John Helliwell, Supertramp's saxophone virtuoso, breathes life into their music, especially evident in "My Kind of Lady." His masterful sax solos add a distinctive touch, elevating the band's sound to iconic status. Beyond technical brilliance, Helliwell brings a rich history to Supertramp, having joined them in 1973. "My Kind of Lady" showcases Helliwell's ability to seamlessly blend jazzy elements into the rock landscape. His saxophone becomes a storyteller within the song, adding emotional depth. Across Supertramp's discography, from the iconic "The Logical Song" to the whimsical "Take the Long Way Home," Helliwell's saxophone is the soulful thread connecting their diverse musical tapestry. In essence, Helliwell's saxophone isn't just an instrument; it's an integral part of Supertramp's identity. His musical finesse has left an indelible mark, making him a key architect of the band's success.
If they were trying to emulate a 50s band, they nailed it!! The suits, the moves, the vocals!’❤❤❤Never heard this side of Supertramp, but absolutely loved it!❤❤❤
Child of Vision and Crime of the Century are two of Supertramp's great album ending songs. Also " Hide in your shell" " Even in the Quietest Moments " is another great tune.
It's Rick Davies as lead singer here. He also harmonizes with himself, singing falsetto. Amazing band, both Rick and Roger are incredibly talented and great musicians as well as song-writers. And obviously the whole band was full of talent. Not just John Helliwells amazing sax (as well as clarinette etc..) but also the rhythm section, Siebenberg and Thompson.
Wonderful reaction to this under rated track . Super Tramp had a great bundle of talent that was able to experiment and innovate great music. Jay and Amber , you should check out " School" from the Crime of the century album. Fantastic composition.
Wow! this song by Supertramp is Fantastic just perfect for slow dancing. In the 1970s and early 1980s there were groups that were making music that reminded us about the 1950s and early 1960s and did and amazing job at it loved this song My kind of Lady 💝
OMGOODNESS You are finally doing this song. I've been requesting this for other people and you to do this for years. My favorite supertramp song along with give a little bit. Thank you so much The saxophone work is the bomb.
It's pretty funny to think that now I like this song yet, back in early '80's, we thought that Supertramp were so corny trying to emulate a '50's band!!! So young of us!!! Guys, you have yet to give their 2 more complex masterpieces a try... "Crime of The Century" and "Fool's Overture"... hope you get to savor them soon... cheers.
its such a crime how underrated this song his a big part of the band was gone when roger left ricks singing and creativity on this song is truly incredible this song is one of all time favourite songs from supertramp
Guys, please do next from them , these other's greatest hits : "Don't leave me now" , "Gone Hollywood" , "Crazy" , "Just another nervous wreck" & "Babaji"
Hey, there's a total 80's vibe that y'all haven't done yet. Produced by David Gilmour! Life in a Northern Town by Dream Academy. One of those songs that takes you to another place and time for a few minutes.
In 1980 i graduated and moved from Detroit to Houston & when this came out in 82 my roommates would laugh with this on cassette in their car because my head was laid back on the rear dash, eyes closed & head swaying back and forth to the sax solo. Lol😅
You should go back to some ‘70s Supertramp…Hide in Your Shelf is a banger (there is an awesome Midnight Special version) along with Sister Moonshine, Fools Overture etc. etc. Supertramp NEVER disappoints.
Part of me irrationally resents this song, that Rick Davies's spotlight (single, MV) on the final album before Roger Hodgson left the group being "only" a 1950s pastiche feeds into the popular perception that Roger was 80% of the group, with people only knowing Rick for "Goodbye Stranger" and "Bloody Well Right". But it is a wonderful pastiche. Note-perfect, as the 'Tramp always are. And so farewell to the team of Rick and Roger and John Helliwell on the reed instruments and Dougie Thomson on the bass and Bob Siebenberg on the drums. They will continue to make fine music in the future (the other four certainly poured their heart into "Brother, Where You Bound"), but this is the final album for the five. But so it goes.
WHAM! - " Everything She Wants ( Remastered ) " 1980s original recording ⏺️ Remastered with the best possible sound. Fantastic intro that will automatically hook you into listening 🎧 to this wonderful music by WHAM! with George Michael's phenomenal Voice and the music is atronomical just of the mega super hits it's AmazinG!! Jay and Amber you're gonna love this masterpiece too.
Wow! A deep cut by Supertramp. Never heard this one, and it's definitely NOT my favorite by them, but it IS enjoyable. ❤✌ More Supertramp, please. Also ...more Yes, PLEASE! It's been a full year since your last reaction to the greatest Prog Rock band EVER!! More masterpieces await.
Please dive a bit more into their proggy earlier side: Rosie has everything planned, Maybe I'm a beggar, Fool's Ouverture, Crime of the century, Another man's woman, Asylum.... a lot to choose from. You mostly covered their poppy side
Ya gotta do the full version of Cannonball. Its one of their funkiest jam session recordings. keeping up with all thats going on will be great for Jay, and the horns crank for Amber also.
