I have no problem with EA trying to make more money for delivering a good product…. But their product is already profitable, has serious issues, and EA keeps firing people who can help with those issues sooooo… pretty sure all they’re gonna do is pocket the extra money and let the game die, which is pretty sad.

unfortunatly this is a likly scenario , they did it with planetside 2 ,game was successfull but they started slowly abandoning it while increasing prices . the game was a buggy mess and once they had reached there qoutas they sold it off. the new devs revived the game but under EA it was a blatant cash milking process, like every new gun was the same gun as before ,no exageration, the same gun just semi auto or had more zoom and they charged like 10 euros for it, now its still expensive but atleast you can earn ingame currency and get it for free eventually
@@davidcorodeanu4535 Theoretically, it'd be the around the same amount of levels. Old BP was 110, current is 2 60, so 120 to finish. In practice, since there's 1 BP every half season, you'd have half the time to hit 60 to the BP before it gets cycled by the next BP. So if the season is 3 months, you'd have 1.5 months to finish the first 60 instead of the full 3 months to finish 110. On top of paying $10 twice and not being able to use Apex coins to pay, making the coins less useful. They also supposedly took out useless stuff from the BP like trackers and replaced it with crafting mats and more packs.
i went to play a match and checked the players in game was about 60 thousand which is still alot but the average like 2 months age was 200k to 300k average players, so the player base is certainly taking a hit and rightfully so

Knowing that EA is going out of their way to completely exclude FTP players with the battle pass rework. It bums me out. They are caring more about money than their player base. It’s going to be sad to watch this game die out in the direction they want it to go.
ofc it is. currently with have "Legendary reactive variants" for the 30-30 Repeater at lvl 100 and 110. In the future the same will be the case for the legendary skins. For example instead of a white/purple themed Voidwalker Seer Skin there could be a black/red themed skin variant.
You can tell that merchant was trying his hardest to see the bright side of this change but the bright side is completely overcasted by not just the price but every single thing thats wrong with this game right now. As a literal day 1 player this just feels like were being repeatedly stabbed in the back and its really sickening. I still have a very strong love and passion for this game but if none of this gets fixed that'll definitely fizzle out
Already wasn't playing this season because Duos was the only mode I really played, now to find out I can't even grind and earn the battle pass, seems like a good time to find a new game.

Honestly, maybe I’m alone in this, but I have played since launch. I have stuck out all the screw ups and the cheaters and the game generally just getting worse and worse… but ultimately the core game is fun. However, what kept me coming back and playing regularly was the fact that I could grind out enough coins for the battle pass the next season. That is what kept me engaged and playing through it all…. So now what? Just because I don’t drop tons of money on the battle passes they don’t want me to play? I am of no value? I guess I’m done then. …. Without that reward for my time there feels like no more point given the state of the game

I would be willing to spend some money on the battle pass but going from having to pay 10$ one time to having to pay 20$ per season is just insane. Having an option to pay 700 coins and 2,5$ (and don't having a split) would be fair IMO.

Its crazy that they want us to spend money on something that people sometimes cant even complete in time. Its actually adding an aditional 10 levels to the whole season, and as someone who doesnt play every day, I usually end the BP within the last week or so of the season. For people that spend less time playing the game, they probably not even finish the BP while paying upwards of $20 per split. Definately not worth imo.

I also buy every skin for my main. It's pretty common for people with decent jobs who enjoy Apex. Anytime I have extra coins after a skin purchase I grab a few Apex packs to hopefully get another heirloom sooner. Some people spend $100k on their car or on home renovations or $1k a year in their PC, but you think it's outlandish to spend a $200 a year on a game they play 1000+ hours a year?

It also screws everyone who does pay. It's 10 more tiers every season with slightly more rewards, but costs twice as much per season to buy and some things you get are now almost useless. People who don't pay now need to spend, and people who already spend now need to spend even more to get almost the same stuff.
Not really. All of my 20 friends in apex wont and dont care, nor play for the pass. And we’re smart enough to spend it when its worth it, cuz we grown men and can afford 10 dollars a month. You know how much it costs to stay alive? Yeah i can afford 10$ every 3 or 4 months.

