I think if people bid then that is the price they are looking for and if it suits you then provided their feedback is ok then there is no issue. Some people may bid low to get the job as they already made money and simply want some extra to get home.
I always try to get 1.25pm as a LWB but I would settle for £1.10 but never go lower. If it’s to a quite remote area I add on the cost of fuel and time to get to an area where I’m likely to pick up a job.
For ADR work I never go below £2 a mile with a minimum of £75. I some some out there go lower but that’s up to them, I personally think they are stupid considering what they are carrying and the expense they’ve gone through to get the licence and equipment.
I have bid for small van jobs at LWB rates and got it as I’ve seen they are struggling to clear the job.
Sometimes the time of day dictates the price I bid on a job. If it’s late and I’ll end up working antisocial hours then I want more, I’m sure the shipper will be charging his customer appropriately.
Of course I don’t get a lot of the jobs I bid on but what I get I’m happy with or I wouldn’t have put the price in.
    Interesting content that James

Thanks for the comment, yeh I completely agree it’s up the the drivers what the bid and up to me what I want to pay, but just wanna make sure it’s fair and no one’s getting a raw deal. I think too many people on the CX still think they need to go cheap to get the work, were as they don’t and they should be bidding higher and getting better rates. As a shipper aswell ofcourse I want to make money but I still want to pay a fair rate. 👌🏼 your prices are fair Dave

I am very happy with what you are doing. I like you to talk about prices more often. specially what shippers charge their customers for jobs so we can as drivers get fair deal

Great video pal thank you for going so in depth with this, interesting to see what you pay.
South Wales is a funny old area for CX work... I do quite a lot of jobs to there as I Normally get good money for them and the drive to it from my area is epic. I go across the Shropshire hills and Brecon Beacons... 8 times out of 10 I'll run home empty from there but it is what it is...
    Keep up the great content.

You really need 1.50 for a luton. A full tank is £120 and you'll only get 400 miles from that. Any less than 1.50 you may aswell run a berlingo

    • @JamesFletcherVlogs
      @JamesFletcherVlogs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Very good point pal, yeh that’s the problem with a Luton awful on fuel and fuel costs a fortune, a pal of mine runs 2 Luton’s and charges £2 a mile minimum. Don’t blame him with running cost of a Luton.
      Thanks for watching 👌🏼

You pay well, I run a SWB and I never win jobs to Scotland because I always price it at my normal rate.
I've started to wonder wether people go really cheap on long jobs to Scotland.

@@JamesFletcherVlogs yeah cheers mate, when I'm out my ppm is usually pretty good unless it's a get home job. I won't run for peanuts, I keep a nice looking fairly new van and like to do a good job, never had negative feedback. Not worth selling ourselves short.

    Silly question
    - how do you get these jobs that you post on the exchange - as I keep hearing that’s where the money is ……

    • @JamesFletcherVlogs
      @JamesFletcherVlogs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Honestly you just have to persistently approach companies and basically say you can do there deliveries better than who they already use and get them to switch to you, then you end up with more than you can do and either subbie the rest on the CX or get more drivers of your own. Sounds simple but it’s difficult.

Why? Why do you need other peoples opinions on what you're paying and charging?

Paul, I’ve been in this industry over 10 years and I’ve seen companies take the piss out of customers, I’ve seen drivers struggle because they think they’re getting the best they can and if they want more they won’t work. Maybe I’m too nice but I just want things to be fair in the industry. Everyone can make money doing this, and I just wanted peoples opinions regarding the matter. I apologise that I seem to offend you.
Thanks for watching the video. Feel free to email me if you wanna chat about anything further.

@@JamesFletcherVlogs as I've said previously, that's just business. I've been in transport for 40+ years now and I've learnt the hard way that no one is going to hand you it all on a plate. It's probably one of the most competitive, fierce industries on the planet. The entry level is virtually Zero, a van, driving licence, mobile phone and hey presto I'm a courier. All these sort of videos do is try to build yourself a TH-cam name and income, and convince any newbie or prospective newbie that it's easy money. The number of people that think that a certain exchange for couriers subscription is the key to fortune and fame is scary. Believe me when I say the only people that make serious money out of said exchange are xxxx themselves, the best of the best businesses on there, and the unscrupulous crooks who by virtue of a 16 digit number get a run for their money fleecing all unsundry before they get kicked off. I'm not knocking you or anyone else for giving it a try but too many videos encouraging co loading and piss poor attitudes boil my piss

Hi Paul, thanks for that very thorough response.
I'm not advocating for co loading, I disagree with co loading unless the customer says it’s a no rush job then I’ll allow it but I’ve never done it myself or suggested anyone do it, especially without permission. As for the poor attitude I'm not sure how that's related to my video. I'm sure with your experience of the industry you should be able to appreciate a video trying to gauge what is suitable to charge for everyone... which is what I'm trying to do. If people want to join the CX that's up to their own personal choice. These videos are nor for "fame or fortune" theyre just there to seek advice for my own business. Also I'm not trying to say it's easy, I certainly wouldn't be making a video asking for advice on topics around it if I felt it was easy.
As I stated above if you've got anything else you wish to discuss drop me an email. Hope you stop boiling soon, thanks again for watching and commenting!

@@pbhd8 As a newbie (3 months in the business), I can say that your comments don't make any sense. I have spoken to a few other people that have started recently and like me, nobody so far was under the illusion that it was easy money. Many, including myself were likely to be making less money than they were when they were employed.
Critics of these channels always seem to get things backwards. I don't think many people are getting into the industry because they watched youtube. Most people are looking for videos of pandas sneezing.
In my case I wanted to be a courier driver. I had considered it many times in my life (I'm 55), but until recently I was too scared to give up my regular job. Once I decided to bite the bullet, like most responsible people starting a business, I did loads of research. One of those many lines of research involved watching youtube videos. I found them useful and they actually directed me towards other lines of research.
So to be clear. People are watching these videos because they want to be courier drivers and need some information. I don't believe people are becoming courier drivers because they watched these videos. Why would they even be watching them when they could be watching a cat fall off a table?
It seems to me that you would rather people started blind. That way they are more likely to fail and then you have less competition.
You said that you learnt the hard way. I'm currently learning the hard way. Actually doing the job is a challenge, but I'm loving the challenge and I'm grateful for the youtube content creators for their information as it has helped me avoid some of the pitfalls, but the existence of the videos hasn't handed me anything on a plate. That's just ridiculous.
As for co loading. The main reason I don't co load is because these types of videos. Squeezing a few extra quid out of a job is just more trouble than it's worth and I'd rather shippers see me as someone they will use again.
Also, think about it for a few seconds. If more people were aware of what a fair price actually is, then maybe we wouldn't be getting the race to the bottom that everyone is complaining about. Surely that's a good thing.

@@hot5and77 I think Paul is just sore that he had to spend years learning in order to thrive in the industry but lousy old new drivers like you and I can watch a few videos whilst sitting on the toilet seat and gain the somewhat similar knowledge although not experience, without having to grind and learning it the hard way by grafting a few months falling over and getting back up again and again like a toddler.
Life isn’t fair but don’t hate because someone else has it easier
Then again I “might” be wrong……. Tis just my opinion

Hi pal, I don’t think you’ve understood the video. The prices stated in the video are how much I have been charged by other CX drivers. They are not the prices I am charging my customers. I do pay my tax too, not sure where that comes into it though. Thanks for watching 👌🏼
