Sometimes we just need to be inspired by someone else's courage to peel the wrappers off from art supplies and discover a new way of seeing color. I loved this super tip! Thanks, Sandi! ♡
First of all, how could anyone forget the moment you found the second tray of Neocolor II’s, it was epic. Second of all, I love the laminated idea and I want to do that with my Regina’s Watercolor palette!! Thank you for another great haul! 🤩☺️😘🤗😍
Art books! Fabric! Pastels! and Grapes! Who could ask for more? Then a thrift shopping spree for art painting clothes! Really enjoyed your creative remake of the wool sweater. In love with your pond and tree art with added neo pastels. I SO needed to watch this today. Thank you for all of it.
Here's a slight hint. My husband went tuna fishing and didn't wear protective pants over his jeans and the smell of tuna fish was overwhelming and he couldn't get it out I washed it in everything. .... many times .....nothing worked until I ran across an article said sometimes to get really bad odors out of clothing when you wash them is to wash them with carpet cleaner. So I took about a half a cup of carpet cleaner and put in the wash and it worked he didn't have to throw the jeans away especially when they were new ones!
I think you're going to love the neopastel. I have the 96 and use it all the time. I use the mungyo and the neopastels for my first layers. When I need pops and more unique colors for finishing touches, I use the sennelier. Would love more oil pastel content if you're so inclined!
You are so delightful, I get so inspired by watching your art hauls, process videos and sharing your overall goodness about all things art. Please share your source for the fabrics. Fabric patterns are a great source for background ideas. Many thanks and have a joy filled 2022.
oh my goodness! i loved that little clothing haul. now i want to go to goodwill and find some dresses. i wear old gray joggers and a sweat shirt...how boring. i want to look like a bag lady while i'm painting. you are so creative! and what fun to find the fabrics for inspiration. you give me so many fun ideas!!!!
That entire video was amazing and so much fun. I was drooling over the pastels - what a beautiful set. And I LOVE your initial painting that you layered with the new pastels. Amazing color and depth. And with all that goodness, your thrift store clothing haul is fabulous! All of it. But.....the wool sweater with the sock shoulders, I will not forget that. The funniest thing ever - just made me laugh out loud. Thank you again for a fabulous Friday with Sandi.
I just love you. Your style is not my style, but I love watching your videos anyway. As I said on another video, I love that I can see and hear your inner child and it just makes me smile. Thank you for your content.
Sandi loved this! I love what you did for the grey jumper it just looks layered that's all I see alot of jumpers with two toned layering. The dresses you could ware a very close cozy layer longsleeves inside. You took the sleeves off the pastels because it worked for you simplified things visually😘 your paintings are gorgeous. My cat owns my desk my chair my bed he helps out alot like all the time 🐾I love the way you talk to your Cooper and cat 😋 thanks for sharing Sandi 😘💜
That white floral dress is awesome! It looks like little bits of art you'd paint in some of your florals. I hope you stay nice and toasty and are enjoying the holiday season. Have a great weekend and thank you for the video!
Another fab video.....thesocks sewn into the neck looked interesting!! I thought you did a pretty good job!! Really enjoyed this video it made me smile!!x
I did what you did back then when I bought the Neopastel 48 set, I removed all their wrappers for the same reason. Then I stopped using them for a looong time, years. When I decided to use them again I discovered that they had developed some kind of white-ish patina, I guess is the oil, wax or whatever, I don’t know. In any case I can still use them no problem and I’m sure that won’t happen to most people that use their materials reasonably often (lol). I love my Caran D’ache since day one, I LOVE them more especially after trying other brands, Sennelier, Mungyo come after. And you’re right, Pentel are nice too, unbeatable ratio quality/price. Thank you for your videos Sandi, they are fresh air for me. And thank you for letting us know about Idris Murphy, beautiful works, like yours.
