You are listening to a true rock masterpiece. The Moody Blues are one of the most versatile groups ever. Between them they could play 35 different instruments.
What a lot of people that refused to listen to Rock and Roll back in the day didn't realize was that it wasn't just one kind of music, it was a freedom that artist had to do classical to hard rock. This is just as much Rock and Roll as Led Zepplin, or Black Sabbath. Rock and Roll included all expressions of the soul.
I grew up with this song. Love this song. The Moody Blues was an underrated band back in the day. Glad to see young folks that appreciate good music, and I hope your generation will keep it alive. By the way, you mentioned the flute solo, another good song with some good flute playing is The Marshall Tucker Band "Heard It In A Love Song"
Band member Justin Hayward (lead singer) wrote and composed the song at age 19 while touring in Belgium and titled the song after a girlfriend gave him a gift of satin bedsheets. The song itself was a tale of a yearning love from afar, which leads many aficionados to term it as a tale of unrequited love endured by Hayward.
The Flute is one of the few non reed instruments that you blow into without putting your lips around the Mouthpiece. One of the hardest wind instruments to master. I played the flute 65 years ago but gave it up for the clarinet.
All these senior band members have been together since 1964...The lead singer performing Justin Hayward joined the band in 1966.. This Song was released in 1967..they were part of the British invasion to the US in the 60's..The flutist and the drummer have passed away in the last couple years. Justin Hayward is now 77 years old and still performing. I am a bit older and still have all their songs on 45 RPM. One of my favorite groups.
This is one of my fav songs ever! I heard this when I was growing up in the 70's and I used to sing along but I had no idea what the song was about. I thought it was Knights in white satin and I pictured a bunch of old English Knights running around in white satin! LOL... this song touched my heart as a young girl and today it still does each time I hear it. Thanks for a great reaction video. Be sure and watch the original video of this song.. it's phenomenal.
This is the poem that goes with Nights in White Satin at the end of the song. It's only on the album Days of Future Passed. I don't know why he didn't recite it at this concert. Breathe deep the gathering gloom Watch lights fade from every room Bedsitter people look back and lament Another day's useless energy spent Impassioned lovers wrestle as one Lonely man cries for love and has none New mother picks up and suckles her son Senior citizens wish they were young Cold hearted orb that rules the night Removes the colours from our sight Red is grey and yellow white But we decide which is right And which is an illusion?
You have grown to realize that music isn't just music, but art. It opens your minds to worlds and experiences that make life worth living. Music that can evoke an emotional responses really is art.
"Nights In White Satin" is their most famous song. Moody Blues are one of my favorite groups from the 60's-80's. Love their mix of rock with classical music. Lots of great songs such as "Go Now", "Tuesday Afternoon", "The Story In Your Eyes", "Question", "Ride My See-Saw", "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice" etc. All of their music is great! Many of their records are concept albums & meant to be listened to all at once. Sadly Ray Thomas their flute player & singer passed away in 2018 & their drummer Graeme Edge passed away in 2021.
Nice reaction video brother, I love his voice and emotional impact he delivers, I grew up listening to him in my childhood and now in my twilight. Subscribed.
Great to hear you’re enjoying the various musical experiences.. sometimes, I think if someone saw my list, they would think I’m very open minded or perhaps very nuts :)
This is a powerful song, a masterpiece of lyrics, instrumentation and vocals. Like "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin, "Nights in White Satin" touches emotions, almost sending you into another place, space, time. I never tire of hearing this hauntingly beautiful song. Listen to the audio version to hear the poem, which follows. "Tuesday Afternoon" is the next Moody Blues song you should hear. You will not be disappointed!
Ha! 😂 Satin is a fabric used sometimes for bed sheets. Kind of like silk. Love your videos. Probably the one channel I like at the very beginning cuz I know the reaction will be on point. Keep up the work. And if you get a chance, check out some Ted Nugent - Stranglehold. Think you'll like it. Studio version.
The Moody Blues were one of the first to use a moog synthesizer. Soon after began what became known as Progressive Rock with Yes, Genesis, ELP, King Crimson, to name a few. I'm sure your many followers will recommend early 70's Yes to start with. Enjoy your journey! With Peace and Love to you and all! (Michael)
I've loved this song since I first heard it in 1967 at age 7. This live performance with the orchestra was incredible. I really loved watching your reaction to this beautiful song.
