The biggest Epiphany I had when it came to dog training was this whole time I've been hammering words AT my dog when the whole time I should have been talking to him. It was one day when I was frustrated and I just said "what is it that I'm not getting"as if he was going to tell me. It was out of frustration and in a firm tone. I was really talking to him though. He didn't have the full version of me because I was distracted by all this education that I'm trying to gain on the subject of dogs and training and trying to be perfect. The response that he gave me somehow made me realize exactly what it was. The rest of our walk home that day was the most perfect. It's one of those things that you know and you can repeat it to others but when it actually sinks in....
Awesome, awesome! I like your videos and your way of teaching so much. So glad I found you here on YT. I have my very first dog / puppy and first fell into the 'positiv only' trap. It's nice in the beginning, but you can't get really far with that. You are friendly and patient with the dogs but also give them consequences. I now ditched all the PO material and learn much from you. Danke Robert! I think my dog would also thank you if she could 😅
Hi Robert, I have been watching your videos for quite some time now. I started training our almost 2 year old Shiba Inu, Toby. We had adopted him in November 2022, but our family dynamic changed when our dad passed away, which affected him as well as my siblings and I. We had tried 3 trainers with him to try to help but we ended up back at square one with him, with just little improvement in his behavior. So I have took the initiative to try training him myself. I like your approach and wish we had trainers in PA like you. I am going to try these training exercises and be consistent and patient with him. Thank you.
I have a giant schnauzer, he's almost 2 years old. Rowdy, dominant, driven, super strong and tons of fun! I've watched all kinds of training videos, but Cabrals have easily been the most helpful! We take nice loose leash walks and have almost completely eliminated reactivity. The final problem to solve is passing by someone coming towards us on a hiking trail. That's still a tough one. I'm hoping my wife got me a training membership and hoodie for Christmas!
That's what I'm saying. These dogs are very challenging, but Cabrals methods are highly with them. That sucks that you have to deal with bad owners. I would never even consider taking mine to dog parks, and I tell people no if they ask for meet and greets! For some of us, rowdy, dominant, high energy dogs are some of the traits we like, we just have to be courteous and responsible out in public. Following Cabrals training helps us do that.
@murphyebass7837 they aren't horrible dogs. They are very intelligent, high energy. As you said its the owners. I don't pretend to be the best dog trainer, but my latest at 7 months has learnt a lot, walks fairly loose leash but is easily distracted. We are working on that. Having g gad a variety of breeds, I'd say GS are one of the breeds you have to put the mist work into.
hi if you can please. can you help me with a adult male pug i recently adopted. hes marking like crazy. im doing crate training along with keeping him by my side at all times with a leash when inside the house. my biggest problem is on all the walks we do, he is not emptying his bladder. he keeps trickling like hes marking everything outside instead of peeing. worries me because even after a 10-15 min walk he still able to mark spots so i know hes not emptying his bladder.

Rowdy and dominant aren’t good traits. Horrible dogs. Only ones I’ve come into contact in the park are looking to fight with other dogs. Bad owners.

Good tip about the quick timing & it isn’t a hard no. Thanks also, Robert!
You bet!
Great tip regarding repetition, distinction
on how to reinforce wanted behavior vs creating a pattern of something
unwanted.

Have you taken him to a vet to make sure it isnt a bladder problem? Pugs are prone to uti