Oh Sandi, I can’t tell you how much I love 💕 and enjoy 😊 your channel. The socks 🧦 sewn into the jumper are hilarious 🤣 and exactly the sort of thing I’m known for doing too. And the paintings you’ve done with your new pastels are gorgeous 🤩👏👏👍 Thank you ☺️ thank you ☺️ thank you ☺️ x x x
Such a great , informative review. I keep going back and forth between Neopastel and Sennelier. Occasionally I get caught up in the “ top of the line hype” with Sennelier which are indeed awesome. But I truly adore Neopastels for all the reasons you cited. I feel more freedom with Neos because layering is a dream. No worrying about gooey , muddy issues. And oh those gorgeous colors !!!!
I do love your style, both in art, and in the way you dress for art. You epitomize what I think a female artist would (does) look like. Can’t wait to see you in these clothes.
You are hysterical! When you popped up to share your new sweater with the sock pieces added at the shoulders, I nearly spit my lunch out because I laughed so hard. Thank you so much for sharing the real you. I can completely relate :)
Your so funny!I smile the whole time I'm watching you.I never thought of buying used clothes to paint in.Im always ruining my cozy things.I enjoy your videos so much!Thank you 🤗
Yeah, I'm always ruining good clothes that I tell myself I'm not gonna ruin until I do. Thrift shopping is the way to go. Thanks for sharing your shopping spree, enough with the ruining of good clothes!!! I needed that.
Goodwill? I am a big thrift shopper and I do some part-time vintage reselling too. But I never thought of buying some painting clothes. That's a great idea. I'll have to try it sometime. Glad you found some great things. 👍
@@sandihester Last year?? I started buying used clothes for painting because no matter how old my own clothes are I always find myself trying to get the paint out like I don’t want to hurt my clothes. It’s so weird. Also I had a difficult time letting myself get paint on my jackets or coats. But after finding Patagonia and REI jackets and coats that work so much better in wind and rain I stopped wearing any of my other jackets. So I finally took one into my studio last winter and deliberately let myself get paint on it. Now I have a painting jacket! It’s so smart that you buy inspiring and colorful clothes to paint in. That’s now on my list! Thanks!
I get so inspired from your videos! I usually paint pretty tight. I challenged myself to paint in a style that is not my usual style, in colors i do not usually use, and a subject I normally don't paint. I did a fairly loose interior painting that even had a "Sandi Hester" painting on the wall in the back ground, complete with lemons, a banana, little green juicer, a pitcher and an outlet with a cord plugged in! It was smooth much fun to do!
Hi, Sandi! I haven't commented before, but I've been a big fan for a while, and this is my favorite video so far! I can't afford the art books, but I've always loved Vuillard, and Bonnard is now my new fav (found some of their work online). B. has an inner glow in some of his work, and I love his inside/outside thing. I also loved the Neopastel part and the idea of making a numbered chart, taking the wrappers off, and breaking them. (I'm a really tight, detailed artist trying to get looser.) How do you keep the oil pastel paintings in your sketchbook from smudging (or don't you care)? The thrift store clothes part was a hoot, too. I love your humor, your excitement, your 100% sharing, etc., etc. Our styles are super different, but that's helping me. Thanks from the bottom of my heart! Maggie S., Eugene, OR.
Sandi...🙂 Caran D´Ache are superb, it´s common here in Europe, there´s many art materials you get we can´t get, but Caran D´Ache are a classic, be it pens, pencils or pastels...they go fast though, too fast. Lovely to see your fun videos and hear your idiossyncratic choices, bringing a personal caracterization to something that othwerwise could be a tad boring. Love to you!
Woop woop it's a Friday haul 🙌 .Sandi I ADORE the caran d'ache Neopastels ,They are one of my favourite mediums. I was lucky to find a tin full of these in my local charity shop .They were from the 1970's and still have beautiful colour and cover .thank you for this fun video ...when I heard the opening tune I thought Hank was going to be lurking around .

The body fluid skirt resurfaces! 😂 I laughed so hard when you shared that find in your IG story. Love the sock shoulders too. Your creativity is so inspiring!
