It bugs me that they cut the song out of Superman (along with The Platters and Bill Haley) for the non-theatrical versions of the film. It was presumably cheaper to replace it with generic music and static.

An excellent merger of hippie-era "let's make the world a better place" lyrics and layered 1970s jazz-influenced music that wouldn't be out of place on a Steely Dan tune. Classic. No wonder Lex remembers it so well.

There are far too many great songs from which to choose, so I'm just going to point you towards the albums "Crisis, What Crisis" and "Crime of the Century." Even our kids were into these songs and would sing along! Especially the family favourite "Dreamer." You two are a joy. Keep on keeping on. 🙂🙏🙂

Nice reaction guys; love me some Supertramp. Funny how music can take you somewhere, in a nostalgic sense, even though you can't remember being in that place before. That feeling of taking you home. Like Roger states in the song... "don't you need to feel at home?". I think we all long for that safe spot and if we can be transported there for only a few minutes, by the power of music, then magic is still alive. ✌️

Per Songfacts Supertramp singer/gutiarist Roger Hodgson wrote this song when he was a teenager, but didn't record it until much later. It was about five years between when he wrote the song and when he brought it to the band. When we spoke with Hodgson in 2012, he explained: "I think it's a great song. I didn't realize it was when I first wrote it. It actually took me six years before I even brought it to the band. But I wrote it I think around 1970. That time, the late '60s, early '70s, was a very idealistic time, one of hope, a lot of peace and love and the dream of the '60s was still very alive and maturing, if you like. The Beatles had put out 'All You Need Is Love' a year prior to that. I believed in love - it was always for love - and just felt that was the most important thing in life.
That song has really taken on a life of its own, and I think it's even more relevant today than when I wrote it. Because we really are needing to value love in a much deeper way, and also we're needing to care. The song is basically saying: just show you care. You know, reach out and show you care. So in concert it's the perfect show closer, because what I try to do in my show over two hours is unify the audience and unify all of us. So that at the end, when everyone stands up for 'Give A Little Bit,' they're open and ready to open their hearts and sing at the top of their lungs and go away with a smile on their face. And that song really does, it has a very pure energy. The moment I start, people just start smiling. It's amazing."

Released 27 May 1977 Give a Little Bit" is the opening song on Supertramp's 1977 album Even in the Quietest Moments... The song was released as a single that same year and became an international hit for the band, peaking at number 15 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart. It was a chart hit in the band's native UK, reaching number 29 on the UK Singles Chart. The single was re-released in 1992 to raise funds for the ITV Telethon Charity event, but failed to chart.
Its writing credits are given to Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson, although it is a Hodgson composition.[4] Hodgson and Davies shared writing credits from 1974 until 1983, when Hodgson left Supertramp.
"Give a Little Bit" was first written by Hodgson when he was 19 or 20 years old before it was introduced to the band for recording five to six years later. Hodgson stated that the song was inspired by the Beatles' "All You Need Is Love", released during the love and peace movement of the 1960s.
Drummer Bob Siebenberg recounted that "Roger had been working at Malibu for quite a while on this tune. I'd hear the song in hotel rooms and places like that. He had the song on a little tape when I first joined the band so I was quite familiar with the tune. We tried out various drum things and it seemed right to ride it along on the snare drum giving it something almost like a train beat. So it's all on the snare and bass drum, with no tom-tom fills or anything.

I know in the past decade it was used as a background track in a commercial, though I can't remember what product or service the commercial was for, thinking some medicine most likely.
Just the way Lex's face lighted up once Hodgson started singing with her infectious smile brightened my day. Keep on exploring all these great bands. A few I would recommend would be:
Five Man Electrical Band - Absolutely Right
Sam Cooke - Another Saturday Night
John Melloncamp (or Buddy Holly original performer) - Rave On
Paul Mccartney & Wings - Nineteen Hundred Eighty Five
Jim Stafford - Swamp Witch (which would be a great reaction for Halloween coming up)
Hope you guys are well and all is good. Have always enjoyed watching you guys react to some of my favorite music. Peace!

Supertramp definitely aren't mainstream rock..... but they're so innovative and catchy! Anytime I hear one of their songs somewhere I'm happy to listen and sing along!

Lex you did get it right, 'there's so much that we need to share' is at the beginning at .55 in the video! As soon as you said it I thought he's already sung that bit! Your baby hears the music in the womb, water is a better conductor than air...I listened to Enya a lot when I was pregnant with my daughter and when she was born sometimes the only thing that would settle her was Enya and it was also the first music she sang and danced to at 6 months old while holding onto the cupboard.

Now you gone and opened up a can of worms.....Supertramp were MASTERS of writing hit songs (along the lines of the beatles for comparison) in chronological order listen to (1974) School, Dreamer. Crime of the Century, Bloody Well Right (1975) Lady, Sister Moonshine, (1977) Even in the Quietest Moments, Fools Overture, (you already hit Give A Little Bit from the same album) (1979) The Logical Song, Goodbye Stranger, Breakfast in America, and Take The Long Way Home

One of my favorite songs. It seems about free love and loving one another. Like "Love the One You're With" by CSN. One of the best endings of a song. "The Boxer" by Simon and Garfunkel has a great ending too.

Need more Supertramp (tons of '70s and '80s hits) to react to and less Led Zeppelin, Rush! lol
"Dreamer" and "It's Raining Again" are next.
Brad, saxophones were pretty common in music back in the '70s, '80s and '90s.
