentary of the program based upon a lack of success in March!
Don’t hate Hummel but he was wrong about that call. Clearly a flagrant foul. He wasn’t within three feet of blocking that ball. Only thing he could is do hit him in the face.
He wasn’t saying it wasn’t a flagrant though. He said during the game it absolutely was a flagrant by the rules but that he hopes they redefine the rule in the offseason

It’s a flagrant because it’s careless and excessive. Obviously he was trying to block the ball not hit him, but when you are that careless and only hit TSJs face; you deserve a flagrant. WE ALL KNOW IT WASNT INTENTIONAL BUT IT WAS BEYOND CARELESS FIR THE AMOUNT IF FORCE BEHIND THE SHOT
