Not sure if you’ll respond but I’m plunging into a rabbit hole here. I picked up the same unit for my Mustang and I’m confused if this needs to be installed on the top of the tank or if it doesn’t mayger

Careful with how tight you squeeze the pump with those hose clamps. It can lead to premature failure due to deforming the pump body.
Looking forward to seeing how you solve mounting the tank now that you've removed the two clamping pads from the top.