Great video! Thank you so much! I have NEVER taken the wrappers off my pastels or oil pastels --- what a great idea. It's so much easier to see what you're working with. Also I loved those Murphy inspired paintings ... the strange creamy colors of the landscapes are SO delicious. Yum. I had never noticed Vuillard and his pattern work ... it made me like him a lot more. Bonnard is probly my favorite artist and his paintings of just day to day things, his wife in the tub, dachshunds, etc. I just love so much. Sandi - those simple shapes with those neopastels - ohso gorgeous and rich ... love, love love. x
You make me laugh so much! thanks Sandi, I love starting my early mornings with your videos! love the pastel review. Im not a sock folder so breaking the sticks and removing the wrappers doesn’t bother me. My original home was back in Canada with the bone chilling winters I have now left behind for the hot tropics of southern Panama SA. I remember going to second hand stores for yummy sweaters! Thanks for sharing that haul, brought memories back. Sewing the socks on the shoulders was too funny. Im already signed up for your online course and so excited! Love the books! I just bought a book I saw on Natasha Newton’s channel called “Natures Palette Reference” this book is absolutely amazing! 1000 illustrations of color pallets found in natures. The book itself is gorgeous! Absolute wonderful for any artist. There are a few reviews on TH-cam of the book as well. Thanks again for the longer video!
I also have some of those paint containers that have the screw on lid and Ive found that if you add a piece of saran wrap and then screw the lid on that it seals a lot better 😊 hope that helps
Hi Sandi, I wondered if I was the only one who has special artwork clothes lol! I get mine mostly at the thrift shop too. Love your videos - they always inspire. Great fashion show! Cheers
Love this video. Good idea for color chart Identification for bits and broken pieces. I’m inspired again. Set up a still life on my kitchen table 2-24 -22 😊❤️
I LOVE YOUR BUBBLY PERSONALITY. I LOVE YARD SALES AND THRIFT SHOPS FOR THINGS TO SET UP TO DRAW. i HAVE FOUND GREAT STATUES OVER THE YEARS. I JUST GOT THE 12 SET OF NEOPASTELS TO TRY WITH AN EXTRA WHITE. CANSON HAS NEW PAD OF XL DRY MEDIA SAND GRAIN PAD IN NATURAL OR GRAY . LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
Yes! The video I have been waiting for. I am just loving the landscape you’ve been doing - so inspiring - and the oil pastels on acrylic paintings are a great effect. As for removing the paper on the oil pastels, I thought it was genius, but when I saw you do it with the Neocolor II, I wondered how you would know what the colors were if you needed to restock. Now I know the answer. Re: green paints - I am wondering if you have tried the Liquitex Green Gold yet. I just got this, thinking it was about the same as the Golden color with the same name, but it is different. I know you said you mix all your own greens (at least for foliage, etc.) and this is one of the only greens I have seen (maybe the only one) which could be uses as-is straight from the bottle/tube. It’s fairly similar to a mixture made with yellow oxide and ivory black. It looks great diluted and also mixed with white.
That's one wonky sweater!! I love your choice of clothing!! You're amazing Sandy! And so is your artwork! My style is similar to yours but my clothing is a bit different!LOL Actually I have serious health problems and I live in long term poverty so it's tough for me because all of our money goes to food. We have people helping us though. But that won't bring me down cuz I'm still an artist and I love to be creative! I have a passion for art since I was a child and I've always wanted to be a professional artist, it's just that opportunities don't open up much. I've been abused all my life and art for me is a healing mechanism and a coping mechanism too. Thank you Sandy! Your art is truly beautiful!
Sandi,Love your Art haul and the landscapes you revisited with the pastels, such a great look.Love it ALL but I am still cracking up here at the body fluids skirt, that’s the kind of thing I get the giggles at in the early hours when I can’t sleep for thinking about the next days painting,I will have to shove part of the duvet in my mouth so I don’t wake hubby up🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.I too have a grey sweater like that,I call it my dogs bed look😂Your videos are the Best and I revisit them over and over. The Books look great too,so much in this one it will be a real fave.Hugs xx❤️
I’m going to steel that - the dog bed look 😂😂😂! And, apologies to the husband of you wake him up with the giggles!!! The body fluid skirt is my fave - I wear it almost every day 😂!