I'm not going to, even if I dont spend (i did btw, just not anymore now). The real issue is I just cant enjoy the game meeting cheaters so often and this season been the most terrible by far. If I can't enjoy it, I won't play and won't spend.
And that's perfectly fine, it's just that EA and other companies just don't acknowledge the fact there should be more ways to make the game fun, and still make money without making the fanbase mad. I think the Finals does a good job of this, you can unlock all of the weapons and gadgets, and get really cool cosmetics just by playing the game. And if you really like a certain skin, you can blow a few bucks on it.
Same bro. I’ve never really cared about cosmetics in games. I’ve been playing apex since the very beginning, so I’ve definitely bought some stuff. But I’ve probably spent less than $100 total over 5 years on this game. It’s just not a big deal to me tbh.
Kids and people from other places outside of the US can’t get the battle pass anymore. Not every kid can ask mom to buy them the BP every month and for most countries it can be twice (or more) as expensive than in the US. Casual players like me will be out too, since yes it might be affordable for a lot still, but people have other priorities instead of buying a battle pass every 6 weeks. They’d much rather spend that money elsewhere. This decision screwed most of the Apex community. It was fun while it lasted.
Well said. I play with my wife and they want us to pay double! No way! Every season we saved those coins to buy another BP. That hooks us too play this game. Now we have to find some other games.
Number of players getting lower each month. This is the last effort to vacuum as much money out of the game before it’s shelved in a couple years. Don’t gaslight us into saying this is better for the “players.” It’s so VERY obvious it’s for the “Owners.” I’m all for them making money, but use the money to make the game better; not line the CEO’s pockets.
My previous long comment the whole TL:DR summary can be broken down by one simple point here. 1. Fortnite will refund you and more, give you more rewards then apex, while giving you more with the free version to. 2. Apex actively tries to scam you and give you bad deals. Maybe just provide a good product? and people wouldn't be upset when they spend on it. it wouldn't even be a consideration id just buy it. why do you have to make it hard respawn?
I’m just gonna be honest. They refuse to fix the matchmaking or even acknowledge it’s an issue. So even if they add more free stuff or more rewards(for more money btw) it doesn’t matter to me. The game hasn’t been fun for awhile now and it actively punishes you for doing somewhat decent. I get 3 kills and all the sudden I’m going up against the best the game has to offer like I just stepped into a million dollar tournament. Like bruh I’m just trying to play pubs to have fun…. I’m done with this game
You would think that offering better skins and selling skins at a more reasonable price would be the best way to increase profits, but the sad reality is that they probably worked out the numbers and probabilities and found this route to be the most profitable. That and they probably think that due to decrease in player count that the short term profits is a far better option than the long term approach.
Instead of the old One BP of 110 levels, now you will have Two BPs with 60 levels each in One Season, so I guess they just split the old one into two seperate passes? progression might be the same but I suspect youre gonna have to play more regularly to finish the pass every split, before I used to chillout in the first half and do like 35-40 lvls and then around the season end start grinding, the end of season they would even help out with battle pass boosts in the limited time events rewards, so it will be interesting to see what they are going to do in the new ones, it does sound grindy if we need to play regularly
It doesn't just F over F2P players but also people who buy Apex Coin bundles. They have to buy the Apex Coin bundles for a skin bundle in store and then another separate £10+ and then another £10+ for 2 battlepasses. Apex Coins invested and saved on the account just lost value for nothing.
Just hearing 40$ battle pass sounds ridiculous. I’ve been okay with there shitty practice but now is just dumb. I love this game but man this is just stupidly disappointing
The problem with apex in the last year is obvious. It happened when head apex devs that had been with the game and created the game left about 2 years ago. The game becoming really bad lagged because the content delay from creation to implementation is around a year. That means about one year after the original dev exodus from respawn, we saw some pretty bad content changes. Their yearly massive updates have been good, but major gameplay changes like mmr and ranked changes are what occurred. If you look at the apex player numbers over the past few years the change in player base is obvious. The past year has seen apex drop to about 1/3 of its ATH. From launch to 2022 apex saw a steady increase in players to becoming a monumental sized player base. Here is the kicker why we are seeing and will continue to see terrible monetization strategies. EA is all about revenue. What happens when you lose half your player base? You lose about half your revenue… the accounting offices at EA see this and that’s when the corpo hammers come in. If revenue is fine, no one complains. When revenue drops, the finance and accounting people come in and start making demands. You know who isn’t good at making video games? Accountants and finance people. Their solution is the player based has now halved, so we’ll double the amount of battle pass sales and add another currency to the game to try and generate more revenue. It’s a trash fest.
Apex is going the Overwatch route: - Ultimate Battle Pass (Bp , 20 extra lvls , 2 Exclusive skins) cost 40€ , just like 2 Premium + Bp in 1 season - The Overwatch BP , while it’s still buyable with In-game currency , it gives you just 600 coins , not enough to buy the next one (which costs 1000 coins) Gotta admit that this looks pretty similar , the only difference is that the value of the Apex BP is wayy better then Overwatch’s one , the only reason you want to buy the OW2 one is for the Mythic Shards , which basically allow you to get a skin that should cost 80€ for 10€
I don’t play overwatch but that’s good perspective. Everyone’s acting like this is the worst thing in the world, but I know it can’t be that bad compared to other games. I played nba 2k for many years, and their micro transactions were literally insane. I also hear people complain all the time about Destiny 2. It’s all about perspective. Compared to other games, this isn’t that bad.

