Xu Xin was on fire. Timo made to many easy mistakes. My two favourite players, plus Ma Long.
In my opinion. This commentator is the best one before Adam Bobrow. I like his volume of his voice. I hope ITTF will once again let this guy to be part of Table Tennis

Boll doesn't have a reverse back hand. What he has is a hand switch. Unfortunately, it's not often that he has the opportunity to use that.

Timo is overall stronger today than 7-8 years ago. XX is not likely to win Timo with such dominance today. But if they play against each other I bet it would still be a highly entertaining game, with XX having 65% chance of winning

The Chinese transliteration e,g. Bo, Po, Mo, Fo was invented by Chinese and can not be pronounced by native English speakers who have no knowledge of it whatsoever. So whenever a native English speaker sees X and Zh in Chinese names, he or she naturally falls back to English pronunciation where X is pronounced Z like Xerox and Zh is also pronounced z like Zambia. The pronunciation of X in Chinese transliteration is more like SHE but not 100% correct as there is no such a pronunciation in the English language. The same also applies to Zh which has no equivalent in English pronunciation. People who is eager to criticize others as racist is simply ignorant about languages.

@@shanelawson5072 Just got lucky with the new ranking system and the disruption caused by the new ball.He didn't win anything of importance as usual...In his whole career his greatest achievement in singles was the bronze medal in 2011 WTTC.A very likeable guy but rather hyped.

Probably it was a factor.. but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad system.
Women's tennis has a ranking system where quite a few women who had never won Major titles could be ranked #1.

This is difference between Chinease TT quality and Germany. Unbeliavable power and precision at the same time from XX. If the match was to be continued for another 10 sets, I bet XX would have won all the sets.

This was back in 2011. You could tell Xu Xin is gonna be No. 1 then. A penholder doesn't rely much on tricky serves hence third ball attack. Purely on basic techniques like returning serves, looping, pushing and hitting. He's gonna be at the top for a loooong time now.

On the contrary, most penholders rely on their third ball attack. Not doing so would be defying the penhold grip’s advantage of having a lot of wrist freedom which enables the user to have better serves. Famous examples are ryu seung min, ma lin and xu xin.

Boll used to be so passive, also so many invites to the forehand.
completely wrong tactic used here. last year he was extremely passive against Lee Sangsu but ended up winning due to Lee making way too many unforced errors. but against Fan Zhendong, that may have been the most agressive performance in his career, he almost pulled off a win.

This is embarrassing for Boll, and it just makes me respect Samsonov the more. Vladi's style has more longevity. Or rather he seems better at getting around his lack of power. I can't imagine Timo being competitive against the top Chinese at 38-39. Shame, because he's still capable of some brilliant shots. Just not enough.
+Robert Rowles Chill man. Boll is still very good. Nothing embarrassing or shameful. Samsonov's style is certainly more enduring, but it never had the kind of threat to top Chinese players as Boll once did in his prime.
