Opponent at 10, sum damage on board 14, 6 blockable; 8 through. Swift End from the Rider on any target takes that down to 4 blockable; 10 through. I believe you are correct, fine sir!
One of situations where I’m screaming at my phone “ALPHA STRIKE!” But CGB works hard and we all make mistakes. Love the deck and great job, CGB. No apology needed.

That last win was extremely satisfying to watch not going to lie.
The original deck was "The Rock and his Millions" and it was before Spiritmonger even came out. The Rock was Deranged Hermit, and his Millions came from the squirrel tokens. Phyrexian Plaguelord was the engine which wrathed the opponents board so the rest of the team can swing in. Once Spiritmonger was printed, the deck didn't even play Hermit anymore, but the name stuck.

It's "Apex Predators" because it's referring to the entire species, not just a single individual. Wolves are great, but there needs to be many of them. Indeed, the fact that there's more than one is WHY wolves are so good at predation. Lone wolves, despite the idiom, don't tend to last long without a pack.
Also, wolves aren't cannibalistic, so they don't present a lateral or higher link in he chain. You could even have two or more apex species in a single ecosystem, if they either do not or cannot predate on each other.

By the way, there's a cool little something: when Garruk gets brough back by "Elpesth Defeats Death" it enters directily with a +1, casting the emblem shall you want to the same turn. Trying a little Abzan wolves with Tolsimir and Garruk and it's quite good to bring back Garruk and embleming right away.

19:20 I was trying for the life of me to figure out how those Gate Breaker Rams died to a Gatesablaze since they are usually +2 on that damage and then I looked at his Nissa elementals and it was two gates! LUL that might not have been according to plan. XD
Care to elaborate? I still don't understand. Ablaze deals "x" damage, but the Ram is always "x+2". If the land is not a gate for Ram, it shouldn't be for Gates.
@@savieira The fires killed the creature gates, costing the ram an additional 2 toughness.
@@savieira The power is x+2, so in this case the power was around 11. The gates ablaze did 9 damage to everything, including the two elementals made by Nissa, the two elementals were also Gates. so when the gates died the stats of the rams was reduced by another 2 making their toughness exactly 9 which was the damage they took from the gates ablaze.

At 17:49 didn't you have lethal? You had seven two power creatures with three blockers on the other side. You had one removal spell to bring their blockers to two. That leaves 10 damage to the face.
Yeah was about to say the same thing. Just rider the ram and swing all face for exactly 10.
@@shayd8367 I'm not a huge gates fan so I was sad that he didn't see it. Based on his narration he was in a defensive mindset and was seeing how he could survive the board next turn. Would an app that actively calculated damage to face be considered cheating?

That gates deck was frustrating to watch. Nissa is so incredibly strong that there's no reason to not put 4 of her in any deck that even sort of contains green and it's annoying. Why does her +1 create 1, sometimes 2 mana and a 3/3 with vigilance and haste? That's insane.
@@yGKeKe If she's staying on the board long enough to get her emblem out you've probably already lost.
Is the same reason why Oko got banned. Noxious mentioned it on a video too, about the planeswalker's +1 being a defensive skill breaking the game. A planeswalker shouldn't defend itself but at least if it does, you should spend counters not adding them.
imo. Nissa will be much much better if her +1 land only remains a creature "until end of turn," or maybe "until beginning of your next upkeep."
I love the idea of the mystic repeal strat combo'd with treacherous blessing! Cat oven food is ignoring huge tribal potential. Goose wolves into vraska garruk is amazing. Lately I've been running Savvy hunter and the artifact spear for 1 mana 2 equip for solid mid game beat down and additional card draw.
Right now playing at mid plat trying to move up.
Finally! I always wanted a deck that utilizes Garruk, Cursed Huntsman (of which I have 4 copies). Thanks alot CBG.

This is pretty similar to the deck that I played throughout Eldraine (I started Arena shortly after it was released). I had a bit more ramp with Deathsprouts and Gilded Geese, 1 Liliana, 1 Rankle, and a bit of sweeper protection with 2 Moldervine Reclamations. No Massacre Girls or Vraskas (or Theros cards of course), since I didn't have any.
I love Garruck, I use him in ranked with cat/oven/midnight rider/moldervine reclamation. Not top teir but fun
Garruk is saying that he and the wolves collectively are the apex predators. You wouldn't call an entire group a singular.

It was actually 2 standard blocks earlier. The rock was phyrexian plaguelord and deranged hermit based. The art for stronghold taskmaster looked like the rock.
This deck looks like a lot of fun. I can't get enough of Garruk making Wolves and ultimating. YYYEESSSSS

I would like to see an updated Abzan wolf deck or a Golgari Superfriends deck. I think Garruk works well in those types of decks

I really enjoyed this video. I’m a huge fan of Golgari decks and Dwayne “the rock”Johnson (for very different reasons). I struggled to make it work as a best of three, but have found success after adding stonecoil serpent and focusing on best of one (currently in platinum 3) Also, massacre girl is the ultimate wwe superstar of a magic card.
Well, I’ve got the riders, two Vraskas, two garruks, and some sweet Golgari cards. Been looking to get a standard deck for a while, might just have found my inspiration.

I believe Sol Malka pioneered the archetype with Phyrexian Plaguelord (The Rock) and Deranged Hermit.
I went to mythic with a quite similar deck and there is no satisfaction like sacrificing the wolves with rankle for getting the emblem^^

I thought the deck got its name from THE ROCK as in the Prison Alcatraz. The deck works like a prison: hand discard, creature control, etc

Ever since Garruk was revealed I've been wanting a deck that utilizes him properly. This isn't the first deck you've played with him in it, but I think it might be the most satisfying one.
You should of totally put the NWO Wolfpack music into the intro and some Scott Hall stuff 🤷 it would of been legit hype

It's a shame that Garruk didn't splash any waters in standard, specially since he is such a beloved character and had been missing for so long. Maybe if it was 5 mana instead it would be different (maybe the ultimate could cost a little more to compensate)
yo you probably wont read this but if you do please reply... i would like to ask for you to make a ashiok skulptor of fears deck. i have the premade and the deck is just so slow that i have literally gone 0-20 without ever getting it on the field. would help me alot to see what you would do and how you would play it. i usually get steam rolled so fast by red or just lifegain decks prevent me from doing enough.
since you are doing 6mana cost mythics i would find this enjoyable.

I know jank week is over, but it would be really cool to see a God VS God deck. One player has 5 color all War of the spark gods and the other uses 5 color theros gods. Would be cool too see which is more powerful

Has anyone posted a video of Repeated Reverberation/Revenge build?
I've constructed what I consider to be the fastest ramp to the combo, theoretically playing it by turn 4, but it's a lofty dream.
HOWEVER, it's just so much fun to baste in the silent, lingering awe of a befuddled victim as a 31-14 becomes a 256-1...Ahhh.... The Glory....
I hate to be the nitpicker, but... "The Rock" is Deranged Hermit. in the original "The Rock" deck, the ending "combo" (more a synergy) was Deranged Hermit ("The Rock") creating squirrel tokens ("and is minions") that Phyrexian Plaguelord (The Undertaker, for another wrestling shout) will sac to kill opponent creatures, clear the board, and win with plaguelord bashing.
I like the cosmetics on the lands -- except for the forest, it just looks like a big piece of broccoli.
How would a historic rock deck look like?
Speaking of smells, it always looked to me like Garruk is smelling something unpleasant.