Everyone's commenting that this is an obscure song. Not to me it isn't! Back in '84, when my girl left me, I basically absorbed this cassette (...Famous Last Words...)! I would walk through the park with my Walkman and feel sorry for myself, while listening to this cassette and it would make me feel better, making me feel that things will get better!
Interesting choice. Supertramp is always great but they have many songs much better than this one. Try "Fool's Overture", "Hide In Your Shell", "Asylum" and "Child of Vision" among so many more!!
Right on!!!!! Can never go wrong with Supertramp!!! You guys HAVE to do Fool's Overture. Especially the live one on TH-cam. Normally i prefer the studio when reacting but trust me the live one is off the charts.
My favorite by them is Even in the Quietest Moments. Kenny Ortega (Hugh School Musical) directed the video. The lead singer here actually sings all the backing vocals as well. Guitarist, other lead singer Roger Hodgson was late and doesn't appear in the door wop sections of the video. He left the band not long after this.
This song is all Rick Davies, which showcased his ability to sing in various ranges, in fact Hodgson had very little to do with the song, other than some guitar work. It was a time after quite a few acrimonious years, in which the relationship between Davies and Hodgson deteriorated quite badly, and the latter left the band after the album this song is taken from, called "Famous last words" in 1983.
You noticed that the doo wop group has 4 members and the band has 5 members. Roger Hodgeson didn't make the morning session for the doo wop group. He arrived in the late afternoon and is playing guitar in the band. He was pretty much done with Supertramp
British folks (particularly with Welsh ancestry) pronounce "Davies" the way we say "Davis". You can ignore the "e", whether it's Rick Davies here or Ray and Dave Davies in The Kinks. (This seems a good time to subtly plug The Kinks. "I'm Not Like Everybody Else" [1966 or 1996 version, or both], perhaps?)
THIS IS A VERY DIFFERENT SUPERTRAMP TUNE! A '50'S THROWBACK. CHECK OUT OTHER TUNES LIKE LADY, SISTER MOONSHINE, RUDY, HIDE IN YOUR SHELL, CRIME OF THE CENTURY, EVEN IN THE QUIETEST MOMENTS, FROM NOW ON, LOVERBOY, FROM NOW ON, AND GONE HOLLYWOOD.
Cant say that this is a favorite of mine. it's like most of Famous Last Words, with exception of Don't Leave Me Now, pleasant enough but it lacks that something special that Crime of the Century and Even in the Quietest Moments had,
A little Doo Wop from Supertramp. Love It. Please react to "Cannonball" next. Roger Hodgson left Supertramp shortly after this record and went solo. Check out his hit "Had A Dream (Sleeping With The Enemy)". Thanks. 😎
This song is from the last album they made with Roger Hodgson. He left partly due to being dissatisfied with the album. Its definitely not in the same league as Breakfast in America. May I suggest checking out more of their 70's music? That's the best music they made.
I don’t remember ever hearing that song before. This song must not be one there hits. So many people in the comments had never heard of this song. 7:33 !
This is off the grossly underappreciated album Famous last Words (1982). I haven't seen this video before and it doesn't even look like how I know them to look during the 1970s.
@@tonyginnetti5828 Thanks for the correction, Tony. Can't believe I initially wrote that it was off Crisis? What Crisis?. I was thinking of the song Lady off that amazing 1975 album. Both are great tunes with the word Lady in them.
I agree with your video title, but this song is pretty far down my list of Supertramp songs I listen to. I would say every one of your previous Supertramp listens was superior. I don't think you've done my favorite one yet and you are unlikely to due to its length, but if you like Supertramp (and from your reactions you seem to) I recommend at least listening to Fool's Overture [length-10:51] on your own time.
THIS is a new Supertramp song to me (apart from the name). I quite like it, but it does not begin to compare with Child Of Vision, Even In The Quietest Moments or Gone Hollywood. [For me Supertramp is the second best of all bands/music artists - not counting several great CLASSICAL MUSIC composers].
John Helliwell, Supertramp's saxophone virtuoso, breathes life into their music, especially evident in "My Kind of Lady." One the most talented band of the world. I simply love The Supertramp!
I love this song, wow, never heard it before. This song sounds like a group from the late 50’s, can’t believe it’s Supertramp!👍👏👏👏🎼🎵🎶🖤♥️
My favorite song by supertramp always has been.
Supertramp is great! Amazing albums, great songs and brilliant musicians
'Don't Leave Me Now' is the last song on the last album ('Famous Last Words') by Supertramp before the Davies and Hodgson split. It's worth a listen.
Also love "C'est le bon"
Love that song...so powerful !
Once in a while you guys react to a song I don't even know.
This obscure Supertramp song is a nice throwback to 50's and 60's doo-wop.
The falsetto part and the harmonies make you think about The Four Seasons.
Exactly, the whole song has a 50's, 60's feel to it.
Or The Bee Gees
1st thing I thought of.
Supertramp is ALWAYS Amazing!!
It's Rick Davies as lead singer here. He also harmonizes with himself, singing falsetto. Amazing band, both Rick and Roger are incredibly talented and great musicians as well as song-writers. Supertramp always a hit can’t miss!