Nights in white satin refers to satin sheets on the bed. This live version is phenomenal, especially considering how many decades ago they first released the song.
Concise, intelligent and insightful comments without rambling on n on ; love it. Also enjoy seeing your face light up when you like what you're hearing. Thanks for the awesome music and reactions.
Hello, Thank you for react to nights in white satin i'm happy that you enjoyed it, it's a classic one from the mid 70's and i'm happy that it bring so much joy to you and indeed it's a great song and great performance thanks. Greetings from the Netherlands
One of my favorite songs ever. You need to listen to this whole concept album "Days of Future Pass". It tells the story in song of a day from morning to evening.
You do know what this means my son? You HAVE that musical gift that makes you very, VERY special. It has been my privilege to mentor many young people as they found their their gifts on their musical journey. It was turning points like thiw with they discover their musical soul. I believe you have just found yours. Do not let your journey end. Your eyes and ears have been opened. Embrace this time. God bless you.
I loved your reaction. One of my favorite songs when I was a kid. This singer makes you feel what he’s feeling. A hauntingly beautiful song, and the orchestra adds so much.
Now dude, you really need to head to the store & check out some satin bedsheets. It's the best. Now that said, one of the surprising things people seem to miss here, is the background vocals on the chorus. Especially at their age in this performance. Impressive.
What I always suggest to anyone who hears this as their first experience of the song, is to find a video from when it was first released, and compare them. Then you will realise how amazing these guys are, to sound like this after all the years that have passed.
I used to put my record player on with this album on.. (back in the day the record would play and turn off when it finished the side) and I'd lay in bed going to sleep listening to the album.. it was a story.. as a teen I really had no Idea what it was about, but it was dreamy.
You should listen to the studio version of the song. At the end there is a section of spoken verses with great lyrics before the ending that you just heard. There are some great lines in those verses ("young lovers wrestle as one, senior citizens wish they were young"). Love to hear that you now appreciate many genres of music. Song reaction sites like yours are one of the most wonderful results of our modern social media-driven age!
Great reaction Shon!! ... written in 1967, one of the greatest moody blues timeless tunes... considered one of the first Symphonic / Progressive Rock artwork... a masterpiece that has influenced and captivated generations since...
This song is from the album "Days of Future Passed" released in 1967 by The Moody Blues. What we just heard is a live version many years later. The album is worth a listen and is a classic!!!! Thank YOU Shon!!! Your enthusiasm added to the enjoyment of the piece itself!!!! I'm going to Subscribe!
Shon,if you want a kick ass madman flute solo, you MUST listen to Locomotive Breath live video version by Jethro Tull! You have NEVER seen anyone slay a flute like Ian Andersen! I dare ya....😉👊
I've seen the Moody Blues a couple times in concert. Always great, always. Just wish they would have done the poem at the end. It's needed, and wanted. :)
You are one of my favourite reactors! Your face literally says how music makes you feel, its absolutely brilliant to see you appreciate all the different eras, genres and incredible talents 😊
Justin Hayward had an incredible voice, so smooth, so pure. The Moody Blues would often tour with an orchestra just to add to the incredible live experience. Love and respect, bro, hog fam Canada 🇨🇦 ❤ I agree Ray Thomas was spectacular on the flute.
Saw these guys play at Chastain Amphitheater (open air) in Atlanta in 1984 when I was 16 - one of the most glorious concerts I’ve ever seen. Thanks for reacting!
If you haven’t heard The Mamas and The Papas’ Creeque Alley, I think you would really enjoy it. Fantastic writing and one you will never forget once you hear it for the first time.
The singer, Justin Haywood, wrote it as a teen, and for a full orchestra. This is the next to the last cut of the album, Days of Future Past, one of the first Concept" Albums. The Moody's catalog makes an anthill look simple and shallow. For rock flute, there's the Moodys and Jethro Tull.
