I am a self taught mechanic of over 30 years in the field. Helping people save money and stay safe on the road is what I am here for. If I can pass that along in my videos, that would make me feel even more accomplished. I am rather old school and do not really do things by the book, for this reason, I do not claim to make "Instructional" videos. My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Please use safety and knowledge when doing your own repairs. ~ Ben - MegaMiles

This is the most peaceful replacement video I’ve ever seen. So relaxing & refreshing.
@thurm101 thank you! Thanks for watching!
Very details bro thx 👍
Thank you for watching!
You don't need to take that coil rail off to remove the alternator. I can't imagine how you got that plug disconnected from the fan so easily! On my 2009 Accord V6, the plug was o the bottom of the fan and there was also a wire hold-down that had to be broken off before the fan could be removed. All this had to be done from the bottom. It made a simple job a nightmare.
@@robertfrapples2472 Sorry to hear that!
How did you get the alternator in so easy I'm having a hard time getting the new one back in the housing
Did you compare them to make sure theyre the same? It should slip right out and in.
Check the lower mount bolt holes on the car. One side might have a sliding locker that might need to be pushed back a little for clearance.
If thats the case, you can use this same concept on the car to reset the locker...

Thanks guys after I stepped away for a bit and tried again it went right in don't know what I did wrong now its in I appreciate all the answers
@vincepyle995 Sometimes a break is the best thing ;)
There is a sleeve in the side of the yoke that will slide to the outside, generating nearly 1/8" more clearance. Also, you can press the sleeve in the alternator mount with a vise to make it nearly 1/8" smaller. I went from "WAY too wide" to "fell in and rattled."
Hey do you know what amperage the stock alternator is?
Sorry, no.
Help! Replaced my battery, but now the light for the battery is on my dash! When I charge my new battery it turns on for about 10 min. Is that the alternator ? Same car as yours! Would you do the repair yourself as a rookie to repairs or take it to the dealer ??
This isnt my car, its a clients car. I would have the alternator and battery tested at any parts store. Just cause the battery is new, doesnt always mean its good.
My TENSION BOLT is broken off!😡😡 ANY ADVISE on how i can STILL get that tensioner to PUSH UP enough to release belt??? ANY ADVICE IS MUCH APPRECIATED. THANKS Chris
I dont remember if that one has another on the underside or not. Some of those tensioner do. Besides that, other than trying to use a pry bar somehow, pulling one of the pulleys or replacing the tensioner, Im really not sure.
Either way, youd probably need to replace the tensioner to get it back on so Id just cut it off and replace the tensioner assembly.
@@MegaMilesBen Thanks for the info. Ok ill take a look and see about the other side having it as well. Yeah, not to thrilled about replacing belt and tension pulls as well 😤 ill definitely see if I can use a pry bar with DAMAGING anything else. Thanks again Chris
@@chriscastellanos3985what did you end up doing? I have the same problem with my tensioner bolt. It stripped :/
@@fusionyxbtc3671 Good morning. I end up buying a NEW TENSIONER on Amazon. They are pretty much the same as if you were to pay FULL PRICE at like an Auto Zone or O'Reillys. Best price i paid was 39.00$ ONLINE. I actually ended up finding someone to install BOTH, TENSIONER and ALTERNATOR for 125$. I just decided it's bestbi let the mechanic install. But again, I purchased NEW TENSIONER. Hope this helps.
Wat was the cause of the OEM Alternator failure?
As far as I know, just age and mileage.
@@MegaMilesBen on our 13 RDX also with 3.5 V6 engine with 95K miles, alternator went out and culprit was likely the VVT Solenoid gaskets that wore out and oil was leaking on top of the alternator. The alternator had a lot of oil residue on it. I purchased OEM ramanned alternator, and also replaced the VVT gaskets with Mahle gasket kit from Oreilleys since Honda doesn’t sell them alone without having to purchase whole VVT Solenod from them. I would check to make sure yours isn’t leaking too.
@4Runner21 this is a clients car and if a leak was present I wouldve made them aware and more than likely wouldve fixed it at same time. Thanks for the tip.
@4Runner21 this was done almost a year ago. I had to rewatch it to remember. It was a faulty alternator and needed to be returned for waranty. If you had watched it, you can see in the video, the alternator is dry and I explain why Im changing it. Have a great day.
