Since the causative factors were not in the power of the operator - i.e. criminal activity and police action - those will be considered the liable party. I was shocked that someone would drive so fast on a 35 MPH street, then I heard the sirens, and four RP cops went flying by. It was obviously a chase - I wondered if there would be a news story about it.
Criminals are always to blame. But they wouldn't be able to accomplish so much if the cops in CA could actually do something. They can't engage much until he crashes into an innocent civilian. Can you imagine how this would go in AL, FL or some state like that? They'd have pitted him REAL quick. Criminals are treated very well in CA.
This highlights an issue. How do you get your seat belt off without them thinking you are going for a weapon. They want to see your hands at all times but you’re somehow supposed to get out of the car without reaching.
All those drivers put in danger because ROHNERT PARK SARGENT told arriving officers at the 7-11 they HAD to wait until he did a moving violation FIRST even though the vehicle was reported STOLEN!!
Felony vehicle evasion/failure to yield should carry an additional sentence of 1 year for EVERY mile being chased due to total and absolute disregard for other human lives. If the evader travels intentionally on the wrong side of the freeway, the sentencing should automatically double.
I don't understand. I'm sure there was a perfectly good onramp to the correct side of the road available to him SOMEWHERE. This is not proper protocol when you can't find your onramp. He was going crazy fast and blew right through a three way stop in front of Oliver’s Market. I looked in the Press Democrat newspaper the next day and there was no mention of it! This is the first time I’ve seen any coverage. He’s going away for a very long time!
They’ve been doing police chasing much longer than the rest of the country. The way they do it now is formed from that extensive experience. Also, I do not believe that the other parts of the country their police departments have yet to experience the liability that eventually will come in the form of a lawsuit in the wrong kind of an accident if it can be shown that they contributed to making it more dangerous for motorist.And when that comes, you’re going to see those police departments dial back as well and probably follow a bit more careful approach that mimics what you see on the West Coast.
Their aggressiveness is the exact reason why he drove on the wrong side of the road. They are the reason why so many people were put in danger, they really forced this guy to make such an extreme decision.

Let's say if I was to ever come across a wrong way driver is it like illegal or would I get in trouble if I purposely hit the wrong way driver instead of moving out of the way?
