Mutation (Types of Mutation- Gene Mutation) Part 01 studio.youtube...
Chromosomes are thread-like structures where the genetic material DNA is packaged. They are located in the nucleus of cells and undergo condensation before cell division. Like any other processes, the chromosome may encounter random genetic changes or be affected by it. This kind of chromosomal mutation usually occurs during any errors in cell division.
Structural chromosomal mutations are classified into four:
    1.Deletion
    2.Duplication
    3. Inversion
    4. Translocation (or shift places).
    1. Deletion
This type of mutation occurs when a part of the DNA is not duplicated or is lost during DNA replication. The size of this region can either be a mere nucleotide or can be large as an entire chromosome.
    2. Duplication
This type of mutation occurs when an extra copy of a region (or regions) in the DNA is produced.
    3. Inversion
During inversion, a portion in the chromosome is reversed and gets inserted back into the chromosome.
    4. Translocation
Translocation happens when a fragmented chromosome tends to join with a nonhomologous chromosome. This newly-formed segment then detaches from the chromosome and moves to a new position on another chromosome.
Spontaneous Mutation. Spontaneous mutations are the result of errors in natural biological processes
Induced mutations are due to agents in the environment that cause changes in DNA structure. The agents used for mutation is called mutagens
    Tyeos of Mutagens
    1. Physical Mutagens : Ionizing radiation X rays, Alpha, Beta, Gamma Radiation
Non ionizing radiation : UV radiation
    2.Chemical Mutagens
    Alkylating and Hydroxylating agent
Nitrogen and Sulphur mustard, Methyl methane sulphonate, Ethyl methane sulphonate, Nitrous acid, Acridine, 5- bromouracil, Formaldehyde
    Application of plant mutation
    1. Mutation causes morphological, anatomical and chemical changes in plant
    2. Building resistance of a medicinal plant towards certain disease.
    3. Favorable changes increases the yield and active constituent in plant.
    4. For the improvement of crop
    5. Development of new varities.
    Examples
Dioscorea speceies- Tuber yield and disogenin content increases by muation indiced by radiation
Capsicum seed (Capsicum annum) treated with so