12:26 As someone that used to be a Community Manager for a mobile game publishing company (in other words, the equivalent of the marketing team on EA side), this is my speculation as to how the team approached the community feedback. 1) Community expresses criticism or feedback on wanting less low-value items (whether that's emotes, charms, epic skins, insert-your-opinion-here) and/or more high value items in the BP. 2) Designers / Producers think "How do we satisfy their request without increasing our expenses and/or flooding the economy with currency?" (aka, more dev work and/or less purchased currency) 3) Decision: Remove low-value items, add high-value items, increase currency reward, balance it all out by converting Apex Coins price to USD. I am not surprised they did something like this, but what I worry about is retention; not just because people are upset by the change, but because non-BP owners will have less incentive to play frequently. I don't doubt that revenue will stay the same, if not increase, but I speculate that there will be a not-insignificant drop off in how often casual, F2P players will play. EDIT: TL;DR - Nothing happens in a vacuum. Every change must be counter-balanced somewhere.
Only recently finally got a squad of friends to play with, for about 2 seasons we had a damn good run, although I've been playing since season 8, I genuinely can't even say I blame them for not wanting to play any more.
I fully believe this will cut the player bass by at least half, battle pass grinding is the reason most players come back to the game. I have been grinding apex since season 4 and the formula has been, play at the start of the season nonstop for a week or to 2, then come back to nonstop apex at the end of the season to finish the battle pass and maybe rank up. I have enough money to buy more battle passes but there is no way I am going to and I would say about 80% of players feel the same way. If ranked isn’t incredible next season I think it’s really over.
Honestly it’s not much of a problem for me because I still spend some money on the game and for me it seems like I’m just spending the money for more things I won’t be buying the 20 doller pass because I feal that is a scam but I think the 10 doller one is fine.
Raise the cost of the BP from 950AC to 1500AC, and offer it discounted to $10 irl money; this wouldn't push all the free to play players away (most of the cost being subsidized by the battlepass, a lot more people can pay $4 for 2 BPs, from basically free to $20 is wild), AND many (most?) people that can/will shell out $10 for the battlepass would also pay a discounted cost and save the AC for cosmetics/events
I don't think it solves the issue 1500AC it's more than u can get in one BP, for me the problem is not the 10$, is the fact that u could buy a BP if u completed the last one, no additional money, if they charged 1$ I'd still wouldn't buy it because it was free before, and I that's the problem, it's not like people don't have an extra 10$ at the end of the month, is not much money, but it is money for something that used to be free

i loved apex so much i had it installed two times, one on steam and one on ea app for my 2 accounts. i just uninstalled both yesterday and basically reinstalled gta 5 just because im so fed up with the game issues and now this blatant bp greed. hiswattson basically begging for help with cheaters to repawn and getting ignored, imagine a streamer with constant 5k live twitch audience each stream just sums it all up. i hope watos switch game honestly.
I wouldn't feel so much animosity to this if the game weren't in such an unplayable state. They're asking more and more and delivering less and less. It genuinely feels as though they are actively trying to kill the game.

Whats sad is that those popular apex “influencers” will still get and nobody learns nothing. People need to vote with their wallets with this, NBA2K and Madden. We can’t keep letting these companies be greedy and think it’s alright when they’re not improving anything regarding the game.
Just a little correction: You can spend Exotic shards on reactive skin recolors as well. Also, you can use Crafting Materials to craft anything in your Legends locker, that you have not unlocked yet (emotes and finishers included). So, there is still use for them for most people. That being said, my biggest problem is the fact that they want double my money and they are making me have to reach 10 levels more than they do now. Right now I have to reach level 110, but with this new system it is basically 120 levels if I want to unlock everything. I already have a difficult time unlocking everything right now, since I can't play all the time, and I also want to play other games. That really makes me qestion whether it still makes sense for me to even consider buying it.
I quite after the final fantasy event as the writing was on the wall they have gotten so predatory in their practices I’ve played sense season 1 spent more then a reasonable amount of money on the game but it felt like it was only ever getting more and more expensive to get stuff that I had previously gotten for a reasonable amount of money or free or I could earn if I put in effort but now effort gets you absolutely nothing in this game
Ultimately the benefit of letting people grind to collect Crafting Metals or letting people grind to collect apex coins to use on the next Battle Pass was an INCENTIVE to keep A TON of players.... well.... playing and subsequently keep the game alive. Because I could attain this skin or that pass. It was a decent balance, some freebies if you dont wanna spend money as a gesture of appreciation for players. And if you DO want more, you can always spend some money. I think this was an L move and honestly idk between this and the amount of cheaters steadily plaguing APEX, I wouldnt be surprised if more people opted not to play anymore. Shiet I've uninstalled Overwatch and never looked back. Could happen to you too APEX. :)
exactly .... my own incentives were the battle pass and ranked, ranked grind for bragging privileges and battle pass for casual pubbing while still feeling like im progressing at something... ranked is ruined with rampant cheating, now they are hard paywalling the battle pass, at that point theres no reason to play anymore
Ik nobody will read this specifically @The Gaming Merchant but I want to have my word in this issue, The crafting materials when buying the collection event would take you to buy both battle passes in 4 season which will cost you $80, which is out right awful, and even then like it was mentioned EA is slowly taking away buying events with crafting, making more currency useless every single season, we have 5 currency’s in the game and all of them seem useless now, legend tokens just existing since there is a legend every other season and useless recolours, coins now seem to be useless since they were mainly used to save up of the battle pass for many people (over priced skins as well), heiloom shards are god awful for people who haven’t even got their first one since they were playing as well as legends not even getting legend specific heirlooms (Fuse was the last legend to get one in SEASON 18!!!) and now exotic shards for universal heirlooms that nobody asked for and probably not going to use since there are better heirlooms to buy for other character
It kinda sucks people are mainly talking about this battle pass monotization change while the game is almost unplayable for people since the addition of quads. My game crashes almost every other match of quads I play and even crashes in other modes now whereas before the update the game maybe crashed twice all first split

