  • The soundboard is the ultimate sound maker of the guitar. Thicknessing it to the right dimensions for the specific piece of wood is the most challenging tasks of the luthier.
    Here I show you my way of handling the top. It's the most important thing when building a guitar.
    filmed with my Zoom Q8.

    Great video. Would like to note thought that you said final thickness would be 25 mm at the bridge. I assume you meant 2.5mm

      That doesn't look like an inch thick top, does it?

    Hello there! Thank you for this great videos. Iam starting harp builder and I found it really useful.
    One thing I cant find, and it would be so good if you talk about it:how to "read" lumber for making soundboard. What grain makes really good or great soundboard. If it is really as easy as the most straight and most delicate year rings or of there is something more? If the grain is little bit wavy does it have to be really bad or doesnt? I have a lot of question in that. Thank you!

    What kind of sound are you looking for when you “flop” the top. And what pitch or note are you looking for in general?

    • @advankuijk
      @advankuijk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not a specific sound; it's more to see how loose the top feels.

    Can you use a block sanding for this process? A questin for those who don't have a hand plane.

    Can any other luthier guess which brand of low angle block plane is being used here. ?
    I need a good one for this same purpose. ♥️

    Great video. What tone do you want to hear at this stage? A, B etc??? or just concentrate on the thickness of the top? Thanks

    • @advankuijk
      @advankuijk  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      At this stage I listen to the way the top vibrates. I want it to vibrate as much as possible. While thichnessing the top the tones will lower.

    Thickness is probably not 25mm in Bridge area but 2.5mm... right?

    What can be said about the difference in top thickness (and back) between flamenco guitar and classical guitar

    • @advankuijk
      @advankuijk  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      nothing! there is not really a difference. You judge the sound of the wood you use by experience.

    • @advankuijk
      @advankuijk  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just saw your remark. Sorry I did not respons earlier. There is in my opinion no difference. The piece of wood dictates what to do and each top or back is differend.

      I always use my Stanley blockplane and it works fine for me! Good luck!
