  • In this video, I'll be celebrating Eid Al Adha in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the first time! Eid Al-Adha is one of the biggest days of the year for Muslims all around the world.
After visiting 100 countries, I wanted to experience Eid for the first time in my favorite country, Malaysia. I'll be showing you my first Baju Melayu to showing how Eid salah is done to taking you behind the scenes of Qurban and even showing the big community feasts on Eid.
Eid in Malaysia is truly special and easily the best Eid experience I've ever had.

Welcome to Malaysia, brother. When I heard you are a Palestinian, I can't help but feel a bit sentimental. I would hug you if I were there.
Just wanna point out one thing, the flower on the cow, that's probably some kids playing around since it was never the custom of the Muslims here.
Hope you have a blessed time during your stay here in Malaysia. Free Palestine, from the river to the sea, every single milimeter of it.

Welcome to Malaysia akhi!! Just wanted to point out a few things
    - Both of the Eid holidays are called "Hari Raya" in the Malay language, which means the "Great Day". Eid al Fitr is Hari Raya Aidilfitri while Eid al Adha is Hari Raya Haji Aidiladha (or Hari Raya Haji/Korban). The local greeting that's generally used is "Selamat Hari Raya", Eid Mubarak is less commonly used among locals
    - Where the traditional dress for Malay men is the "Baju Melayu" ("Malay shirt/dress") and typically worn with the songkok cap, the women's equivalent is "Baju Kurung" ("enclosed shirt/dress"). The pointy men's headdress you saw is called "tengkolok" (also called "tanjak" or "destar" among others), and is for ceremonial wear like weddings etc
    - "Surau" is Malay for what are basically the smaller low-key masjids like you said, but the word also refers to the musalla rooms you find in buildings and stuff
    Love from Sarawak 🍉

    Fun facts about Baju Melayu:
    1) 5 buttons on it represents 5 pillar of islam
    2) The 3 pockets on it represents - Islam, Iman and Ihsan
    3) Samping that the Malay wear is to cover our private part and dignity
There is another variant of Baju Melayu which is 'Teluk Belanga' that only has 1 button that symbolise our Tauhid.

Yes, most masjids or suraus in Malaysia, especially in Selangor, follow this tradition. Every state has a different culture. For example, in Kelantan and Terengganu, they perform Kurban only with their family members, so they slaughter the animals near their homes. In Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Johor, there is a common culture, as shown in the video. The decoration or drawing on the cows is not a tradition in Malaysia. It must be Rohingyas/Myanmars/Bangladeshis, or other people from outside Malaysia bringing that strange tradition here.

The first colorful headgear is 'Tengkolok', also known as 'Tanjak'. It used to be worn by the Malays starting around 14th century (Classical Malay era), a simple design of the arabic turban. Back then it was worn by the Malay Sultans, the ministers, the admirals, navy officers, generals, knights and soldiers. Nowadays it is generally worn by the male bride during wedding ceremony. But with the revival of the Islamic Malay sultanate era cultures and traditions among the youngsters, some wear it anywhere they go.
The 'Songkok' is generally a local Malays fez hat, introduced with the influence of the Ottoman Empire in early 19th century.
So yeau, welcome to Malaysia. We welcome all Palestinians as our brothers as sisters. Our prayers be with you all, amiin.