When you have a chance listen to the Even in the Quietest Moments album all the way through. I suggest listening with headphones. It is a great album!
OMGOODNESS You are finally doing this song. I've been requesting this for other people and you to do this for years. My favorite supertramp song along with give a little bit. Thank you so much The saxophone work is the bomb.
I love this song and i love supertram. Very good choice, although with Supertramp it is difficult to go wrong
The alvum Crisis? What Crisis? Is underrated but has really great songs like Soapbox Opera. Famous Last Words is nearly perfection.
Love them! Fool's Overture is a gem.
Thanks for playing the obscure stuff of theirs. They have so many keep diving!
Looks like a tribute to the Doo wop 50’s , very well done
There are so many Supertramp songs that we haven’t even scratched the surface on. Keep them coming family.
OMG, i just love this song! Have never heard it before today, WHY? ooohh, the sax solo has just started 🎷I LOVE THIS SONG ❤❤❤❤❤🎼🎙️
Guys, please do next from them , these other's greatest hits : "Don't leave me now" , "Gone Hollywood" , "Crazy" , "Just another nervous wreck" & "Babaji"
Wow, love Super Tramp but don't think I ever heard this song before.
My favorite Supertramp song is "Fool's Overture", might be just an instrumental, I can listen to over and over.
Supertramp was one of the most underrated bands .
Wouldn't say they were underrated during their prime. However I would definitely agree that they are quite underappreciated nowadays
Thank you! Thank you! Haven't heard this song in years and have never seen the video. The whole "do-wop", "Be-bop", "malt shop" vibe was awesome!
My favorite band. I think you'd enjoy Rudy by them. Such a cool song. Great reaction!
They will love Rudy
Hey, there's a total 80's vibe that y'all haven't done yet. Produced by David Gilmour! Life in a Northern Town by Dream Academy. One of those songs that takes you to another place and time for a few minutes.
Love this. Two years in now. X3 a day. Barely got your toes wet, yet.
This is from "Famous Last Words," the last album featuring both Davies and Hodgson on songwriting and lead vocals duties.
Wow what a nice song!! I forgot about this one. Nice and cool. Many thanks guys!!
Best regards!!! 🙂
Supertramp - Child of Vision
Steely Dan - Josie
Police - Invisible Sun
XTC - Senses Working Overtime
Ratt - Lack of Communication
Such a good band. Great style, laid back and pure fun. I do suggest Peter Murphy--Cuts You Up. There's an interesting violin-like sound in the video.
They gave it the 50's Doo Wop touch! Love ST!
Love seeing this beautiful couple react to great music!
Supertramp & Amber wearing a B.B. King t-shirt...... what's not to like 🌞🎶😎🙌👍
Part of me irrationally resents this song, that Rick Davies's spotlight (single, MV) on the final album before Roger Hodgson left the group being "only" a 1950s pastiche feeds into the popular perception that Roger was 80% of the group, with people only knowing Rick for "Goodbye Stranger" and "Bloody Well Right".

