    A debut album should never be rushed just to capitalize off of the momentum of a current single. It's always best to take your time and to deliver a SOLID body of work. I hate how Mathew dropped the ball on Kelly time and time again. As fate would have it, delaying the release of Beyoncé's album ultimately worked out in her favor cause she had more time to prepare. Timing is everything and releasing Crazy In Love as a summer single was the best decision they could've made for the launch of her solo career.

    • @jathanblake
      @jathanblake 2 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      Exactly. A rushed debut album in hopes to hop on a momentum of a Collab single when there was no direction was a terrible mistake. Beyonce was able to learn from those mistake, tests things out to see what's not working and then put her debut album out. 🙆🏾‍♂️

      Crazy In Love was the summer of 2003. Reminds me of that summer. Not sure it would have worked as a winter release. So Beyonce waiting a bit worked for her in the long run. Kelly has had a lot of commercial success here in the UK over the years. Lots of top ten singles and high charting collaborations.

    • @MsTrueTy
      @MsTrueTy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +69

      I believe Matthew sacrificed Kelly's momentum to save Beyonce from flopping. The rushing the album thing was sabatoge as fuck. Cause if he wanted to keep momentum, he could of took a page out of Irv and Ashanti's book and gave her more feats and let her finish her album in peace. But beyonce "Work it out" failed to chart. And Matthew knew it failed for two reasons, one time (2002 billboard had hits!) And 2 (work it out and the sound of her album was too dated for the 00s sound. It needed more) Beyonce had her original album ready to go but if "Work it out" tanked, then the album that most likely had a similar vibe would probably not do as well as intended. So releasing bey's original album was not happening, so he and Columbia had Beyonce original album wiped and made her start over. And that decision to push back Bey did exactly what he originally wanted to avoid. It put beyonce album in direct competition with Kelly's album in theory of time. Now I'm not mad he made bey start over. That was smart your lead single tanked which usually meant the album would too. So she needed a new album and a new lead single. What I am mad about is the push back gave ample time to feed into Kelly. If he continued feeding the Kelly fire by the time she released she would of soared. And I am sure Beyonce album still would of done well. But this is truly where the Beyonce favoritism rears its ugly head. He didn't want 3 stars he wanted 1. Beyonce, and it's sad because all three of them could of took over in three different lanes. Bey in pop, Michelle in gospel and Kelly in R&b. But that was never the plan. He only wanted some success for them and Beyonce to be the mega star. So he could feed off her for the rest of his life. And more proof of that is the destiny fullfilled era. All three of them had Killed their solo ventures. Kelly was international, Michelle was a gospel star and and Broadway smash! And of course Beyonce was on her MJ type high. And STILL during interviews and promotion they only focused on Beyonce (and you could see she was annoyed by this ,So people on the hate Beyonce train need to get off.) Cause Matthew is their manager and he could of easily made sure interviewers also focused on the other ladies success stories. But instead their success was purposely glazed over to not take shine off of Beyonce. The only reason why Beyonce eclipsed them is simply because matthew allowed it and encouraged it. He no longer needed DC so he slowly choked out their careers ;Solange included. It was Matthew doing the sabtoging not Beyonce. Even Solange said herself as a kid all he focused on was Beyonce. And that's why he ain't none of they managers today; including bey. She realized he was leeching off her like Curtis did Deena in Dreamgirls. And Berry did Diana Ross. Almost errily similar

    Beyoncé is my all time fave. Unmatched by no other in my heart. That said, KELLY ROWLAND is a Solo Superstar. Ppl overlook this something becuz they are expecting them to match each other in every area. Kelly has 7 Uk top ten singles. With 2 Blockbuster #1 hit singles. She won 2 Solo Grammys and Billboard Awards etc for Best R&B Song and won Song Of The Year at the Soul Train Music Awards. She's sold over 40 Million Records worldwide solo. Add Destiny's Child sales as a career total and she's way over 100 Million. She's a legend who as survived where many thought she would not. She has a Billboard Hot 100 #1 song and Billboard R&B/Hip Hop #1. Many Dance #1s. Her debut album is Platinum in the UK and based on it selling over 600,000 in it's year of release in the us, it should be eligible for Platinum in the States by now of the High streaming numbers on Dilemma alone. In the first 13 months of that album being out it sold 2.4 million. She has 2 worldwide #1 hits. Those are very hard to come by. An artist can go #1 in the us or even the UK but doesn't go #1 on the overall world chart. She may not do Beyoncé numbers or have Beyoncé's place in Music history, but that's ok. She'll always be remembered as the defiant, good spirited and ambitious Legendary Kelly Rowland. Few ppl in life ever reach her level of accomplishment

    There’s a whole bunch of factors. I think Matthew had a decent idea when he chose a lane/image for each member. Beyoncé was the r&b diva, Kelly was the indie chick and Michelle was the gospel girl. But like everyone says he botched up Kelly’s debut, they should have followed up Dilemma with something more straight r&b and THEN start mixing rock and pop with r&b for future tracks, easing listeners into the alternative sound.