The reason that there is already such a large player base that doesn't spend money on the game to purchase weapon skins, character skins etc is because what they release is of low quality and not exclusive enough to actually invest into. The game doesn't feel safe to spend money on especially with the leve of enjoyment we get with cheaters in the game all the time. I'm sure theres people who would rather buy cheats than cosmetics and that really tells you a lot about the game.

Matchmaking is horrible. Servers are horrible at times. No audio feedback on enemy players - I hear my m8s better than enemies. So many buggs in ranked, teaming players, CHEATING and lack of motivating rewards to play it. I don't want to to quit but I've had enough.
I think this has been very dramatised by so many content creators. Why do people value apparel and their access to it so highly when it doesn't modify the gameplay? I've been buying the Battle Pass with free Apex Coins and now I'm going to miss out, I really don't care, my eyes glaze over when I see others' skins anyway.

No matter what they add it is not ok to pay 20 dollars per season. First we get reactive recolors for 160 dollars , they removed it and added it back in full force, generic heirlooms for 300 dollars, removing thematic events and replacing them with gambling events , adding new shards for recolors making your apex coins and legend tokens even more useless, increasing the price of apex coins in store , increasing the price of skins in store ( 2500 to 2950) and telling you it's a discount. I’ve been playing this game from ss 0-21 and the game has barely changed since the game came out… they only care about taking your money, I’m done with this game. It’s a spit to the face.
Some people DO spend 40+ dollars a season, but spelling it out for them doesn’t give you a good look, EA… they forgot they were talking to “the community” of shareholders on their golden thrones about why they don’t have more diamonds.
"getting rid of useless rewards from the battlepass" is basically transferring those useless rewards into apex packs which in turn makes the extra apex packs per bp, useless
i don't think they really understand the severity of this bc yea oh wow some ppl would say its only 10 dollars that not much or oh i can easily give up 20 dollars for this battle pass np. but dats my main problem its 20 USD for them but what about everyone one else that don't live in the US its not $20. More like 40 dollars times 2 so for me and every where else in the world it might be 80 dollars for 1 battle pass i never had this problem before bc the price of apex coins never changed bc it was always yea i buy the 4k coins pack for the price shown but now that it real life money off my credit card its not just 40 dollars.
Pretty sure the reason they did this is to counter cheaters. Buying the battle pass with actual money makes it so that the cheaters couldn't just keep switching accounts where they have a fake collection of apex coins. Think that is what is going on with this.
It's actually hurting players that only do grind to get a hands on with Legendary/Premium Skins. Isn't the essence of the game to keep alive is to have a consistent active players on a daily basis? Even with players that don't even spend a single $$$ of the game, they give tractions on what's being played right now hence why the game is popular aside getting $$$. Why fix what's not even broken..seems like typical EA move.
I was planning to grind one last time, but after the latest collection event, my pc turned into a potato fr. So I had to uninstall it since these was no point in playing at 60fps avg. And, now that I've seen how things are changing, I highly doubt it that I'll be returning anytime soon.
i think a way to solve this while keeping the half season battle pass and the buying with apex coins is let people buy one half season with coins and if they want the next one it has to be real money
I quit Apex months ago, think it was the season right before they added Alter. I quit mostly because of the sweats and the cheaters, felt so hard to be a casual player. So I’ve been really enjoying getting into Fortnite and moving into that community, much easier game to play casually. All that said, I still love this game and was keeping up with it, it was my fave game for years for a reason. This change only really solidifies me staying away from Apex 😅

