Joe getting under his skin by just calling him kid is absolutely genius, doesn't need more than that
Yeah and Samoa Joe got under his skin by calling him a little bitch.
But the way MJF decided to take a second to think about it then attempt to leave it alone shows just how much he has evolved. Earlier MJF would have hit him with the Dynamite Diamond Ring still on his finger. Seeing him realize that and take it off, that's growth. Shows that Max doesn't need to stoop to Joe's level, as Joe wants him to.
And He's clearly under his skin from 4 years ago.

Haven’t marked out for a feud in a looong time. This promo by these two guys got me. It’s weird that I’m gonna be rooting for Joe to smash through the tournament now just so I can see him vs MJF. Brilliant.
Actually I want to see Joe take it all and they start booking MJF as the new underdog babyface while Joe as the monster champion like Brock. This is the perfect time and excuse for MJF to turn face.

Personally, I cannot wait for the moment he turns his back on everyone and goes back to being a straight up heel again. I was at this event. The first 2 hours were live (AEW Dynamite), and the 3rd hour (AEW Rampage) was recorded, and it aired on Friday night. On the last match of the Wednesday night show (Rampage) Samoa Joe defeated Jeff Hardy and it aired on Rampage on Friday night. In between shows there was about a 10 minute break when the ring crew changed all of the TBS logos on the ring to the TNT logos.
It was so weird, Chris Jericho came out during the Rampage part of the show, and he referred to a match that happened "this past Wednesday night." In reality, the match took place earlier the same night.
7 years in the making since that incident. And now these two are facing off once more. This segment was perfect between the two and just insane on the mic.

Didn't think it would be good initially, but MJF is killing it even as a babyface and I love watching it. He's a perfect "antiface", as I call it (or "tweener", but I dislike that term). I'm getting strong "Stone Cold meets Ric Flair" vibes from him. You know he's an absolute student of wrestling. If someone can be just as good of a babyface as they were a heel, then you KNOW that person has a special talent.