That was before I watched, now I say thank you for giving music outside your wheelhouse a chance. Topping it off I'm so happy you let us know what makes your playlists. Th8s lets us know you actually listen outside of the videos you react to \m/
Power Shon - thank you for keepin’ it real and talking about how it made you think and feel. This song is a masterpiece. If you want to rock harder listen to Ride my See Saw - it is a journey- Max high energy
This is an old school concert... So Much GREAT music. Words and Music, words and music... Try a little "Jethro Tull "./ Thick as a Brick, or Aqua Lung... Flute music you wont forget.
It's classic English rock, if you have ever had your heart broken... This is the song.. Ie nights in white saten meens happy days, letters I writen... Well we have all done that xxxx
One of the most iconic songs ever, for many of us who grew up with this music will say this song is one of our all time favorites, it was epic at High School dances😁Thanks for reacting to it!
Shon this is my day of firsts ... first reaction site ever, and first time seeing someone who is truly bllown away by The Moodies of your generation. The original was on they're album Days of Future Past , I recomend it so highly. As a heads up listen to the album Darkside of the Moon by Pink Floyd if you wish to become totally blown away , but you must react to the whole album , all the music runs into itself , so you can't just listen without hearing the whole storyline ... Interested to see your take on one of "modern" days masterpieces. Keep on producing man , plenty to chew on. 😂
Ultimate rock flute is Jethro Tull...A wild dude. I Recomend Crosseyed Mary Or Locomotive Breath. Heavy Rock with a flute. He's the Goat Bro. Plus he looks crazy. It's hard to believe the talent just looking at him. So great.
This song and album came out when I was about 18, and it blew me away. So cool that you're groovin' to it now. Flute solos: all right, my man, you GOT to start listening to Jethro Tull. Lead singer is Ian Andersen, who also happens to be the songwriter, a fine acoustic guitar player (this is NOT acoustic music); a KILLER flute player; and a maniacal performer unlike almost anyone else. "Aqualung" is their best known album, but don't start with that song, even though it's rich. Try Locomotive Breath, Wind UP, or Psalm 43. For their live stuff...there's so much, but "Thick As a Brick, from around 1977, should do the trick. Please keep up the great work!
Song Suggestions: Limp Bizkit - Nookie, Re-Arranged Ginuwine - Pony, Differences Jann Arden - Could I Be Your Girl, Insensitive Earshot - Wait, Get Away Dishwalla - Counting Blue Cars Better Than Ezra - Good, Desperately Wanting Jars Of Clay - Flood Dennis DeYoung - Desert Moon American HiFi - Flavor Of The Week, Another Perfect Day Boy Krazy - That's What Love Can Do
You are listening to a true rock masterpiece. The Moody Blues are one of the most versatile groups ever. Between them they could play 35 different instruments.
Let's not forget the fact that all of these guys are now in their 70's as well AND STILL rocking it!
And they sound the same!
This is what happens when every member of the band is an accomplished musician and songwriter.
His voice is out of this world.!!❤😊❤
One of the baddest flute solos in history.

Gotta agree 100%… a true rock masterpiece!
You are THE best.......love seeing your music appreciation grow. Best reactor bar none. Cheers from Vancouver.
Hey Shon, it gives me great pleasure to see people love the music I have loved for over 50 years, still gives me the chills deep down.
Shon, ABSOLUTELY! The Moody Blues were/are one-of-a-kind. None before and none after! ❤
This is a masterpiece of sounds and one of the most enjoyed albums of the 1970’s. When music was great!!
I have always loved this song, i think its so hauntingly beautiful ❤
The Flute is one of the few non reed instruments that you blow into without putting your lips around the Mouthpiece. One of the hardest wind instruments to master. I played the flute 65 years ago but gave it up for the clarinet.
Right. You blow across the opening of a flute, not into it. Most people consider reed instruments to be harder, though. I did.
This song is a whole different vibe. Just perfect.
playing a flute is just like blowing across the top of a pop bottle 😎
All these senior band members have been together since 1964...The lead singer performing Justin Hayward joined the band in 1966.. Hahaha! It's not just me! As a young kid in the late 70s/early 80s, I also imagined knights running around doing heroic things for love.
@@TheNotedHero I'm glad to know it isn't just me!! LOL... at least you had the theme correct! LOL... wishing you all the best!
OMG! Now that's a funny image! Lol.