I have no problem with EA trying to make more money for delivering a good product…. But their product is already profitable, has serious issues, and EA keeps firing people who can help with those issues sooooo… pretty sure all they’re gonna do is pocket the extra money and let the game die, which is pretty sad.

unfortunatly this is a likly scenario , they did it with planetside 2 ,game was successfull but they started slowly abandoning it while increasing prices . the game was a buggy mess and once they had reached there qoutas they sold it off. the new devs revived the game but under EA it was a blatant cash milking process, like every new gun was the same gun as before ,no exageration, the same gun just semi auto or had more zoom and they charged like 10 euros for it, now its still expensive but atleast you can earn ingame currency and get it for free eventually

Theoretically, it'd be the around the same amount of levels. Old BP was 110, current is 2 60, so 120 to finish.
In practice, since there's 1 BP every half season, you'd have half the time to hit 60 to the BP before it gets cycled by the next BP. So if the season is 3 months, you'd have 1.5 months to finish the first 60 instead of the full 3 months to finish 110. On top of paying $10 twice and not being able to use Apex coins to pay, making the coins less useful.
They also supposedly took out useless stuff from the BP like trackers and replaced it with crafting mats and more packs.

i went to play a match and checked the players in game was about 60 thousand which is still alot but the average like 2 months age was 200k to 300k average players, so the player base is certainly taking a hit and rightfully so

Knowing that EA is going out of their way to completely exclude FTP players with the battle pass rework. It bums me out. They are caring more about money than their player base. It’s going to be sad to watch this game die out in the direction they want it to go.

currently with have "Legendary reactive variants" for the 30-30 Repeater at lvl 100 and 110.
In the future the same will be the case for the legendary skins.
For example instead of a white/purple themed Voidwalker Seer Skin there could be a black/red themed skin variant.
You can tell that merchant was trying his hardest to see the bright side of this change but the bright side is completely overcasted by not just the price but every single thing thats wrong with this game right now. As a literal day 1 player this just feels like were being repeatedly stabbed in the back and its really sickening. I still have a very strong love and passion for this game but if none of this gets fixed that'll definitely fizzle out
Already wasn't playing this season because Duos was the only mode I really played, now to find out I can't even grind and earn the battle pass, seems like a good time to find a new game.

Honestly, maybe I’m alone in this, but I have played since launch. I have stuck out all the screw ups and the cheaters and the game generally just getting worse and worse… but ultimately the core game is fun. However, what kept me coming back and playing regularly was the fact that I could grind out enough coins for the battle pass the next season. That is what kept me engaged and playing through it all…. So now what? Just because I don’t drop tons of money on the battle passes they don’t want me to play? I am of no value? I guess I’m done then. …. Without that reward for my time there feels like no more point given the state of the game

Its crazy that they want us to spend money on something that people sometimes cant even complete in time. Its actually adding an aditional 10 levels to the whole season, and as someone who doesnt play every day, I usually end the BP within the last week or so of the season. For people that spend less time playing the game, they probably not even finish the BP while paying upwards of $20 per split. Definately not worth imo.
If you can't complete BP even with double stars, that's a skill issue. never been a BP i couldn't max out with just 4 hrs a day for 4 days.

I also buy every skin for my main. It's pretty common for people with decent jobs who enjoy Apex. Anytime I have extra coins after a skin purchase I grab a few Apex packs to hopefully get another heirloom sooner. Some people spend $100k on their car or on home renovations or $1k a year in their PC, but you think it's outlandish to spend a $200 a year on a game they play 1000+ hours a year?

It also screws everyone who does pay. It's 10 more tiers every season with slightly more rewards, but costs twice as much per season to buy and some things you get are now almost useless. -Editable UI (like streamers have the overlay on hp)

I'm not going to, even if I dont spend (i did btw, just not anymore now). The real issue is I just cant enjoy the game meeting cheaters so often and this season been the most terrible by far. If I can't enjoy it, I won't play and won't spend.
And that's perfectly fine, it's just that EA and other companies just don't acknowledge the fact there should be more ways to make the game fun, and still make money without making the fanbase mad. I think the Finals does a good job of this, you can unlock all of the weapons and gadgets, and get really cool cosmetics just by playing the game. And if you really like a certain skin, you can blow a few bucks on it.
Same bro. I’ve never really cared about cosmetics in games. I’ve been playing apex since the very beginning, so I’ve definitely bought some stuff. But I’ve probably spent less than $100 total over 5 years on this game. It’s just not a big deal to me tbh.
Kids and people from other places outside of the US can’t get the battle pass anymore. Not every kid can ask mom to buy them the BP every month and for most countries it can be twice (or more) as expensive than in the US. Casual players like me will be out too, since yes it might be affordable for a lot still, but people have other priorities instead of buying a battle pass every 6 weeks. They’d much rather spend that money elsewhere. This decision screwed most of the Apex community. It was fun while it lasted.

