  • Climbing ropes ratings can be confusing. Here is a quick video explaining the options, and specific examples of tag lines that I love. 100's of instructional videos like this at www.mtnsense.com

    @6:09 An important note is that the Edelrid rap line is rated for 2 UIAA falls for the twin rope test, meaning it must be folded in half and climbed in twin rope configuration, NOT rated for any single-strand falls. Also because it has non-elastic aramid fibers in the sheath, if you did take a proper lead fall onto that cord in twin mode I'd probably retire it after that since the elastic and hyperstatic materials would have a fight and something might break when it stretches that much.

    I have a question Mark, when you ice climb do you use the same rope or a special one and I’ll do that class you have

    Great video, Mark. This was very clear and concise. What's your go-to method of joining your Aero 9.2 with your 6.0 pull cords?

      My preference is a flat overhand bend (EDK). Petzl recommends doubling that knot...two EDK's back to back to eliminate the chance of the knot rolling under heavy load. With a properly dressed and stressed knot, rolling is not likely with low rappelling forces. 30cm / 1 foot tails.

    Great video! What rappel device do you use for the 5.4 mm sterling rope when ski mountaineering?

      Standard petzl reverso but I rig it special. Both strands in the same hole

    Hey Mark, Curious if you had a weight for the Sterling V-tx cord? can't seem to find the weight online.

      Found it in a howNOT2 video, the sterling v-tx is little under 20g/m

    Mark do you think the RIT-900 is still worthwhile buying for a 30-45m contingency rope for the bottom of
    The bag?
    Or VT-X is still a better option? RIT-900 seems very easy to rappel and haul with. Good compatibility with toothed devices.

      its fine, but I think the petzl PUR is better. RIT900 really collects a lot of snow, but its also higher friction for rappels. User preference.

    Have you tried the sterling cord v-tx with a tibloc or micro Traxion? Seems like the diameter doesn’t meet the specs?

    • @msmiley7546
      @msmiley7546 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have with the micro traxion for hauling backpacks on a multipitch climb. It was fine for that. Tibloc seems sketchy even with the largest locking carabiner.