I just feel you are so cool as a person and your colour feeling has that genius bless, I can see it Just glad I've found this channel, it's inspiring))
The aquarelle pastels are my favourite material , they are such vivid colours . Are you aware that they are water soluble too ? I like them as they are a bit more intense than watercolours.
Yeah, I’m still watching old videos. Geez, you and I need to get together and go bowling. Talk about fabric and book obsessions! Just yesterday I was on Amazon looking at Indian Saris. You can get saris for cheap and use them for your fabric whatevers. Pierre Bonnard is another artist besides Andre Derain your work reminded me of. Saw some pieces at the deYoung in San Francisco a few years ago and my jaw dropped when I saw his colors. Ok, back to watching you play with your pastels.
I just love your videos Sandi, so much fun and so inspiring! Your grey wool sweater with the "sock shoulders" cracked me up! You could start a whole new fashion trend with that. 😄 I suggest crocheting around the neck opening to make it fit better. I would do it for you if I lived closer! 😄❤️
Sandi, you should try Charlies Soap for your laundry. I used it for my cloth diapers when my kids were young and have continued to use it because it does such a good job, has no smell, and removes odors.
A tip on how to fix the neckline of the gray sweater. It’s easy I promise. Lay the garment flat on a surface. No wrinkles. Measure from one armhole across the shoulder to the other side. Measure your shoulder width from where you arm(s) meet your shoulder. Write that natural shoulder width down. Measure where you want your finished neckline to be on your shoulder and take another measurement of armhole to finished sweater shoulder width. Take this overall finished shoulder measurement to create a stay tape. Which is a 1/4 to 1/2 twill, bias or hemming tape cut to your finished should length measurement. A piece of ribbon or shoe string would work fine. Sew into garment only tacking to each armhole at shoulder seam. It should be loose except at armhole. This will hold the sweater on and make the finished neckline opening smaller and have a fixed stop. Your mom who sews should understand what I wrote. Honestly its not as complicated as this sounds. You simply have a shorter fixed tape that is attached at each armhole at the shoulder line. Yes a drawing would have explained this better :). But TH-cam doesn’t let me do that! :) The neckline will probably still gap, but no wings! :).
P.s Sandi,I just bought some fingerless gloves for painting in the studio on those cold days to come, they work a treat.....thought it might complete your look 🤪😍x
i am new to your channel, and so happy that i have discovered you....sweet, charming, authentic, talented and most helpful and inspiring...i'm working on an overhaul of my studio, and your magnetic panel has me smitten. please tell more about how to get one that size.
Hi Sandi as always I just love your videos and your spirit, you always excite me and encourage me to try. I would so love to see you do a still life of Christmas, a tree fireplace stockings kind of night before Christmasish . PS love the clothes, the sock on the sweater cracked me up.
You’re so great Sandi. Can you show us how you apply fixative? And which do you use? I want those pastels now but I never know how to deal with fixative. The clothes are perfect! Socks are too funny. I look forward to seeing those fabrics and grapes in future works.
Oh what fun! I know what you mean about splurging on the art books. One of my major fine art muses is Georgia O'Keefe. Even the used books that show most of her major works are way out of my budget. I know I can see her work online, but I want a printed paper book with beautiful color plates that I can flip through and study and that won't strain my eyes. Maybe 🤔 one of these days.
Have you tried eBay? “Someone” 😉😊 (cough, cough, Sandi) got me into art books again and eBay has been a good low cost place. Oh! I also discovered you can get Christie’s art auction catalogues (they’re epic) for very low prices too. Happy hunting!!
Hmmm. Very tempting, I find materials like this a bit terrifying though! I love ordinary pastels but my only experience with oil pastels has not been what these do. I really like what you were achieving and I love that thing about drawing colour rather than painting. Delighted by your delight!