Number of players getting lower each month. This is the last effort to vacuum as much money out of the game before it’s shelved in a couple years. Don’t gaslight us into saying this is better for the “players.” It’s so VERY obvious it’s for the “Owners.” I’m all for them making money, but use the money to make the game better; not line the CEO’s pockets.
My previous long comment the whole TL:DR summary can be broken down by one simple point here.
1. Fortnite will refund you and more, give you more rewards then apex, while giving you more with the free version to.
2. Apex actively tries to scam you and give you bad deals.

I’m just gonna be honest. They refuse to fix the matchmaking or even acknowledge it’s an issue. So even if they add more free stuff or more rewards(for more money btw) it doesn’t matter to me.
The game hasn’t been fun for awhile now and it actively punishes you for doing somewhat decent. I get 3 kills and all the sudden I’m going up against the best the game has to offer like I just stepped into a million dollar tournament. Like bruh I’m just trying to play pubs to have fun….

You would think that offering better skins and selling skins at a more reasonable price would be the best way to increase profits, but the sad reality is that they probably worked out the numbers and probabilities and found this route to be the most profitable. That and they probably think that due to decrease in player count that the short term profits is a far better option than the long term approach.

Instead of the old One BP of 110 levels, now you will have Two BPs with 60 levels each in One Season, so I guess they just split the old one into two seperate passes?
progression might be the same but I suspect youre gonna have to play more regularly to finish the pass every split, before I used to chillout in the first half and do like 35-40 lvls and then around the season end start grinding, the end of season they would even help out with battle pass boosts in the limited time events rewards, so it will be interesting to see what they are going to do in the new ones, it does sound grindy if we need to play regularly

It doesn't just F over F2P players but also people who buy Apex Coin bundles.
They have to buy the Apex Coin bundles for a skin bundle in store and then another separate £10+ and then another £10+ for 2 battlepasses.
Apex Coins invested and saved on the account just lost value for nothing.

Just hearing 40$ battle pass sounds ridiculous. I’ve been okay with there shitty practice but now is just dumb. I love this game but man this is just stupidly disappointing
The problem with apex in the last year is obvious. It happened when head apex devs that had been with the game and created the game left about 2 years ago. The game becoming really bad lagged because the content delay from creation to implementation is around a year. That means about one year after the original dev exodus from respawn, we saw some pretty bad content changes. Their yearly massive updates have been good, but major gameplay changes like mmr and ranked changes are what occurred. If you look at the apex player numbers over the past few years the change in player base is obvious. The past year has seen apex drop to about 1/3 of its ATH. From launch to 2022 apex saw a steady increase in players to becoming a monumental sized player base.
Here is the kicker why we are seeing and will continue to see terrible monetization strategies. EA is all about revenue. What happens when you lose half your player base? You lose about half your revenue… the accounting offices at EA see this and that’s when the corpo hammers come in. If revenue is fine, no one complains. When revenue drops, the finance and accounting people come in and start making demands. You know who isn’t good at making video games? Accountants and finance people. Their solution is the player based has now halved, so we’ll double the amount of battle pass sales and add another currency to the game to try and generate more revenue. It’s a trash fest.
Apex is going the Overwatch route:
- Ultimate Battle Pass (Bp , 20 extra lvls , 2 Exclusive skins) cost 40€ , just like 2 Premium + Bp in 1 season
- The Overwatch BP , while it’s still buyable with In-game currency , it gives you just 600 coins , not enough to buy the next one (which costs 1000 coins)
Gotta admit that this looks pretty similar , the only difference is that the value of the Apex BP is wayy better then Overwatch’s one , the only reason you want to buy the OW2 one is for the Mythic Shards , which basically allow you to get a skin that should cost 80€ for 10€
I don’t play overwatch but that’s good perspective. Everyone’s acting like this is the worst thing in the world, but I know it can’t be that bad compared to other games. I played nba 2k for many years, and their micro transactions were literally insane. I also hear people complain all the time about Destiny 2. It’s all about perspective. Compared to other games, this isn’t that bad.