This is the poem that goes with Nights in White Satin at the end of the song. It's only on the album Days of Future Passed. I don't know why he didn't recite it at this concert.
Breathe deep the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade from every room
Bedsitter people look back and lament
Another day's useless energy spent
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young
Cold hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colours from our sight
Red is grey and yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion?
Yes.. the album was an experience of Life. Not hearing the spoken poem at the end is missed.
Suckles, not settled...
❤
Not having the poem at the end of the song is like they just took a knife & cut the song in half, it’s just not finished w/out it, imo. So beautiful!❤
Thanks for that!
One of my many favorite songs by the Moody Blues.

Just saw Justin the singer last month his voice is still incredible!

Great to hear you’re enjoying the various musical experiences.. sometimes, I think if someone saw my list, they would think I’m very open minded or perhaps very nuts :)
The way to play the flute is to blow across the top of the mouthpiece, just like you saw in this.
Justin Haywood, the singer, wrote this song back in 1967 when he was 19 back in 1967.
This is a powerful song, a masterpiece of lyrics, instrumentation and vocals. Ooooooo!!! You're reacting to music NO ONE ELSE DOES! True masterpiece.
I seen them a couple of times some 40 years ago with complete orchestra
Unbelievable show, lots of emotion
I really enjoy your reviews as they show such sincere, intelligent, enthusiasm for such a wide variety of styles and genres . Keep up the good work 🥰

One of the greatest songs of the century, You should do the original recording. They sounded better when they were younger.
The full album version with the spoken word poem, the Late Lament, at the end but not the shortened radio edit.
One of my favorite songs ever. You need to listen to this whole concept album "Days of Future Pass". It tells the story in song of a day from morning to evening.
Moody Blues "Candle of life" 🕯️❤️
Another incredible song featuring an orchestra is "Whiter shade of pale"by Procol Harum!! 🔥
'White Satin' are the sheets on the bed they spent their nights on ....'Nights on White Satin'...remembering their love. Great reaction.
You do know what this means my son? You HAVE that musical gift that makes you very, VERY special. Hauntingly beautiful. I remember listening to this song growing up as a child in the 70's and it hit me like it still does today. Classic 🎶🔥🔥🔥🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
The studio version features a poem at the end. It takes Nights in White Satin to another level.
I loved your reaction. One of my favorite songs when I was a kid. This singer makes you feel what he’s feeling. A hauntingly beautiful song, and the orchestra adds so much.
I grew up with ALL their music. They are a core memory from my childhood 😂. My mom loves them
Sidenote ..like Fleetwood Mac’s the dance…people singing and playing actual instruments …there’s so many layers ..omfg
Definitely one of my favorite bands from that time period. I was in Junior high. Time goes by but the love for the music of back then is still strong.
Now dude, you really need to head to the store & check out some satin bedsheets. It's the best.
Now that said, one of the surprising things people seem to miss here, is the background vocals on the chorus. Especially at their age in this performance. Impressive.
They were amazing live in 2016!
When I was in high school in the 70's this was the best slow dance song ever!
What I always suggest to anyone who hears this as their first experience of the song, is to find a video from when it was first released, and compare them.
Then you will realise how amazing these guys are, to sound like this after all the years that have passed.
The Singer wrote & Sung it back in 1967 & SOUNDS EXACTLY THE SAME!!!
I used to put my record player on with this album on.. (back in the day the record would play and turn off when it finished the side) and I'd lay in bed going to sleep listening to the album.. it was a story.. as a teen I really had no Idea what it was about, but it was dreamy.
Saw them in concert several times in 1969/70, they lived in my hometown
What a great mix for a live show. Top notch 👌 👏 👍

Moody Blues live at Red Rocks is terrific.
You are one of my favourite reactors! Your face literally says how music makes you feel, its absolutely brilliant to see you appreciate all the different eras, genres and incredible talents 😊

You are correct old wise one. 🙏🍁
Tull was probably the best show I ever saw. Small venue, very cool crowd, and absolutely electrifying energy from the stage.
Check out Jethro Tull for some more amazing music with the flute, Ian Anderson, the lead singer has created so many musical masterpieces.
This is good for your soul music!!
Moody Blues is great listening music 🎵🎶🎵
