  • This is Will Thomas from IACF Ltd (International Antiques & Collectors Fairs)
IACF are the largest antiques fair organisers in Britain and in fact in Europe. Will is the Managing Director and I spent a little time with him chatting antiques, fairs, dealers and antiques enthusiasts whilst visiting the very last antiques fair to be held at the Peterborough show ground. Yes, the very final Peterborough Festival of Antiques was on Saturday 8th April 2023…Sadly, the whole area is being re-developed with new houses
I hope you enjoy my chat with Will while you also get a look around the fair

Do you have fabulous antiques to talk about, or for me to to sell for you? I’m always looking for interesting items and people to feature and make films about here on my channel

We have flea markets, fairs, and shows that are set up in a similar fashion. It's fun to see this.

I can't believe they run the Love Antiques site. I've only ever bought one item off there, a portrait miniature of Queen Elizabeth I. I do look on there sometimes though, it's a good site

RIP Peterborough. Even some of us on this side of the Atlantic have heard of the fair. Most dealers I know here are older than I am, and I"m 57. Trading in true antiques seems to be the province of vintage humans.

I nearly went to this, decided to go to an auction instead. Now I learn it was the last one.. that was a bad decision 😕

Shame this is the last Peterborough, it was one of the great fairs that IACF bought a few years back. Hopefully IACF manage to get the other fairs they manage up on there feet rather a slow lingering death I have witnessed over the last 5 years. There is life in fairs but stalling at the £200 a pitch events is a tough way to make a living. On the flip side the other end vintage car boots are thriving.

I’m 21, it was interesting to hear it’s possible to do antiques dealing as a job even when you’re younger. I’ve been trying to start out by buying from auctions and selling on eBay and in Llangollen emporium, but it’s nowhere near enough to do it as a job yet. Hopefully I’ll figure it out eventually! Any tips on finding stock, and the best way to sell? 🙂

I'll chime in, I'm 33 and just starting doing pretty much the same thing, choose you're niche and learn it well, it must be something you have passion for. I've spent a few grand this year on stock but didn't know what I was really doing until last month, I now have stuff that I can only pass on at around cost and some worth 10x cost. The amount of times I've seen something somewhere then found out its value, and gone back to find it sold..!! Once you have an idea of things and something really peaks your interest, have a quick Google, question the price, and proceed 👌

Love what you buy, then it’s easy to learn…buy only things that inspire you. you’ll then pass on the passion, which makes it easy to sell. have fun !

@@interloperdrones1172thank you! Are you doing it full time or as a side job? :) would you say you had to save up for a while to buy stock?