Wonderful, Sandy! Very envious of that blue long sweater you got ;) I also have a anti odour tip. Hang the clothes outside for a day or two! I swear it works wonders. I got som clothes from my dad, that smelled of smoke and washed with all tricks in the book, but after 24 hours hanging freely on the porch, it was GONE. Very cheaply too, for everyone :) Thank you for the lovely video, might try those pastels now :D
K that was fun!!! And Sandi…where is the video of the painting with what looked like a green striped chair? I was doing my best to peek at that. I loved it.
I think your art is great. I researched other art that galleries praise, I watch exhibitions on u tube too. This helped my confidence because I could see that my art was not much different and I stick to what I enjoy doing without worrying if it is good or not. Love from your new subscriber 💐🌻🐝✨✨✨✨✨

I had never noticed Vuillard and his pattern work ... it made me like him a lot more. Bonnard is probly my favorite artist and his paintings of just day to day things, his wife in the tub, dachshunds, etc. I just love so much.
Sandi - those simple shapes with those neopastels - ohso gorgeous and rich ... love, love love. x
Thank you Michele - I’m so glad you liked the video and the paintings!

I had some people tell me it’s very dangerous due to chemicals exposure… have you considered 😔
So excited you’re going to be in the class Gwen!!! The palette book sounds amazing!!
I also have some of those paint containers that have the screw on lid and Ive found that if you add a piece of saran wrap and then screw the lid on that it seals a lot better 😊 hope that helps
Great tip Rachelle!
Hi Sandi, I wondered if I was the only one who has special artwork clothes lol! I get mine mostly at the thrift shop too. Love your videos - they always inspire. Great fashion show! Cheers
When in doubt - get the whole set! Thank you for another great haul.
These pastels looks like so much fun!
I’m going to make that my motto!!! 😂😂😂
Hellow Sandi, vey like your shopping, i very like your new pastel paintings, fabrics and this books, very like this all.
I love your channel. It warms my heart and gives me the giggles.
So glad - especially the giggles!

OH MY GOODNESS!!! You look stunning in red!
Awe - thank you Dawnita!
Love this video. Good idea for color chart Identification for bits and broken pieces. I’m inspired again. Set up a still life on my kitchen table 2-24 -22 😊❤️
Ohhhh! Have fun with it Marilyn!
I feel like a child when I do mixed media collage...it's fun glueing and sticking!
Yes!!!!
Lots of fun stuff! Love it all!
So glad!!
I break smaller pieces off of my oil pastels too. Makes them much more manageable.
Agree! I can’t imagine using them whole again!
Love these! And yes, they look scrumptious without the papers on.
👍🏻🙌🤗

Thank you Becky!!!!
Ohhhhhh - I’m adding it to my cart now!!!! Thank you!
@@sandihester Oh yes, green gold is a mainstay!
Wow Michele- I love your attitude. I’m so sorry about the health problems and poverty on top of that - crazy hard!
Love to see you painting and more tip on your you tube channel
I just feel you are so cool as a person and your colour feeling has that genius bless, I can see it
Just glad I've found this channel, it's inspiring))
Awe - thank you Lelya!!!!!
The aquarelle pastels are my favourite material , they are such vivid colours . Are you aware that they are water soluble too ? I like them as they are a bit more intense than watercolours.
First time watching your video....subscribed...love your vibe, peaceful and calm..thank you for this beautiful channel ❤️❤️
Welcome! So glad you liked it!!
I just got back into the land of good internet and was so happy that I was still able to get a spot in your workshop!
Whoohoooi!!!!! So glad to hear that 🤗🙌🤗🙌
Good to see you back Sandi, I hope you get a chance to get some rest soon! Such a fun video!🥰
Thanks for sharing your haul and explaining your process with the materials.
You’re so welcome Julie!!!

Not sure if my wallet can stand another haul but we are gonna see haha.
Ohhhh no!!!!
This cracked me up! I’m actually pretty good at bowling 😂
@@sandihester oh, then you’ll sure beat me at it, but I would still bowl with you. Hugs!
