Great video. Thank you for your insights about spring drive and kinetic. I bought a Seiko kinetic watch in 2008 at the Stanstead duty free shop on my way to the states. It is the deep blue auto relay special edition. It has a sapphire glass. The dial is mesmerizing. It has a blue in the blue dial. It's hard to explain with words but when you wear it you understand. My Seiko also has an internal bezel and the crown is at 9 o'clock. I paid $CA400. I love that watch so much. She became my grail watch. I still wonder to this day why Seiko stop producing kinetic watches. I had to change the capacitor in June 2024. Keep up the good work. Merry Christmas. Cheers from Montreal.
I got a fully lumed Seiko Kinetic 5M42-0D30 for about $200 and it's been my daily driver! Great size, looks nice, very practical. And because I work in the trades, I'm always moving to keep it charged. It's basically my "grail watch" apart from that I wish my model had a larger power reserve (more than a week) and better water resistance (3ATM). Those were solved in future Kinetic models, but I've had trouble finding one I like the look of that is in a smaller size like 38mm.
Good to hear other owners saying good things about the Kinetic line👏🏻 I saw that most of them come in a bigger package than 38mm, maybe due to the movement itself and rotor included.
If it does not have a smooth sweep, solar is a better option, lasting ard 25yrs. I think Seiko thinks the same that is why Kinetic was phased out. Bulova precisionist movement would be more captivating.
A photovoltaic cell under the dial accomplishes the same thing. Citizen does it that way. It’s easy to fake a smooth movement of the seconds hand. The Bulova Precisionist watches do it despite being quartz. I think they need big lithium cells because they use more electric power, possibly due to the 262,144 Hz oscillator rather than the usual 32,768 Hz one usual with quartz watches.
Seiko did the same thing with their solar models, but a high beat quartz would consume a lot of energy, much more than a solar panel or a kinetic capacitor could handle.
Nice video and watch! I loved the explanation of the technology. Just a piece of advice: you should lower the music volume, as it makes it harder to understand you, and it can be distracting
Kinetic is far different from Spring Drive , they are not the same . The second hand on a spring drive is a smooth constant sweep the "$150 alternative" isn't even a comparison .
@@WristSaga I figured , I am at work watching you tube videos with CC on . Sometimes makes it difficult . The Kinetic movement is still a great movement and even owned a Seiko Kinetic watch for a few years , had a colored energy gauge showing how much was stored was pretty cool .

Kinetic is a great watch movement. I have one for more than 20 years. Every day wear, no battery change.
Thanks for this video, it's nice to see love for quartz on TH-cam.

Nice video, love the comparison between spring drive and kinetic.
Thank you! I think it is a comparison to make because both share the same perspective✌🏻
Very cool watch. I need to get one! And, that dark (blue?) strap looks great. What is it?
Nice video and watch!

Thanks! Will keep that in mind next video✌🏻
Click bait kinetic is nothing like spring drive Avoid

That was exactly my point in the video 😏

just wait until you learn about citizen... with pure sapphire glass on top of it... you wouldnt touch this shit with 10 foot pole