You like the saxophone playing from Supertramp. Listen to "Hide in your shell" and John Helliwell on saxophone. It is great.

" crazy " is a good supertramp song
That was AWESOME !!☮️
SuperTramp! Loved them....they seem to be channeling The Temptations!
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Gone Hollywood" and "Hide In Your Shell"!!!
Yes, please do Hide in Your Shell !!
Love Gone Hollywood
"I'm in this dumb motel, right near the Taco Bell, without a hope in hell, I can't believe that I'm still around." One of my favorite lyrics.
I love Gone Hollywood. I hope they do it next but there's lots of Supertramp they could do and it would be fine.
Hide In Your Shell for sure. And Rudy. Plus From Now On
Never heard this before, but i like it. I think you would also like Pete Wingfield's "18 with a Bullet," 50s/60s-type sound but from 1975.
you obviously love Some Supertramp , be sure to check out the lead singer Roger Hodgson - Had A Dream (Sleeping With The Enemy) solo
Please dive a bit more into their proggy earlier side: Rosie has everything planned, Maybe I'm a beggar, Fool's Ouverture, Crime of the century, Another man's woman, Asylum.... a lot to choose from. You mostly covered their poppy side

This one took me TOTALLY by surprise.
worth a look at The Moody Blues ="For My Lady"
YOU HAVE TO CHECK OUT RUDY AND FOOL'S OVERTURE-BOTH ARE AMAZING RIDES!
Very Frankie. Valli & the Four.
Seasons. They have the perfect vocal style for it.
Everyone's commenting that this is an obscure song. Not to me it isn't! Back in '84, when my girl left me, I basically absorbed this cassette (...Famous Last Words...)! 💯
My 2 Best songs with Supertramp is 1. Lady 2. Dreamer
Supertramp never fail!
Dont Leave Me Now is the best song on this final album with Roger Hodgson.

Yeah, Rick mimes to Roger's vocals
@davidhuggan6315 Lol! That's Rick doing both the low and high vocals, the same as "Goodbye Stranger."

...if you wanna hear them a little more crazy (from the same album) maybe listen to the song 'Crazy' 😎
Good song good reaction
A little Doo Wop from Supertramp. Love It. Please react to "Cannonball" next. Roger Hodgson left Supertramp shortly after this record and went solo. Check out his hit "Had A Dream (Sleeping With The Enemy)". Thanks. 😎
I believe there was a "single edit" version of Cannonball. Be sure to react to the lengthier album version!
Give the song 'Cannonball' a try. Keep Rockin' 😎
Awesome…one of my favourite bands. Please do a review of their ‘Casual Conversations’
Love this song!
This song is from the last album they made with Roger Hodgson. He left partly due to being dissatisfied with the album. Its definitely not in the same league as Breakfast in America. May I suggest checking out more of their 70's music? That's the best music they made.
Recuerdo que en la escuela un amigo me vendió el cassette de Supertramp, solo conocia un hit, hasta que me encontré con esta joya de canción .
I don’t remember ever hearing that song before. This song must not be one there hits. So many people in the comments had never heard of this song. 7:33 !
BLOODY WELL RIGHT from the Crime of The Century album is probably my favorite.
Please check out 2 of their top tier songs next time, "CRIME OF THE CENTURY" and CHILD OF VISION" If you love the piano, you are in for a treat 🎹
Roger Hodgson missed a day recording the video so that's why he's not one the backup singers
If you want to go to the other end of the spectrum with Supertramp, have a listen to Crime of the Century
The video version is very good but the album version you’ll want to listen to if you want a longer sax session. Amazing song!
So weird to see Roger and Rick without their beards. LoL
Thanx!
You need to do "EVEN IN THE QUIETEST MOMENTS" for the next Supertramp song. You still have not done it yet!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Roger Hodgson does the falsetto vocals.
No
roger and rick we re ready to go their own way just by seeing this video
This is off the grossly underappreciated album Famous last Words (1982). I haven't seen this video before and it doesn't even look like how I know them to look during the 1970s.
This song was from their 1982 lp "Famous Last Words"!
@@tonyginnetti5828 Thanks for the correction, Tony. Can't believe I initially wrote that it was off Crisis? What Crisis?. I was thinking of the song Lady off that amazing 1975 album. Both are great tunes with the word Lady in them.

You gotta do Hide in your Shell sometime it’s a classic!😃
You REALLY need to check out some of Roger’s solos work. His Open the Door album is fabulous.
Not a familiar Supertramp song for most people. Other popular songs you haven't reacted to yet. Rudy and Hide In Your Shell.
Does anyone know of a Supertramp song that has something to do with a Subway Train? Not "Rudy" but a newer song I think.
Hey Guys, try Dr Buzzard and the Savannah band. Bunch of great songs.