    • @toastdude1587
      @toastdude1587 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    • @TheoriginalPR1
      @TheoriginalPR1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Kelly also could have used the extra time to explore other collaborators. Timbaland (Aaliyah's producer) and Dallas Austin (TLC's producer) knew how to make "edgy r&b", blending different genres together seamlessly.

    • @hatchibyebye
      @hatchibyebye 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      But why was indie chick the correct lane for Kelly? Obviously it wasn’t because Dilemma was her biggest hit. Michael sabotaged her and delegated to her to the indie box regardless of whether or not it was in her best interest because he wanted Beyoncé to have the monopoly on urban.

    • @TheoriginalPR1
      @TheoriginalPR1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@hatchibyebye Because right after she did straight r&b album (Ms. Kelly) she went right back to dabbling in worldly pop music, her iconic collabs with David Guetta for example, clearly she had an interest and talent for it. I honestly think the obsession with making it in America (she's a huge star in Europe which is remarkable but of course people barely talk about that) and American society putting limitations and stereotypes on black artists music (especially dark-skinned black female artists, I mean its not that much different from the type of music Janet and Rihanna make) are also factors in Kelly's career.

    • @hatchibyebye
      @hatchibyebye 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@TheoriginalPR1 I don’t believe for a second that EDM is a passion for her. EDM was simply a safe and inexpensive option for artists in the late 00s/early 10s to sell digital records. You did not need a big fan base, u didn’t need a brand or charisma, European radio would still spam you if the song is catchy. This was a business decision. That’s the very opposite of what happened with Stole, where she ran away from the bag. I hear what you’re saying about the limitations and stereotypes on darkskinned women but in practice and in reality, only light skinned and white women are rewarded for making urban music in this day and age. Darkskinned women like Kelly are forced to make the most generic inoffensive radio fodder to get any mainstream play. But see, that wasn’t always the case, her debut could have been RnB and saw major success like Ashanti, who was easily the biggest female artist in 2002. But that was the successful path Matthew already designated for his daughter…

    Kelly rowland is already a star. Kelly rowland has scored more success as a solo star than any other none primary lead single... she is an international star.

    Kelly had great success, you just just think not because you’re comparing her to Beyoncé. Beyoncé is Beyoncé she is amazing at what she does. Kelly is amazing in her own right and actually has better songs than Beyoncé. She’s sold 40 million records worldwide as a solo artist! Give the girl her flowers!

      Kelly songs are terrible and she didn’t sell no damn 40 million records Kelly haven’t even replicated Destiny child sales how she sell 40 million records with no platinum album 🥴 Beyoncé sold 200 million records 😌

      @@nishafrinchell4060 lol you’re the biggest hater I’ve ever met, “records” include single and album sales, have you not listened to down for whatever? Work? Forever and a day? What a feeling? Crazy? Can’t nobody? Representin? See me? You are so so silly to think Kelly doesn’t have hits on hits on hits

      @@nishafrinchell4060records also mean singles. She has several platinum world wide singles. And her first album is multi platinum world wide. Dilemma alone was multi platinum world wide. Count it up boo. She’s done a little over 40 now and would be even more if she bothered to update her sales like other artist have done

    "When love takes over" is a SMASH HIT CLASSIC in europe,and.she had others like "what a feeling" and "commander" "done for whatever"
    she was the new donna summer and worked so well with dance music.
    she should've stuck with that and then SLOWLY go back to r&b but she got lazy

    Kelly Rowland is close with Normani. They both came from groups where they were not the star. I bet Kelly had a talk with Normani and this why Normani isn’t rushing her debut album. 🤔

    • @kodyonyiuke6070
      @kodyonyiuke6070 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I can definitely believe that among other reasons too. I'm sure Kelly gave Normani a huge amount of advice as well as other major artists have that love Normani and want her to succeed. It's often those that came before us that act as our guardian angels in many instances, so we don't make the same mistakes they did.
