- How teapots are made on a throwing wheel. Pottery made from Stoneware clay - get a teapot on ETSY: www.etsy.com/shop/ThePotterPo...
Ronald Pothier is a potter from Quebec. Watch as he transforms a hunk of clay into a finished teapot.
Ronald Pothier is a potter having started all the way back in 1973 at only the age 13! Today, he works out of his studio in Quebec where he produces beautiful ceramic pieces of art. Bowls, plates, cups, vases, teapots and more, they are strong and practical for everyday use in your kitchen.
Watch as Ronald throws two different teapot designs with such confidence and ease. He makes it look easy but throwing clay on a wheel is quite the workout while also requiring a fine level of finesse. Later on, Ronald explains how he fires, decorates and glazes his pottery and then we see the final result of all the hard work. It's a multistage process that takes several weeks to complete and decades of experience to perfect.
Ronald is a fantastic teacher and holds classes on Saturdays. Whether you're a beginner or experienced in throwing, you are welcome to sign up. Visit Ronald's website for more information.

"and want this to be in the.... *SLAM!* mmmmiddle" I loved that moment
Ya, I was starting to fall asleep until he whipped out the blowtorch. That scared the crap out of me
He’s kinda like the Bob Ross of pottery.
He reminds me of Bob Ross, but for pottery. Awesome!
This gives me a title idea

The end credit says "All music performed by Simon Pothier" whom I assume is his father. How sweet!
Sarah Kim yes, Simon was our dear musical father. We lost him last May. We miss him more than words can say 💔
@@louern123 So sorry for your loss. You have blessed us all with his music in this video. I noticed it immediately and enjoyed every note ♥️♥️♥️
@@WhatsNewTodayCreator You are very kind. Thank you.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m sure he was an amazing man, and his legacy continues through his beautiful music. I hope you are all doing well, and staying safe in such a scary time. Stay strong! May Mr. Simon Pothier Rest In Peace.
this guy is like the bob ross of pottery. smooth voice, talented and the completely random conversations
He DID pop up after a video of Bob Ross after all...
@@Burago2k me too
Whet on whet.
i almost commented this
I WAS GONNA COMMENT DAT LMAOO
Nearly crapped my pants when he took out the blowtorch. I was so calm listening to his fantastic story and BBBRRSSH. This is the second best thing since Bob Ross
What's the first?
"Scorch the devil outta it"
@Wolfy Junior they are not artists tho
He did that as I was reading this comment lol
Well that spoiled that for me
Most satisfying thing about this video is that it’s exactly 30 minutes long
Also everything in the video:his voice, the music, the pottery changing shapes, and the blow torch!
Thanks for noticing ;)
Stereokroma is the best unknown

You can always spot professionals. They make things look so easy you feel like you can do it... until you try to and make a mess
exactly
It will not be a mess, it will become a happy accident ;)
idk about pottery, but I've done some loved works under Bob Ross
Hahahaha! :)
boltimuss you are telling thats hard?
I've never been to a therapy session before. This video could be the first. My soul is as soft as a marshmallow now.
I said to myself "Why the hell am I watching this"
Yesss
Or as soft as the clay he threw ;)
Like actually, though.
Honestly just any art activity tends to be therapeutic for me cuz it's all about the quiet intuition of the hands
"In pottery, there's many, many stages and no stage is more important than another."
I actually started tearing up at some point.
that's your inner artist!
This is easy to watch and learn from!
the best part is when you SMACK down the clay, like smacking the devil out of it haha
ohhh snap 😂