And the game is free to play. These games are light years apart. I spent a gross amount of money on 2k over the years. I probably haven’t spent more than $100 since the Apex came out 5 years ago. 12:26 As someone that used to be a Community Manager for a mobile game publishing company (in other words, the equivalent of the marketing team on EA side), this is my speculation as to how the team approached the community feedback.
1) Community expresses criticism or feedback on wanting less low-value items (whether that's emotes, charms, epic skins, insert-your-opinion-here) and/or more high value items in the BP.
2) Designers / Producers think "How do we satisfy their request without increasing our expenses and/or flooding the economy with currency?" (aka, more dev work and/or less purchased currency)
3) Decision: Remove low-value items, add high-value items, increase currency reward, balance it all out by converting Apex Coins price to USD.
I am not surprised they did something like this, but what I worry about is retention; not just because people are upset by the change, but because non-BP owners will have less incentive to play frequently. I don't doubt that revenue will stay the same, if not increase, but I speculate that there will be a not-insignificant drop off in how often casual, F2P players will play.
EDIT: TL;DR - Nothing happens in a vacuum. Every change must be counter-balanced somewhere.

Only recently finally got a squad of friends to play with, for about 2 seasons we had a damn good run, although I've been playing since season 8, I genuinely can't even say I blame them for not wanting to play any more.

I fully believe this will cut the player bass by at least half, battle pass grinding is the reason most players come back to the game. I have been grinding apex since season 4 and the formula has been, play at the start of the season nonstop for a week or to 2, then come back to nonstop apex at the end of the season to finish the battle pass and maybe rank up. I have enough money to buy more battle passes but there is no way I am going to and I would say about 80% of players feel the same way. If ranked isn’t incredible next season I think it’s really over.

Honestly it’s not much of a problem for me because I still spend some money on the game and for me it seems like I’m just spending the money for more things I won’t be buying the 20 doller pass because I feal that is a scam but I think the 10 doller one is fine.
The events that don’t allow you to craft any skins are called Milestone Events
Raise the cost of the BP from 950AC to 1500AC, and offer it discounted to $10 irl money; this wouldn't push all the free to play players away (most of the cost being subsidized by the battlepass, a lot more people can pay $4 for 2 BPs, from basically free to $20 is wild), AND many (most?) people that can/will shell out $10 for the battlepass would also pay a discounted cost and save the AC for cosmetics/events

I don't think it solves the issue 1500AC it's more than u can get in one BP, for me the problem is not the 10$, is the fact that u could buy a BP if u completed the last one, no additional money, if they charged 1$ I'd still wouldn't buy it because it was free before, and I that's the problem, it's not like people don't have an extra 10$ at the end of the month, is not much money, but it is money for something that used to be free
@@juandiegomejia8299technically you would be able to, keep in mind the free track gives 400 per season also. So 1200+400 would at least allow you to get it once a season for free. Unless the free track is disabled if you own the premium one? Not sure how it works today

i loved apex so much i had it installed two times, one on steam and one on ea app for my 2 accounts. i just uninstalled both yesterday and basically reinstalled gta 5 just because im so fed up with the game issues and now this blatant bp greed. hiswattson basically begging for help with cheaters to repawn and getting ignored, imagine a streamer with constant 5k live twitch audience each stream just sums it all up. i hope watos switch game honestly.

I wouldn't feel so much animosity to this if the game weren't in such an unplayable state. They're asking more and more and delivering less and less. It genuinely feels as though they are actively trying to kill the game.
I say give us an advanced BP, another layer that can be bought with apex coins but gives fewer rewards than premium, but more than than the free one.

Games been dead… stoped playing in season 16… feels different now that most original devs have moved on.
Just a little correction: You can spend Exotic shards on reactive skin recolors as well. Also, you can use Crafting Materials to craft anything in your Legends locker, that you have not unlocked yet (emotes and finishers included). So, there is still use for them for most people. That being said, my biggest problem is the fact that they want double my money and they are making me have to reach 10 levels more than they do now. Right now I have to reach level 110, but with this new system it is basically 120 levels if I want to unlock everything. I already have a difficult time unlocking everything right now, since I can't play all the time, and I also want to play other games. That really makes me qestion whether it still makes sense for me to even consider buying it.
I quite after the final fantasy event as the writing was on the wall they have gotten so predatory in their practices I’ve played sense season 1 spent more then a reasonable amount of money on the game but it felt like it was only ever getting more and more expensive to get stuff that I had previously gotten for a reasonable amount of money or free or I could earn if I put in effort but now effort gets you absolutely nothing in this game