That’s so sweet Gwen! I think I got it fixed!
@@sandihester Yay! We'll have to get an update 😄
Sandi, you should try Charlies Soap for your laundry. I used it for my cloth diapers when my kids were young and have continued to use it because it does such a good job, has no smell, and removes odors.
Ohhhh - I’ve never heard of it! Can you get it in the US?
@@sandihester Yes! You can order if off of Amazon!
Love the haul! I’m looking to play with pastels so that part is very helpful and I’ve always enjoyed having a arting wardrobe.
Glad you enjoyed it Anggie!
Thank you!!!!! I’ll give it a try!
P.s Sandi,I just bought some fingerless gloves for painting in the studio on those cold days to come, they work a treat.....thought it might complete your look 🤪😍x
I LOVE fingerless gloves and have probably 6-8 pairs of them 😂
Maravillous NEOPASTEL
Love the neopastels!!
Great idea removing wrappers. My set arriving Sunday. I will make a color chart then strip those babies. 😊❤️
Ohhhhh fun!!!!
i am new to your channel, and so happy that i have discovered you....sweet, charming, authentic, talented and most helpful and inspiring...i'm working on an overhaul of my studio, and your magnetic panel has me smitten. please tell more about how to get one that size.
We just got a thin price of metal from the hardware store
Hi Sandi as always I just love your videos and your spirit, you always excite me and encourage me to try. I would so love to see you do a still life of Christmas, a tree fireplace stockings kind of night before Christmasish . PS love the clothes, the sock on the sweater cracked me up.
Thank you Michele!!! So glad you enjoyed it!!!
I was in the met ( NYC)last week and saw a painting of him. (Vuillard).Never heard of him but the painting was amazing and quite large.
These paintings are so great!
Thank you so much!
You’re so great Sandi. Can you show us how you apply fixative? And which do you use? I want those pastels now but I never know how to deal with fixative. The clothes are perfect! Socks are too funny. I look forward to seeing those fabrics and grapes in future works.
Yes, I’ll share that soon Dana!
@@sandihester Thank you!!
I love your art !!! 😻😻😻
Thank you!!!
Gorgeous painting
Very like this new clothes
Oh what fun! I know what you mean about splurging on the art books. One of my major fine art muses is Georgia O'Keefe. Even the used books that show most of her major works
are way out of my budget. I know I can see her work online, but I want a printed paper book with beautiful color plates that I can flip through and study and that won't strain my eyes. Maybe 🤔 one of these days.
Yeah - I like something I can flip through too!
Have you tried eBay? “Someone” 😉😊 (cough, cough, Sandi) got me into art books again and eBay has been a good low cost place. Oh! I also discovered you can get Christie’s art auction catalogues (they’re epic) for very low prices too. Happy hunting!!
th-cam.com/video/ZQb8v_Lgnrc/w-d-xo.html
Hmmm. Very tempting, I find materials like this a bit terrifying though! I love ordinary pastels but my only experience with oil pastels has not been what these do. I really like what you were achieving and I love that thing about drawing colour rather than painting. Delighted by your delight!
I’ve never tried regular pastels Lindy. I find those frightening 😂
Well that’s the easiest tip - definitely trying that next time Elisabeth!!! Thank you!
th-cam.com/video/ZQb8v_Lgnrc/w-d-xo.html
K that was fun!!! And Sandi…where is the video of the painting with what looked like a green striped chair? I was doing my best to peek at that. I loved it.
Hmmmm, not sure - what part of the video and where was the painting? Behind me on the easel?
I think your art is great. I researched other art that galleries praise, I watch exhibitions on u tube too. This helped my confidence because I could see that my art was not much different and I stick to what I enjoy doing without worrying if it is good or not. Love from your new subscriber 💐🌻🐝✨✨✨✨✨
Thank you Jane! I definitely think everyone is bette off just doing what you love - totally agree!! So glad you’re enjoying the videos!
Oh so lovely! I am wondering, what do you use to keep your oil pastels from smudging, Sandi?
Oil pastels fixative