bruh i just came here from a mr rogers video lmao it was the first suggestion

He has the soothingness of bob ross
listening to you reminiscing about your family of artists makes me hope I'll help raise kids that talk about me when their older with the same fondness. made me feel something..
I had a little moment there while the music started and the pot body was being thrown. Came *this* close to shedding a tear... idk why it must have just been such a beautiful moment. Much love and light be with you friend 💚
I'm a year behind the rest of the comments (chuckle). I look for videos like this to help destress, but I have bookmarked your etsy shop, as sometimes I look for gifts for family members. Very nice work.
Gary The Gray I feel you man
:3
I can sit and watch this guy do his thing and talk for hours. Would love to stop by if I'm ever around that area.
Who else want here to take of the excess clay on his hands
SERIOUS GUILE bad idea. It adds a lot of lubrications to the clay and allows it to dry more easily later on
@@Owen_Morgan True, but with my experience on pottery it all depends on how you prefer to throw. At my apprenticeship, my mentor always finds it funny how much wet clay (slip) I have on my hands when I throw. She throws with her hands mainly wet with just water and would wet town the clay rather than her hands more often. It also depends on what works best for how you throw. I have a bad habit of building up a lot of slip on my hands and letting it dry on the backs of it, which sometimes chips onto the piece I'm working on.
Guile Arvee Castro I don’t think they understand.
@@Khangel yeah thats like half a year ago
this was a year ago jeez
everything about this video is satisfying.
including the fact that this video is exactly 30 minutes long
btw, the fact that music was left out of the video is much appreciated

If listening to this video made my anxiety calm down, imagine taking one week course with him, not only gain knowledge on pottery but gain all the peace you can contain in your body.
I was recovering from an anxiety attack by doing some drawing, and i put this on in the background. Hes such an amazing man. Its very relaxing to listen to him, and the way he talks almost makes it seem like hes right there as your friend.
Ninjanova Ahhhhhh like the feeling of climbing into a hot bath with lots of bubbles & herbs when you are so sore you can hardly move. You can literally feel the tension and soreness float away. He is gifted in more than one way and those gifts overlap.😊👍❣️❣️❣️
The amount of tears I shed in this video is huge this is basically free therapy it’s so calming and stress relieving
I’m glad u made the lid...
“Coz everyone needs a friend”

i love how his surname is Pothier and he's a potter. It's quite likely his family were potters by trade a long time ago.
vinyl hedgehog - I was thinking his last name is pretty convenient.
My last name is Crocker. Guess my ancestors made crocks. 😐
Went to school with a girl called Couturier ... guess what she became.
dethofariel Um what? A lot of people a long time ago had last names that matched their professions. It made people easier to identify. The last name Smith comes from being a blacksmith. It was literally what they did centuries ago.
Can he possibly be related to the boy who lived?
Harry Potter
Pottery making is an intricate craft that requires patience and precision. From shaping the clay to firing the final product, every step is a testament to the artisan's skill and dedication. It's fascinating to see how traditional techniques are preserved and passed down through generations, blending seamlessly with modern innovations
Him: round shapes are very strong.

Bob Ross shit right here. I am drunk and this's just a blessing RN
we love undertale
I'm tipsy too. Cheers.
🥂
I'm impaired
Watching him throw above his waist really interests me. I’ve always thrown hunched over and it really hurts my neck and back. I’m working with porcelain so it’s not too tough, maybe I’ll rig something up so the plate will sit above my waist. Beautiful video!
I also thought this was so interesting! I always throw hunched over. People don’t understand me when I say my back is in pain. I should try to throw above my waist... might be easier on my health!
Man why is pottery so freaking cool tho srsly
And also sooo satisfied
When he was scrapin the clay. OMG I'm in luv
this video was wonderful it made me smile and today has been a sad day thank you
♥‿♥
I took a ceramics class in High School, I didn't do very well and I ditched a lot of days when I had it, there was nothing that I made that I truly liked until I made my teapot for my final during the second semester. While it was a bit of a rush and the body was not as smooth as I wanted it to be I was proud that I made it, I thought everything else looked pretty nice and I glazed it a pretty sky blue color and did the lid top in green. Though I can't use it for tea (I made it non-utilitarian because when it was fired the lid got stuck on top, and I didn't want to risk messing it up) I still have it in a glass display case that we have some picture frames in in our house. This teapot was one of the most creative things I have done.
I come back to this video often. It’s one of my favorite videos. So calming.
Thankyou
The spinning makes every groove go evenly the whole way around... how it just gets creamy because of friction and moisture of the hands is mesmerizing, so is the entire process. *10/10.*
You’re like the clay version of Bob Ross
Burning Callouses LORE OLYMPUS