Ultimately the benefit of letting people grind to collect Crafting Metals or letting people grind to collect apex coins to use on the next Battle Pass was an INCENTIVE to keep A TON of players.... well.... playing and subsequently keep the game alive. Because I could attain this skin or that pass. It was a decent balance, some freebies if you dont wanna spend money as a gesture of appreciation for players. And if you DO want more, you can always spend some money.
I think this was an L move and honestly idk between this and the amount of cheaters steadily plaguing APEX, I wouldnt be surprised if more people opted not to play anymore. Shiet I've uninstalled Overwatch and never looked back. Could happen to you too APEX. :)
exactly .... my own incentives were the battle pass and ranked, ranked grind for bragging privileges and battle pass for casual pubbing while still feeling like im progressing at something... ranked is ruined with rampant cheating, now they are hard paywalling the battle pass, at that point theres no reason to play anymore
Ik nobody will read this specifically @The Gaming Merchant but I want to have my word in this issue, The crafting materials when buying the collection event would take you to buy both battle passes in 4 season which will cost you $80, which is out right awful, and even then like it was mentioned EA is slowly taking away buying events with crafting, making more currency useless every single season, we have 5 currency’s in the game and all of them seem useless now, legend tokens just existing since there is a legend every other season and useless recolours, coins now seem to be useless since they were mainly used to save up of the battle pass for many people (over priced skins as well), heiloom shards are god awful for people who haven’t even got their first one since they were playing as well as legends not even getting legend specific heirlooms (Fuse was the last legend to get one in SEASON 18!!!) and now exotic shards for universal heirlooms that nobody asked for and probably not going to use since there are better heirlooms to buy for other character

It kinda sucks people are mainly talking about this battle pass monotization change while the game is almost unplayable for people since the addition of quads. My game crashes almost every other match of quads I play and even crashes in other modes now whereas before the update the game maybe crashed twice all first split

The reason that there is already such a large player base that doesn't spend money on the game to purchase weapon skins, character skins etc is because what they release is of low quality and not exclusive enough to actually invest into. The game doesn't feel safe to spend money on especially with the leve of enjoyment we get with cheaters in the game all the time. I'm sure theres people who would rather buy cheats than cosmetics and that really tells you a lot about the game.
What's the point of a free to download game if you have to pay $ for every battle pass? I miss the old gaming world. Im a casual gamer and dont appreciate having to pay $20 every season when i didn’t even want to pay $10 for the first season.

Matchmaking is horrible.
Servers are horrible at times.
No audio feedback on enemy players - I hear my m8s better than enemies.
So many buggs in ranked, teaming players, CHEATING and lack of motivating rewards to play it.
I don't want to to quit but I've had enough.

I think this has been very dramatised by so many content creators. Why do people value apparel and their access to it so highly when it doesn't modify the gameplay? I've been buying the Battle Pass with free Apex Coins and now I'm going to miss out, I really don't care, my eyes glaze over when I see others' skins anyway.
It's because the game is so threadbare that the only meaningful progression is skins. Once you have the 4k20 set on all your mains there's literally nothing else to do

No matter what they add it is not ok to pay 20 dollars per season. First we get reactive recolors for 160 dollars , they removed it and added it back in full force, generic heirlooms for 300 dollars, removing thematic events and replacing them with gambling events , adding new shards for recolors making your apex coins and legend tokens even more useless, increasing the price of apex coins in store , increasing the price of skins in store ( 2500 to 2950) and telling you it's a discount. Wake the f up all my friends left the game I am joining.
I’ve been playing this game from ss 0-21 and the game has barely changed since the game came out… they only care about taking your money, I’m done with this game. It’s a spit to the face.
Some people DO spend 40+ dollars a season, but spelling it out for them doesn’t give you a good look, EA… they forgot they were talking to “the community” of shareholders on their golden thrones about why they don’t have more diamonds.
"getting rid of useless rewards from the battlepass" is basically transferring those useless rewards into apex packs which in turn makes the extra apex packs per bp, useless

Pretty sure the reason they did this is to counter cheaters. Buying the battle pass with actual money makes it so that the cheaters couldn't just keep switching accounts where they have a fake collection of apex coins. Think that is what is going on with this.
Only an idiot would buy the BP while cheating, it would be pointless for them to grind the BP, only to potentially get banned not long after.
It's actually hurting players that only do grind to get a hands on with Legendary/Premium Skins. Isn't the essence of the game to keep alive is to have a consistent active players on a daily basis? Even with players that don't even spend a single $$$ of the game, they give tractions on what's being played right now hence why the game is popular aside getting $$$. Why fix what's not even broken..seems like typical EA move.

I was planning to grind one last time, but after the latest collection event, my pc turned into a potato fr. So I had to uninstall it since these was no point in playing at 60fps avg. And, now that I've seen how things are changing, I highly doubt it that I'll be returning anytime soon.
i think a way to solve this while keeping the half season battle pass and the buying with apex coins is let people buy one half season with coins and if they want the next one it has to be real money

I quit Apex months ago, think it was the season right before they added Alter. I quit mostly because of the sweats and the cheaters, felt so hard to be a casual player. So I’ve been really enjoying getting into Fortnite and moving into that community, much easier game to play casually. All that said, I still love this game and was keeping up with it, it was my fave game for years for a reason. This change only really solidifies me staying away from Apex 😅
