    It’s fascinating how much political, social, cultural, and philosophical commentary is in Horizon Zero Dawn. I never realised the depth of intelligence within the worldbuilding of Horizon. This is a wonderful sci-fi fantasy series a rich understanding of its past, present, and future. The sci-fi is obvious. The fantasy comes after the sci-fi aspects such as the tribal beliefs of spirituality and relationship between man and machine. The control of the machines can be thought of as magic system within the world. AIs can be the higher beings that subjugate or befriend the humans and the ancients are those who created those higher beings.

      '-though of course, far more advanced.' - says a cheeky(?) Sylens with Aloy being one of the few that could see through all at least now compared to the rest of the Broken APOLLO-less cloned reclaimers of our 'old one' counterparts.

    I like that I found this channel, really goes into a lot more depth then I could ever hope to go into myself despite reading the entire Wikia and almost 50 pages of Zero Dawn things that people wrote about. A lot of the time I misunderstand things or just don’t get the whole meaning of them and then I think I know but I watch a video and realise I really don’t. HZD is probably the first game that I’ve read so much about and the one I always want to learn more on, it’s a very sad game, with a pretty realistic real life problem, maybe not so much with the machines but we’re certainly running out of room and we’re overusing the planet at this point it says we require 1.6 earths to sustain us and we only have 1.
    I often wish I could go to that world and take Aloy back to my time with me and show her what the old world would have looked like with a lot less tech, sometimes even to take her back to a time Elisabet was alive so she could teach Aloy to rebuild Gaia and maybe even take her back several years to allow her to live a normal life, before returning to hers with all her newfound knowledge. I’d imagine people have thought about this and done a story on it, I may have to go check that.
    To do with the frozen wilds I found it funny you could swim around, like you’d freeze to death if you did that in real life. I thought they should have done like a warning or Aloy should of said something, but she never did.
    For the sequel I’d like a return to the old world and also travelling to the forbidden west, I’d prefer if they kept it as Aloy and continued her story as until Gaia is rebuilt her story isn’t over. Also finding out what Sylens has planned with the Titan and Hades, hopefully he’s not thinking of resurrecting the machine, without any real weaponry the world would be dead and gone second time in no time flat, specially with the cauldrons still operating. Hopefully he’s not that stupid as to instigate his own death. Oh I also want Apollo to not be purged, like Elisabet had put in a system to make it unpurgeable even if it seemed like it was gone. Finding out that the Odysee didn’t explode and was all faked would be cool too. The sequel has all the makings to be great, I guess we’ll find out in time if it’s great or if they messed up.

      Love all of these thoughts! Yeah, I found myself profoundly sad during the game - it's hopeful, but also strikes some chords that are too true to today.
      I agree about swimming! I always felt there should be a health hit just walking around FW. I'd like to see Banuk outfits truly protect against cold in that way. (I also wish she had to eat, and could sleep too.)
      And no Banuk should be bare armed - heat would be too precious to waste like that.
      Can't wait for the next installment! And I also hope the main story arc gets further along, not just the Red Blight.

    I wonder how the Banuk would feel if they knew the true history of the Old Ones, who actually knew far more hardship than they themselves every faced in their own lives and who even gave the tribes the gift of a new life on a new Earth. Wouldn't that fly in the face of their belief system?

    Always bugged me how the tribes that live in colder regions either almost exclusively wear short sleeves (like the Nora), or not much clothes at all (like the Sky Clan Tenakth). The Banuk are like a weird inbetween where some of them dress appropriately or not. Guess the humans in this era are just immune to cold.

  • @blairbishop6402
    @blairbishop6402 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    "Old ones were fresh in their graves." It makes me kind of wonder if the Banuk were originally Eleuthia-bred humans?
    The swarm chased after heat signatures but if enough humans stayed beneath the earth where it was cold, could they have potentially survived the first hundred years of the apocalypse? I only inquire this because of John Gonzalez's previous work on Fallout: New Vegas. Not to get off topic, but if any have ever played the Honest Hearts DLC, we know how he likes to play around with cult ideals and spiritualism in the post-apocalyptic world.
    Back to HZD - some people might have survived long enough on cannibalism - the Ravenous tribe as mentioned. It took Gaia a while to shut down the swarm and stabilize the atmosphere. Maybe the first Banuk and other bunker-born people were surviving off of deep-cave fauna? We know the swarm could traverse the ocean and that titans could mess up buildings, but we don't know how far they could drill underground, except for the titan scene above All-mother nearly wrecking Cradle 9 like a monster clawing to consume those helpless organisms (shivers).

    • @CocoonsLastHope
      @CocoonsLastHope 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the Wikia I read that by the time man had fallen there was about 1000 of them across the world, that is a lot of 300+ meter machines, it’s very likely that if they teamed up they could very well reach earths core, I don’t really see that as being a stretch. It’s really too bad we didn’t get more glimpses or some videos of the old world with the machines overrunning it to get a general idea of how many machines were all over the world and also in any certain area. Perhaps the sequel will venture there or maybe it will leave everything unanswered although that would suck.

    • @kyoza5069

      @@CocoonsLastHope Well, there's a confirmed sequel now. Judging by the trailer I think you're right, we may get a flash back to the past, or even learn about it if we're tasked with fixing APOLLO (i know what it sounds like bc of Fucko but copies still exist)

    • @CocoonsLastHope
      @CocoonsLastHope 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kyoza5069 I believe they exist too, one simply cannot erase fossils. I mean I hope we get a glimpse back, the trailer didn’t show us much, need gameplay to be shown. HZD is a 3 part game series so I strongly feel we will repair Gaia and Apollo either some in this next one or just in part 3.
      I honestly cannot wait regardless, their choice to bring it out on PS5 great choice, they’ll really be able to bring the world to life. PS4 limited the game a lot, from poorly looking clouds at times, to horrendous water effects to incredibly bad reflections lol.
      Also no or very quick loading between fast travels that’ll be something to look forward to. Underwater exploration and yeah, gosh I am going to have so much fun, hoping we can fly with a sun wing too.

    In the end of the dlc,when you talk with CYAN, she speaks about "the claw-back",What is it exactly?

    • @RandomSideQuest
      @RandomSideQuest  7 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Hey there! So, during the 2030's, the world faced a catastrophic climate crisis. Sea levels raised to levels that completely submerged New Zeland, and substantial amounts of coastal land around the globe. Millions were killed, and millions were displaced. This was dubbed "the great die off." In response, the world began to come together in hopes of bringing the world's climate back into balance. Dr.Sobeck and her work with green robotics made her a leader of this movement. Thus the 2040s came to be known as the "claw back" decade, as the world attempted to bring itself back from the brink.
      I speak more on that time in the Ted Faro vid of you're srill curious.

    I wonder how northern lights are possible there. Natural pole switch (but the few i know about is a complete reversal north-south, not a random relocation to far lower) or does any of the faro plague and terraforming events had a direct effect on that shift?

    • @MollyFC
      @MollyFC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well the northern lights are basically the sun interacting with the atmosphere so it could be a large solar flare hitting the earth so it's not unheard of to see them a bit in Northern Wyoming and Montana where their lands are located when flares occur.

    • @NOLAgenX
