I spent the summers of my childhood at my grandparents' house in the countryside, exploring the woods with my sister as we imagined what kind of supernatural things we might find there. Even though Gravity Falls didn't air until I was already an adult, I still get a large sense of nostalgia from the show. That said, I accidentally let this nostalgia get the better of me when recording and editing this video and I repeatedly misspeak that Stan and Ford the Pines twins' Grandfather/Great Grandfather/some other variant. So if you, like so many others, notice this slip-up, understand that it's not a misreading of the show but me confusing my own childhood for the show's events.
One question: is it weird that I can pinpoint the exact line, notes, or circumstance of every frame shown here? JK! I know I’m weird- no. Insane! What’s your point?
Gravity falls will always be my favorite cartoon ever made, I’m turning 18 this year and I cannot even remember how many times I’ve rewatched that entire show, one month I rewatched it back to back multiple times
I love the fact that even if this show was set in America, a country that I've never visited and only had an overall grasp based on the media I've consumed, Gravity Falls made me nostalgic. It reminded me of the warm and comfortable feeling when I visited my hometown, which is NOTHING like Gravity Falls except for the fact that we got whispers or supernatural stuffs there.
When I was in middle school, I lived on an island that had one of the largest battles of WW2 occur. That alone might tell some people which island it is. I used to love exploring so-called haunted places there with friends and there was usually some cool, but possibly fake, WW2 story to go with it. In reality, we were probably just exploring abandoned buildings and places where people used to hide during the war. I got to kind of relive that sense of myth and adventure with Gravity Falls and I think it's why I liked it so much!
Gravity falls carried me through highschool. I have incredible memories of watching with my sibling, waiting for the next episode to come, trying to figure out the ciphers on our own and keeping a journal of our predictions and observations throughout the years.
Stan’s not the only guilty party in Land Before Swine. The narrative is telling us he’s in the wrong for leaving Waddles outside, but we’ve just seen Mabel’s very hands off approach to housetraining the pig directly affect the Mystery Shack exhibits, a very valid concern since it’s Stan’s whole livelihood yet the episode doesn’t treat it as such. With the episode being about characters acknowledging their roles in the conflict as the moral, this stands out.
Never really considered this, but I still think it's one of Mabel's lesser sins. After all, Stan did assume responsibility for the pig. Regardless, Mabel could've been a bit more responsible with Waddles herself.
Entirely agree with this take: we've litterally been showed that Mabel, while loves Waddles, does zero effort or even attempt to housetrain the pig she got without Stan's permission and knowing fully well she wouldn't be able to bring him back to her house at the end of the summer (that only happens thanks to Stan's stubborness). No, all the opposite, we litterally see Mabel FOSTERING Waddles' destructive behaviour when the pig starts to rip and chew Stan's suit for work, "Chew, chew, CHEW that pant leg!". Considering the Shack is his home AND his livelihood not just to keep himself and the kids fed and his employees payed, but also to be able to get his brother back, he has all the right in the world to not to want the pig around messing his attractions and etc, and he told her pretty clear he couldn't watch over Waddles because he had to start a tour. Obviously I'm not going to blame entirely Mabel for this since she's 12 and of course ain't going to be the most responsible pet owner ever, but it's one thing for the pet to do an oopsie in a moment you can't look, and then there's fostering the destruction and mess of the household you're living in, specially if you adopted said pet without the house's owner's permission. Yet the narrative ignores this entirely and blames Stan exclusively for placing Waddles outside. Was Stan in the wrong? Yes, but so was Mabel, but the narrative ignores this completely.
@@dracoangelrojo Don’t forget pig dance party. While it’s presented as heartwarming for their bond, it doesn’t change that Mabel is using the gift shop as their dance party location and they do get into the ice creams too. There’s a double standard when it comes to Mabel.
Gravity Falls actually came out at the perfect time. As the show was on, I was 11-13, so everything the twins were feeling hit harder for me because I was going through the same things. (not....not exactly the same things. I was just growing up.) When the show ended it felt like I was losing a friend, but now when I rewatch the show I also get a little trip down memory lane. Also for YEARS I wanted a pet pig. Honestly I still do.
Yes! Long form Gravity Falls content! I loved this show, got to watch it as it came out. However, I never really got to participate in the widespread community clue hunting and decoding. Instead I picked up on things somewhat slowly, noticing more on subsequent watch throughs, and eventually discovering the whole can of worms a few years ago. The lesson that all good things end will always stick with me. "Summer's over.."
