    Hey everybody! So this video started out as a totally unscripted conversation between Ben and me (I didn't even let him know the questions ahead of time lol... which I think really speaks to his genuine knowledge base) but I decided to do something a little more creative with it. If you liked this shortened, more post-produced interview format, please let me know by commenting below! As usual, all the relevant links are in the description. Enjoy!

      All your videos are informative and appreciated, but the standard scripted videos with anamations and concise facts are really well done, modern, and what separate you from the rest of the fitness community.
      Anytime I speak to people about fitness on the fly, I always wish I said something else or something different, him even mentioning Beta Alanine in a top 3 supplement video lends to my point. Even though he was clarifying that it wouldn’t be on his list

      I'm very interested in possible getting a guest who is educated in the field of dna and how it relates to how you should train and eat. Like, if any of the Fitgenes and Vitagene websites that take your dna and tell you what food intolerance you have, how you should train based on your fiber type, how to respond to endurance, power, and anaerobic training, etc. any of this make sense?

    • @jabba969
      @jabba969 6 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      I'm actually an endurance athlete, so beta alanine is very useful for me. Beta-alanine is a supplement with a lot of research supporting its benefits. It's just that those benefits are generally unimportant to your average person that goes to the gym to lift weights.

    • @bmac4686
      @bmac4686 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      What’s interesting is there is a lot of research supporting benefits of beta-alanine for short bursts under 4 min ( i.e. 1 set @ 6-12 reps) and when combined with creatine it’s like a 1-2 combo. Not sure why this is recommended solely for endurance athletes. It’s main function is aiding in “during exertion” recovery by clearing lactic acid from the muscles more efficiently allowing you to do 1 or 2 more reps, or be more intense for slightly longer. So wouldn’t this in itself be beneficial in all modalities?

      Is a life and gains destroyer. Evil incarnate is that shit. Did it nearly every weekend for about 3 years, lost a lot of money, relationships, health and had many days and nights of crippling anxiety and heart scares. Witnessed many friends with potential, waste it all and instead follow it down its path of destruction. Go to the pub where im from nowadays and everyones on it, youths on it on the road from ages 15/16, its ruining so many lives yet at the same time become more and more socially acceptable and has a puffed-up glamourous image in part thanks to often sinister esoteric motives of movie and entertainment moguls and also social media glamorisation and status chasing. We may humour about it in an ironically detached manner from our extremely online perspectives. But in the real world that shit is wreaking havoc right now.

      Alejandro Andretti it's an adaptogenic herb. "Adaptogens" come in many shapes and sizes (ashwaghanda being a more studied form), and they all help lower cortisol spikes/help your body "adapt" to stress.
      They're said to also help your adrenal glands (which makes sense since adrenals are affected by cortisol), which can help many other bodily functions.
      Adaptogens are that group of herbs that are good for promoting longevity and general good health. They're nice for coping with stress, whether it be mental or physical.

      I’m really interested to hear what people with experience using CBD as a pain reliever alternative. What kind of doses and how frequently were you ingesting you’re CBD? Just before your workouts or is it something you can use all the time, and finally, have you had to increase dosages over time to keep the decrease in tendinitis pain?
      I see a lot of people talking about how they use CBD for pain reduction. I’ve tried out CBD supplementing myself and I didn’t feel too much different, [I was taking the 1000mg doses (sometimes up to 3) from CBDmd] although the pain I was feeling was muscle soreness/tightness in my upper traps/neck and lower back from working out , not tendinitis.
      Im just curious about how CBD has helped you with your chronic pain.

    Pro tip: Curcumin isn't as beneficial when isolated from Turmeric. Consume turmeric powder and make sure to do so with a lipid/fat so it's absorbable and consume with pepper to keep it circulating in your blood for more time to provide its anti-inflammatory benefits.

    Anecdotally I have struggled with plantar fascitis for 4 months. I eat fairly healthy foods in general and supplement with fish oil and ginger tablets. Also I have off loaded the foot using special custom inlays and done alle the recommended physiotherapy. One week I decided to make my diet a lot more anti inflammatory - tripling fish oil intake and drinking, eating at least 100g of berries and drinking 3-4 green teas a day with plenty of fresh ginger and turmeric root and lime juice. Results: 3 days in the pain was down 80% and now one week in I am only just able to feel it. Turmeric and fish oil definitely... And ginger I might add

    Hey Jeff, can you do a deep dive into bullet proof coffee? Perhaps in the context of fat loss and where that item fits best (e.g. in a keto, macro focused or just as a general staple)? It'd be great to have an alternative take on this as a general search online will typically yield results biased towards bpc (bullet proof coffee) benefits. Also, it'd be really dope if you had a segment on nootropics in general and/or with a fitness goal focus. Really dig your content looking forward to what's in store man!

    As someone that's trying to lose weight, I'd add 5-HTP to the list. I initially started taking it to help with depression/anxiety/mood, and while it does have some effect there, I find it really good at suppressing my appetite to the point that I'm able to extend my fasting periods to nearly 20 hours AND not overeat after that. As a side effect, it helps me care less about what would bros at the gym think of me, pathetically struggling to bench 1/5th of what they do on a good day. :)

    Do NOT take poor quality fish oil. For those who haven't bothered to actually look deeper into its effects, a poor quality fish oil is extremely pro-inflammatory and will likely contain oxidized lipids (from the high-temperature processing or sitting on shelves for too long) which are horrendous for organ health and causes cellular damage. Save your money and eat actual fish once or twice a week and you will have more than enough omega-3s to be optimally healthy. The requirements for omega-3 fats are incredibly low in healthy adults (.5% of calories roughly... even for those trying to build muscle), and excessive amounts have actually been shown to have detrimental effects when consumed long term. A lot of bodybuilders hear that omega 3 fats are good for you and will megadose on fish oil everyday, but that's not how the body works. More of something is not always better, and in this case, potentially harmful. If you feel you MUST take the fish oil, opt for a high quality cold-pressed version.

    As someone whom workout often and use an holistic approach, instead of coffee of caffeine from preworkout, y’all should consider
    Matcha; fairly cheap if u can find it at Ross, TJ maxx or homesgood.
    Along with OMG Mind (same places mentioned above), consist of various mushroom extract, ashwaganda and cacao for a boost in anti inflammatory, adaptogen and focus.
    Use a frother to blend the mix then top off with some plant based (prefer SO Delicious brand) creamer to mask the taste.
    Some off the counter supp that are good is citrulline, arginine and beta alanine.
    This would cover a lot of your bases. Stay away from overpriced proprietary blend preworkout.