Sounds like a wonderful heritage. I agree with you that art can take many forms with many different materials and giftings or talents.
u know i feel like he would be so nice to talk to like he is so calming in such a cool way
I love how there's no loud music during the video. Thanks!
*This is the best pottery video i have ever seen this guy was so interesting i dont give a like on videos much but this is in my like playlist now i gave a subb too.*
Thanks! :)
I'm so conflicted. The ceramics is so beautiful and it's so soothing to watch build and the dude has such a Bob Ross voice but I cannot get over the sheer amount of GUNK on his hands whenever he messes with the clay. It looks like a freaking mud pimple
I don’t have words to describe the joy in seeing your happiness in what you do!
Great enjoy!!
Greetings from India !
This was wonderful - and I was touched to see that your father performed the piano we heard, thank you so much (to both of you!) for sharing your process and your art.
I think that the overall content quality here is too great for the common TH-cam platform lol.
Watching and listening him is very therapeutic, it’s like listening to your grandmother talk while she cooks. Great video!
Love it when a potter explains and chat, while making consistent pots. Not so much the ease, but the confidence is beautiful to watch. I hope to see more of your work on YT.
I just wanted to say thank you for the closed captions. I'm hard of hearing and these are so so important to me.
:)
I just found out.... that this helps me with my stress during homework... this is great, thank you so much
Really thank you
Umm I came here thinking I was gonna watch 10 minutes of it ....... 30 minutes later I realize it’s over🤷♂️
Just magical, thank you, after a painful hard day this is wonderful to see
Keep your mary-juano, kids. this is the kind of pot that gets me high
Seymour Butts 😂😂😂👏👏👏👏
Good teapots are priceless! My Mom got one or found one with her mom when I was younger that was of a really nice grayisch blue, the pattern reminds me of clouds kinda. I think it was made with machines since it doesnt have any signatures at all. Put its my all time favorite teapot. Its very balanced and keeps the tea real warm and also packs around 1,7 L or 1,8 L and yeah. The day itll break of old days ill be crying because ill know i dont want any other pot.
You should totally get a twitch channel and stream in the creative section. Could really interact with fans there live.
I watch this video every morning. I am a potter, and his technique is so well identified, and his voice is so relaxing, and the classical music is so beautiful… It takes me back to my childhood, watching Mr. Rogers. His voice reminds me of Mr. Rogers, and it’s so soothing and he explains everything step-by-step. I would love to see more videos from him.
Thankyou Jenn.
I am just so shocked and amazed. How pleasant it was to see how he made the pottery with his calm voice.
And the stunning outcome of the pottery... I am amazed.
It’s amazing that he can throw this whole teapot without water but with slip. I literally drown my pieces in water just so it can be thrown. That’s some awesome skill that he has
SAME. I use way too much water and need to learn how to use less :/

That was awesome. Artistry, craftsmanship, and soothing voice like Bob Ross. But with History, Science, and Art lessons taught in the style of Mr. Rogers.
I didn't even realize that this video was 30 minutes long, I was just so mesmerized. So soothing, and such beautiful work.
I'm confused whether I'm mesmerized with just another pottery video or the way the old man talks. Once a teacher always a teacher i guess. Thanks TH-cam for recommending this video.
what a lovely video. other ceramics videos ive been watching have a tendency to be grainy, poorly shot, and impersonal, but not so here. this fellow is a skilled craftsman, and it was a pleasure to watch him at his work.

18:18 there’s a lil doggo in the background that comes forward to the mid left of the video :)

Also, to actually comment on the video, this dude is seriously an artisan. He reminds me of a more chill version of my art teacher from freshman year. Both are passionate about art. Cool dudes.
he went to the dog dimension