Yay I love Gravity Falls! I was able to watch it when it aired so it's interesting to see your thoughts on it years later. Thank you for making this! Stellar work✨️
i loved gravity falls i actually watched it in my late teens on disney plus but i really really enjoyed it even though i wasn’t a kid watching it. i became totally obsessed with the show and i’m very impressed with it.
This is such a good video! I watched Gravity Falls YEARS ago and loved it ever since. Recently rewatched it with my partner, seeing how they reacted to things was amazing. I got to keep more of an eye on all the backgrounds, compared to my first viewing. I love that this show has so much for everyone.
i love your video! gravity falls is something so special to me and ive rewatched it countless times (literally JUST finished a rewatch last night), and its cool hearing someone else talk about it.
Thank you so much for this video. I felt the heart ❤️ You're comments were absolutely fair and able to see the show as a whole especially in terms of Dipper and Mabel's overall arc. I especially like when you said we shouldnt havr answers to all questions because by then we stop asking questions.
Your Moral Orel video was huge. Growing up Christian, you helped me grapple with and love a series that I feel really understood my feelings on religion in a pretty wholesome way. I have some hugely formative memories around Gravity Falls when it aired as a teenager, but my fondness for it has died since its finale. I'm very excited for this vid!
Fantastic retrospective! You got yourself a new subscriber, sir! (Never watched this show but you sold me on it. I'm sure my daughter will enjoy it with me)
This was such a good video!! I've watched through the whole show multiple times now, and I almost feel like this video is such a good way to relive the magic this show holds without investing the time needed for the whole show. So thank you!
Kepp doing what you're doing man. I've said this after every video but your style is unique and refreshing. All it takes is one algorithm push and you'll be on your way.
great video! just finished watching Gravity Falls on Disney+ after many years of being interested to know what it was about and I couldn't be more pleased that I did. it's an amazing cartoon! every detail is so well thought out and the mystery is so well built, I can say it's better than many movies/shows of the genre for grown ups. 😊
Stan was the best thing for Dipper in Roadside Attraction. Confidence has always been an issue for Dipper, since it mainly shows in a very niche area and his broader social skills are for the most part lacking. There’s also that Dipper and Stan’s great uncle and great nephew relationship has had its ups and downs. For Stan to be the one to give Dipper what he needs is heartwarming. In contrast Mabel’s approach is completely unhelpful. Not only does she dredge up the failed relationship with Wendy in a very public way because plot, but she encourages Candy to have a shot at Dipper (okay, that’s putting it mildly), the situation ending up with Dipper cast as the bad guy in a contrived manner.
Oh, wow, fantastic video! Going back through every epsiode really reminded me why I love this show so much, and your passion for it on display is something really nice to see. It's also great the fandom is still so active as we get farther and farther away from the ending of the show.
Thanks for making this video. I was watching the series with my oldest son and we had such a great time . Maybe you can do a retrospektive for Adventure Time In the Future.
This was the first cartoon me and my daughter bonded over and will sideways hold a special place in my heart. In fact, we're supposed to start reading Journal 3 for bedtime stories next
Unlimited menace levels this channel is unstoppable there’s time stamps for every tiny part for this one and every month there’s a full retrospective on every part of a new show this is a militaristic operation run by a mad person or people keep up the good work I hope this doesn’t burn out or die that would be a same because I have probably never seen this quality at this pace do you have any help?

Little Dipper does raise a good point that’s very important later in season 2, and indeed in the penultimate episode of season one. His esteem is affected by how much of a punching bag he’s treated as, when he’s teased he feels he needs to fix why he’s being teased. He’s fair game, but Mabel isn’t and when she’s in the firing line if she’s upset, the person upsetting her is the bad guy. Dipper being a braggart to this degree is shown only in this episode because he needs to learn the lesson, yet Mabel and Stan abuse him with short jokes and they aren’t called out in the episode.
I think there was a bit more complexity to the issue. I do agree with you for the main part, since Mabel does get away with a lot in the series, but it's said in the episode that Dipper holds it over Mabel that he's usually better at things/smarter than her. Siblings tease each other, sometimes not realizing how hurtful they can be. To Mabel and Stan, they probably thought that calling him short was the same as calling Dipper a 'nerd', something he never really seemed to get offended by. It's only when they actually communicated with eachother that Dipper and Mabel were able to solve the problem. Just like in the last episode.
@@maxwellwillows It’s only in this episode though, and it’s never Dipper getting others to gang up on Mabel. Factor in season 2B where Mabel knows her words have stung Dipper but instead of trying to heal the growing rift between them doesn’t communicate that she knows she’s stepped wrong and wants to fix it.
